Good for you Dot. I think you are wise to check this out. My daughters have stayed away from Keto because they have trouble with dairy and feel that a lot of Keto recipes are dairy heavy. It would be nice to see some delicious dairy free options that you enjoy. Also curious about the spices. Thanks for your honesty and hope this helps some of your health challenges.

Dot, have you read the Plant Paradox by Steven Gundry? It addresses all these concerns. It is called plant paradox because there are certain veggies you should not eat, they cause an inflammation response. His next book the Longevity Paradox comes out in March. Highly worth reading on caring for your body.

Hi Dot - I love that you’re willing to try new diets, especially to find the right one for you. Dairy is a huge inflammatory for me. I know when I cut it out of my diet, my arthritis pain goes away in 3 days! I just have a hard time getting enough calcium without it.

Hello, Dot. I wanted to jot a note to say how much I appreciate you doing the food challenges. The carnivore challenge was SO helpful for me! While I have decided not to do full on carnivore, it helped me realize I can eat more meat which keeps me filled up and less likely to crave carbs. Since the challenge I know now that I want to do a part keto/part carnivore diet by eating *mostly* meat and greens (salad greens, as well as all the others). I also love eating eggs every other day or so. Your challenges helps me tweak my diet to better understand what works for me. Definitely low low low carbs and less dairy, including cheese! Thank you so much! :-)

  • @karapendleton2257
    @karapendleton2257 Před 5 lety +2

Looking forward to what you share of your journey. Sounds similar to how I eat for medical reasons, except after years of tweaking I am not following any of them strictly, but use recipes from each to serve what I have discovered about my own needs.
I also use whole 30, vegetarian, and vegan recipes in addition to round out my diet and meet my particular needs.
Examples: Avoiding nightshades has helped combat inflammation. I can eat cheese, butter/ghee, and cream cheese, but other dairy products are problematic. Some nuts and seeds are okay for me, but others give me trouble. I avoid sugars and grains, using natural sweetener and flour subsitutes. Fruit is ok, but only in moderation. The list goes on.
The bottom line is that I found what helps me and tweak as necessary. Despite multiple medical issues I am on no prescription meds, due to my natural approach, which includes exercise, stress reduction, physical therapy, and addressing sleep issues. I may need to add some scrips down the road, but for now I do well without any and have for multiple years. This may not work for everyone, but it has changed my life.
Hang in there and good luck with your experiment. Ultimately, don't worry about anyone else's "rules," just keep tweaking until you find what works for you.
I'm rooting for you! Thanks so much for all you do to help others and make this channel one if my favorites.

I agree with you on meat, but I'm also interested in other foods. This version of paleo seems like a good experiment. The paleo version I'll be eating does not skimp at all on meat-based protein, and it's also a keto version -- meaning between meals, there will be periods of low+ ketosis. Or so we hope. Cheers.

Well, people have been Sustainably Vegans/Vegetarians for decades...they choose to elim. a food group. Period. My gluten free friend has to make the decision to eliminate gluten from her diet. I completely agree! Of course diets don’t work. There need to be lifestyle changes. What works is whatever one is willing to give up to lose or maintain weight. It’s not a one size fits all prescription. For me carbs cause me to be hungry, eat more and gain weight. I choose to limit them.

I have been on Keto for over a year! I used to count all the macros and calories and documented everything. I lost less than 10 lbs. i have still been doing Keto, but not counting anything. Still no more weight loss. I am 69 and 175 lbs, 5’2”, female! I am totally sugar free, grain free, small serving of berries once a week. I am thinking i should do the no dairy! Just hate that thought.

You need to get your thyroid chececked out if you are not losing any weight while being on this diet and also check any overgrowth of yeast. Yeast infections will keep you from losing weight even if you are doing low carb.

There's some evidence that lowering the fat content, along with carbs (of course) but keeping protein stable can help. I'm still looking into it.

Thanks for sharing! Congrats on coming back to keto. You may want to reduce the meat intake to reduce your inflammation issues and consider intermittent fasting as well. Reducing the number of meals you have in a day will support inflammation reduction. I have been doing keto for seven years. I like the mental clarity and high energy. I have a basic list of items delivered from Whole Foods twice a month. I enjoy a plant-based keto lifestyle along with 18:6 intermittent fasting daily. I have two well balanced meals daily over six hours. I avoid fruits except berries, starches, grains, corn, sugar, soy and processed foods. I have a list of healthy whole food staples but I will divert occasionally. I keep it simple so I do not have to over think it due to my busy schedule. Keep sharing and talking. Cheers!

Plant-based -- fascinating :) There's a need in the community for a plant-based keto youtuber I'd think. It's not what I'm personally into, but I do know there's at least 1 follower of this channel who doesn't eat meat (and now you). Something to consider. It's fun :)

dot i know this is a " testing platform" for you, to see what will help you heal... but im wondering ..if this isnt "confusing" your body and it doesnt know what to do ...since you "switch over" to different ways of eating....and its stalling ,,,,cause it doesnt know what to do....i get " the process of elemination" to get to the "root" of the problem and work through it....but maybe .. since you just went from carnivore straight into paleo/keto...and eleminating dairy s and poultrys... seems like 1 swing to a another ..id just say... put that book away...and go slow and easy.. and write down what you eat and LISTEN to your body... and feel and think of what your bodys telling you...what did you eat the day before?.... to make you feel the way you do the next day.....then try that same meal again without something and see how you feel the next day.. once you get that down... and feel decent.. keep the same food and add 1 thing.... see how you feel the next day....aka the process of elemination....just like dogs who have allergies..... take away their normal diet.. feed them chicken with rice for a week.. slowly add something to see if their is a reaction...same thing..if there is a reaction......start from the chicken and rice again try something diff again....1 thing at a time...slow and steady wins the race;];];];] if carnivore works only for hubbs.. then let him do what he needs ;];];];] we all get caught up in " the next new/ best/ review " hype" that we tend to follow the crowd..... well what works for the gander doesnt always work for the goose;];];];] LISTEN TO YOUR OWN BODY;];];];];] 1 step at a time;];];];];] huggs good luck;];];] stay positive;];];];]

Appreciate the support. But consider that every time someone has something different for dinner or lunch or breakfast, they'd be in jeopardy of confusing their body (by that token). What I'm doing is trying something very for one month. Then trying something for another month that's actually quite similar. Had I not tried Keto for a month years ago, I'd still be 325 pounds. Yes, I've gained a little back, but I've kept most off. Here's some body confusion for you: going into premature menopause and trying to maintain weight, let alone lose it. Lots of confusion :) Cheers.
