      Same. I'm 44 and beginning menopause, and I always thought these symptoms were normal PMS and that PMDD is very rare and extreme. Literally this week, I'm beginning to wonder if I have PMDD because of the way my moods swing. I can feel my mood change from happy to su!c!d@l within a few hours. John Myers low serotonin levels cause the depression but they don’t know how this links to the menstrual cycle and they can’t explain the other severe symptoms. Also treatment isn’t effective as many women with PMDD don’t suit the contraceptive pill or antidepressants ect

      Yes, please yes. Do more research, develop more treatments, that would make the lives of me and so many other people infinately better. While I'm waiting though, I'm going to use what knowledge and treatments we have currently available, cus I can't just wait for something better.

    • @johnmeyers6703
      @johnmeyers6703 Před 5 lety +9

      RoseCcy, no, low serotonin levels don't just cause depression. I'm fact most issues and symptoms are directly linked, including physical ailments. Maybe you should do your research. The woman speaking in the video said that she basically dropped all medications (due to side effects) but the only meds she said she dropped was only hormone based birth control, which is not the only option.
      For a person that makes themselves out to sound smart, consider next time that mental illness and hormone levels can cause a wide variety of health problems, especially physical health problems such a brain damage and internal organ failure. Pms already causes problems to begin with but Pmdd screws with body nearly 4 times as much as pms. Even the digestive system takes a beating with pmdd.

    Wow finally. I have PMDD and have been vigorously searching for videos and content about PMDD, yet they're almost impossible to come by. It's a condition that is most definitely not exposed enough in the media (and I understand because it only affects about 3% of women), but needs to be. I was seriously convinced that I was bipolar or simply mentally insane (extreme, unprovoked depression, migraines, cramps, anxiety, and all of the above). Even when it is discussed, people simply say it's just "really bad pms" which I feel undermines the severity of it. It's commonly misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder in women because it's so hard to recognize. I have been suffering for 4 years unknown until just a month ago. Thank you for this topic.

    I have Pmdd and I am the opposite when it comes to distractions. I cant be around people because it triggers it. I am happier and better when I am at home in my own space. Cleaning my house without people home is the best. It recently caused me to have a mental breakdown at work and I had to leave. I was out of work for about a day and a half. Cleaned my house, cuddled with my animals, and watched my favorite TV shows. Felt like a normal human being after. Its different for everyone but it still sucks either way.

Knowing this is what I have is half the battle and has improved things, but I still struggle. Reducing inflammation and staying healthy seems to be the best option, since hormonal birth control can actually worsen some people's pmdd.

      When I’m experiencing PMDD I’ve noticed the best thing for me to do is shut up. Shut up shut up shut up. I get reeeallll quiet those 3-5 days. BF makes me angry I do not react (when it’s over I realize I don’t even know why that made me mad) get a text from a superior that pisses me off, (I change the topic. Later I realize it wasn’t even that bad). Someone texts me hey you there (my anxiety tells me something terrible has gone wrong, I force myself to respond with a normal hi). Someone says something that offends me (I don’t defend myself because the viciousness I would release in retaliation would be beyond all bounds and a totally disproportionate response. Usually when real me comes back I realize it wasn’t even worth getting angry about.) it’s so hard though. And the worse part is it comes around again the next month.

      It's the Progesterone levels that you need to monitor. As soon as the period starts you should feel a release, call that day 1..Keep any intake of such as chocolate /sweet stuff, alcohol and salts away as this is what the cravings make you reach for and that just feeds the rising leves of Progesteron ready for the next "boxing match" !..
      Replace the crave's with 3hrly snacks ( plus handbag supply to stop u grabbing chocolate etc on the go! ) with such as crackers to counter the negative sugar binges which are the wrong type of sugars and and make sure to balance with proper meals.. Keep to this regime so as to stop your blood sugar levels from hitting the base line which in turn decreases energy pushing you towards the crave type foods which aggravates the rising leves of Progesterone which causes the mood problems we dread. Be sure to keep a daily routine!..
      By boxing clever this time, the peak's and trough's of Progesterone levels will be more manageable..

    As a long term PMDD sufferer I am thrilled to see this condition being spoken about. We definitely need more awareness brought to it. I highly recommend anyone who thinks they have PMDD both seeing their doctor and addressing their diet. Dairy was a big influence in making my PMDD much worse and now I've almost completely ditched it, it got better almost right away. (Even if you're getting the 'non hormonal' kind it's still full of natural hormones that may make things much worse.) The pill never worked for me either (in short, I had severe physical and mental symptoms as a result of taking it). I've also suffered with extremely painful periods and PCOS. I feel it's super important to be supportive of PMDD sufferers. Rolling with the punches is a lovely concept but some women suffer so much that they can't do that and they should be supported and not looked at like they're weak, making excuses or not trying hard enough. We need way more understanding, patience and sympathy toward PMDD sufferers. It's a condition that ruined a good portion of my life and at times, still does. Thankfully I've reached a point where mine is more manageable than it used to be but like I said, it's okay if some days you can't push yourself to go out, be around people, etc.

      banana milk, well pmdd actually effects you a week to 10 days before. Had this video been more informative you'd have known this. Also, she fails to even mention that there's other treatments besides hormone based birth control. A proper doctor will send you to see a therapist or a doctor who specializes in mental illness before ever accepting you had pmdd in search of anxiety and depression disorders that can cause the same symptoms, again something she fails to do, slightly (she did mention she was doing therapy). Pmdd is based on serotonin levels, which are be combated by taking birth control pills or take serotonin based medication. Yes, diet and exercise are a way to help fight against pmdd it's not a end-all-be-all treatment like she makes it out to be.
      She was very enlightening to those that may suffer from pmdd but she's not a great spokesperson for this illness and will confuse more than she helps. Had they had someone here that actually specializes in this field to collaborate with her, then this episode might hold water.

While clinical trials and research is being done there is too much focus on it being a psychological disease. He is a gynecologist who studied cervical pre-cancer conditions in women and found a link between inflammation of the uterine or cervical tissue due to microbial or viral infection to be the root issue of PMDD. The estrogen and histmaine overload causes inflammation and hence reacts with her hormones causing PMDD. Some womens' bodies are extra sensitive to histamines and the effects are toxic. Research estrogen dominance, inflammation, histamines, PMDD. These are all related back to inflammation in the body just as Dr. Lolas suggests. There is one common underlying thread with all these conditions and the remedies, supplements, diet that is suggested helps with all of these above stated conditions. Adding to the chorus - thank you so much for coming forward and making this condition known! I've dealt with this for 15+ years. And it so hard for people to understand. I've been on antidepressant for a decade and it truly helps me. The highs and lows were too much. Also, you are so right - eating healthy and exercise make a huge difference immediately. If you have pmdd and need support (you know, cuz half the time it makes you feel crazy) there are lots of wonderful groups online. I'm on a facebook group and they are amazing. Its like group therapy. Good luck to anyone struggling. There is hope. It gets better. And you can do it!

    I was diagnosed with PMDD last August, I’m so glad you all made a video about this. They diagnosed me with bipolar first and then had me track my symptoms every cycle and finally narrowed it down to PMDD. So glad to know there are more people out their with this to be able to discuss it.

    I’m so glad you made this video. I got diagnosed with it when I was 20 after nearly 7 years of dealing with it. I remember thinking I was such a weak person because I couldn’t deal with simple problems or life events without getting extremely depressed during the two weeks leading up to my period. I felt completely hopeless and suicidal because I was trapped in this cycle where I couldn’t even enjoy the times when it wasn’t affecting me because I knew the almost psychotic depression was coming up. When I started birth control (Sprintec) I felt like my entire world changed. I was suddenly able to focus on things, i was able to hold onto friendships, I would remain interested in my classes and I wouldn’t have to take my bathroom breaks at work to cry for a minute or two. I’m now on birth control continuously, and I look back on how my life used to be and I can’t believe I’m the same person. This can be SUCH a treatable disease (not just by birth control), so raising awareness and helping people who suffer from it is so important.

    This hits home for me! I have had PMDD for about 10 years. I tried so many birth control options like Yaz and a few others. Yaz was recalled after I started taking it but it helped me a lot. That depressed me for a while. Now I can only take non-hormonal birth control. The only thing that helped me, truly though, was having my son. Something about having him changed me. I don't know if it corrected a hormone problem or just keeps my mind occupied, but it helped me. Keep being strong, Augusta! I can't promise it gets easier but you're only getting stronger 💪😊

      I hope both of you reply because I might be going through this same thing. Why can you not take hormonal birth control anymore? • @proudmommytoowenandmilo2294
      @proudmommytoowenandmilo2294 Před 5 lety +2

      Maria Diaz The hormonal birth controls for me, didn't do what I needed. I needed it to regulate my period and help keep my mood a little more reasonable. None of the options worked as well as Yaz for me. I don't know a scientific reason necessarily but I will recommend that you keep track of your symptoms and then take them to your OB/GYN. I wrote all of mine down for 3 months then went to the Dr. I think it took a lot of the confusion out of diagnosing because I had the pattern to show my Dr. Good luck to you! 😊

    I think I might have this... While I'm not a very irritable or angry person in general, I have noticed that the last week or week and a half leading up to my period I experience a deep wave of depression and a lot of anxiety. I cry at least 2-3 times leading up to the day of my period, and I'm very sensitive to anything emotional. Yesterday I say that Winnie the Pooh movie and I swear I was on the brink of tears the entire movie even the happy moments. But at the same time I was crying because those happy moments made me think of horrible sad things. In addition to all that i get super anxious and stressed and overwhelmed and I feel out of control and I basically go through an existential crisis every month I feel like I'm worthless and lonely and broken and lost and like I'm going to float away into nothing and my life will be meaningless. And then my period starts and it all goes away....

    My PMDD is currently kicking in, and I'm crying watching this :_( sometimes this so called evil friend also brings up the idea of ending life. And at that time when it gets to that point, I am just crawling in bed for almosttttt the whole week, not talking to anyone, even though I live with my family. They're very traditional and they wouldn't understand the situation, no matter how much the effort I put in to explain it to them. And what makes it even worse is that, the fact that they're sooooooooo religious, they often give the "it's the sign that you should get closer to God" advice which doesn't help / change anything at all. Looking back at my journal that I wrote during this PMDD moments in the past 2 years, it's always about the suicide notes that I address to everyone around me. And eventhough I know that this now has been becoming part of me, I still yet write down those notes. Not only that tho, there's one time that my PMDD arrives at the unanticipated time. It took control over me, and I almost broke up with my boyfriend -that I am so fond of, at his final day in town (we're in a cross-continental long distance relationship). At that time where we should've been creating more of good memories, i initiated to break up with him, because everything that can actually be solvable seem to be very difficult, and it felt like as if we were in a dead-end. We cried all night that time, and the next morning, we tried to talk again. He asked me if it was me bringing up the idea to break up or the PMDD (days before that happened, I kept on complaining on the pre menstrual symptoms to my boyfriend).

    My PMS is very severe & my menstruation is even worst in excruciation.
    I so relate to the sense of asking ourselves, is this how I would be without my pms ??? or even without my menstruation.
    And it mindboggles me how extremely fatigued - like not tired nor exhausted but fatigued down. I would get.
    And recent months have been in this uncertainty of whether my hormones are creating growing pains or if I genuinely am getting worser symptoms of soreness in breasts & nipples very few months back etc like it's bizarre & I love videos like these · complete eye & mind opener.
    I did self diagnosis (lol) with such exact & precise symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea (extreme menstrual pains without an underlying condition). And overall is just such a timess to take care of ourselves, especially, and be watchful of ourselves too. ❤
