    Jinno, with the way you talked and described the bike, I thought you were American! Americans would classify the Meteor 350 as just a beginner's bike, because our motorcycle market is so skewed here; only in America would an 1100cc cruiser be seen as a middle weight bike.
    That brings me to point #1: this bike isn't just for beginners; many of us experienced and/or returning riders like this bike too. I've had 11-12 bikes prior to owning the Meteor (same Fireball Yellow in the vid, BTW!), including a 1999 Kawasaki ZRX1100. Even so, I LOVE the RE Meteor 350! I'll be 60 in February, so I don't need to go fast anymore; I've been there, done that, and lived to tell about it. Since the vast majority of my rides are 1-2 hours on local back roads or along the river, I don't need anything bigger or more powerful. Also, at my age, I was looking for something that was lighter, easier to manage, economical, and fun. Since I'm retired, I have to pay attention to how much something costs me, and the Meteor costs me very little. So, the Meteor 350 isn't just a beginner's bike; older, more experienced riders like it too. Just like older people downsize their houses, they also downsize their bikes.
    My second point is that I think the Meteor 350 looks just fine with the mag wheels, since they go better with the late 1970s-early 1980s aesthetic RE were going for with this bike. Spoked wheels just wouldn't go with this bike, since they'd largely disappeared from motorcycles after the mid 1970s. Therefore, in terms of style, the mag wheels are perfect for this bike. They also allow tubeless tires, which are easier to live with.
    Having said that, I think that Royal Enfield's 650 twins (i.e. the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT) look GREAT with spoked wheels! The new, RE Classic 350 looks good with spoked wheels too. Why? Because they're appropriate for the styles of the two bikes. The 650s are clearly paying homage to the 1960s, while the Classic 350 is going for the late 1940s-early and mid 1950s look; since the vast majority of motorcycles during those periods had spokes, I think that they "match" both the 650 twins and the Classic 350.
    Three, that's interesting that Luzon has a 400cc rule for the expressway. While I can understand the thought behind it, I think it's a bit inflexible. I think that, for short distances, the Meteor 350 can handle an expressway; I'd have no problem riding mine on the expressway for a short distance. If I had to either bypass a traffic jam, or if I wanted to bypass a bad area, I'd hop on the expressway for a few kilometers, and the Meteor would be all right. That said, the Meteor isn't designed with them in mind, so it wouldn't be a good bike to take on the expressway for more than a short stretch, and you'd be in the slow lane the whole time. But yeah, the Meteor is capable of doing short stints on the expressway.
    Finally, I have to come back to the subject of beginner bikes. Again, if you hadn't TOLD me you were Filipino, I NEVER would've guessed! Back when I was a kid, the original Honda CB750 was considered a big bike, and the Harley-Davidson Sportster was considered HUGE! When I was younger, people started out on small bikes, like a 90-125cc; that was a beginner's bike. Then, you'd move up to a 250, a 500, then you'd get a big bike. We'd never consider a 650 as a beginner bike-never! Even though Royal Enfield's 650 twins aren't the biggest, most powerful bikes out there, they're powerful enough; someone who'd just passed their MSF class could get in to plenty trouble on RE's 650s. Here's an article that sums up my thoughts. WRT first bikes: www.chuckhawks.com/good_first_motorcycles.htm
    In closing, even though I'm an experienced rider, I like the Meteor 350; it's a cool looking bike that does everything I need a bike to do, and it does so at a reasonable cost. It's not just a beginner bike. I think that the mag wheels are perfect for it, since it has more of a late 1970s-early 1980s aesthetic; spoke wheels would look totally out of place on the Meteor 350. They have their place, but not on this bike. Those are my thoughts. Thank you!

      Same here in middle Europe, people looking strange if you tell them you've just bought a 350cc Cycle with 20 hp. Though I'm only 33 years old, I don't care. Motorcycling is not a hobbie, but a passion for me. And the Meteor 350 is just what I was looking for the last 14 years since I've made my license and began with a '74 Jawa 350. And for me, it's a beautiful motorcycle, especially in yellow. That's why I've bought it. As a useful extension for my 110cc Honda and 135cc Yamaha. All the bigger bikes (Bonneville T100, Honda NC750, CB500) have gone long time ago, the small ones are here to stay.

      @@FirstAid1 I like how you think! I wish that I'd wised up when I was your age. If my finances permit, I'd like to get the Classic 350 when it comes to the US next year... 😄

    • @FirstAid1
      @FirstAid1 Před 2 lety

      @@markymarknj Hi Mark, yeah the new Classic is lovely, more as the old one I think (especially the old rear light was just looking, politely said, weird) I was really thinking about waiting for it too, but I saw an indian camparison video (Meteor vs classic, czcams.com/video/8xwFfMX9D8M/video.html&ab_channel=BikeWale ) and it seems the comfort and ergonomics seem a little better with the Meteor, which is a big point for me, as I'm 6" 2'. In the end I guess, it's just a matter of personal taste, as the two bikes are practically identic when it comes to technical specs. The only two things I'm missing on the Meteor are a kick starter and a fully capsuled chain drive that prevents the chain from getting dirty and make it last a lot longer. Would've been a nice feature not only for indian roads.

    • @michaeljohnson2922
      @michaeljohnson2922 Před 2 lety +1

      400 pound bike on 20 horse power makes this model the worst power to weight ratio in its class. It has zero top end. It looks cool, probably feels pretty cool but all motorcycles need to go 65/70 at a minimum. How fast does this bike go comfortably?

    • @FirstAid1
      @FirstAid1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@michaeljohnson2922 To each their own and I guess it's a decision everybody has to make for himself. Nobody has to buy a motorcycle he doesn't like, but I'm happy about the fact RE is offering the Meteor in my country. Personally I'm not interested in the top speed any more. When I ride, I'm not in a hurry and I take my time. After many motorcycles I've driven in the last 15 years, the Meteor ist one of the slowest but also one of the easiest in handling and the most comfortable stock bike. I don't regret buying it.

      @Constant State Of Flux Royal Enfield Meteor is not my first bike. Before, I had a Honda CBR 250 and a Kawasaki 500. I appreciate my Enfield very much. It has a very comfortable riding position, a motor with a good low end torque and it`s fun to ride it. I live in Germany and most people ride bikes with much more power. If you buy this bike and you think, that you can make a trip with those guys, who have bikes with 50 - 100 Horsepower, you can forget it, because you are to slow, You haven`t enough power to overtake. So you can come into dangerous situations, when you try to follow the other guys. You need companions who like to ride slow, between 70 and 90 km/h. It`s a phantastic motorcycle, but only for riders, who take their time.

    Here in China, motorcycles are not allowed on the expressway at all. Doesn't matter if it's 400cc or 1200cc. China, for some reason, doesn't want motorcycles on the extressways. Which for me is fine because if you riding the expressway you are missing out on the amazing views.

    The manual expressly says to let the motor run for two minutes before reving the rpm's. That will ensure all moving engine parts are properly lubricated. You instantly reved the engine upon starting the bike. Maybe next time spend a little time reading what the manufacturer has to say.

  • @kshred3043

    Thanks for the really helpful review. However, I am confused about something: At 4:08 you show that you can only get 'nearly flat foot', not flat footed, on the Meteor despite a seat height of only 754 mm. Actually, the standard seat height is specified at 765 mm but the 'low ride' seat (3:36) takes off 11 mm so 754 mm seems right on the money. What I don't understand is that despite a seat height of 804 mm, which is 50 mm (almost 2") taller than the Meteor, you could flat foot the Interceptor, eg: at 2:58, in your also excellent review of the Interceptor 650 (czcams.com/video/cT1rBp6KlaM/video.html).
    What's up with that ? Has it got something to do with the widths of the respective seats?
    I am a couple of inches shorter than you and, sadly, I had to rule out the Interceptor because it is too tall. So I am quite concerned if the Meteor will work for me. Otherwise, the Meteor seems perfect. I haven't had a chance sit on one yet since the local dealer is out of stock. And I don't want to put down a deposit on one in case the seat height issue makes it a no go.

    Kind of ironic from my perspective that you can’t take it on the highway. Here in the US I ride my 250 Suzuki on the Interstate highways on a regular basis! As far as I know, anything over 150ccs is allowed on any road here.

    I recently put a DJ payment on a new Meteor (USA) but next day I backed out. Why?
    1. No tachometer
    2. The goofy heel toe shifter
    3. Don't need that huge gas tank
    4. Poor mirrors.
    It's a good looking bike, but a cruiser style- where I've always owned UJM flat seat bikes. I don't care for radiators in bikes either.... one more thing to mess with.

    • @adventuresofdragonfly2231
      @adventuresofdragonfly2231 Před 2 lety +3

      I think the mirrors are just right, they don't vibrate and I can see all behind me clearly. Also I never had a toe shifter before being a Harley rider most of my life but I have to say it took me about an hour to get use to it and now I love it. Oh and there is no radiator on this bike it is air and oil cooled.

      Dapat ang babaan nila, palitan ang regulation sa expressway, kahit to 300 or 350 man lang. Di ko nga alam ang basis bat 400cc and up lang pwede. Bale walang pake ang RE sa walang kwentang batas natin
