    Great video, Jack. I have a roughly 1,200 sq/ft single story, rectangular, rental property with a single U6 LR access point centrally located in the attic. Several of the bedrooms on the far end of the house still get very weak 5Ghz signal. I've tuned all of the settings on the AP to limit congestion and maximize signal strength. I was considering adding another access point. Do you think that would be overkill?

    Yeh just wait till you do houses in Scotland with walls 2 feet thick made of solid stone. Oh how I wish we had thin walls made of nothing 😂 Funny vid very enjoyable.

      Haha yeah came to say this. My brick and mortar solid wall in the Midlands is better than my mum's three foot granite wall in Cornwall, but still a challenge at times! Have to get creative with the placements.
      Oh, and fireplaces 😔.
      Then again, guess our English houses (and probably your scottish ones) are tiny compared to the average US home using unifi.

    Nice video but about those channels you talked about. I have a 3200sqft home 2 story. I have a netgear night hawk router with wifi. And I have recently bought 3 Netgear WAX214’s. I understand the overlapping channel crosstalk. But what channels do I need to be on? Are there certain ones or as long as its different it doesn’t matter? And do I need to disable the wifi on the main router? I plan to space the AP’s evenly throughout the home so Im sure some overlapping will be there. Thanks

    • @MillerTechnicalServices
      @MillerTechnicalServices  Před 2 lety +1

      There really aren’t any specific channels. You can do a sweep with your phone if you download an app to see what channels are congested so you can avoid those.

    Any suggestion around how far they should be from each other and not exactly on top of each other on both floor to avoid overlapping or interference or does this even matter in a two story house?

    • @MillerTechnicalServices
      @MillerTechnicalServices  Před 2 lety +2

      I have ap upstairs in the attic near one side of the house and the other ap downstairs on the opposite end. That’s what works for my house. You just don’t want much overlap but it’s not the end of the world if you do. I recommend grabbing some long Ethernet cable and just messing around with the placement and seeing what works for you before you run your installation cables or settle on final placement.

    I want to emphasize the HUUUUUGE difference between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz! So, what works for general public, may not work for others. For example, I have over 48 neighbors' signals on one side of my house on the 2.4Ghz rendering channel over 97% used. I could have phone right next to AP and not even make initial connection-much less getting internet. This forced me to go 98% 5Ghz. Only have 4-5 items on ok side of house using 2.4GHZ. Due to this, I had to use four APs. 2 outdoor for front and back yards. 2 inside house. This is because 5GHZ is such lower range. But now get full internet speed in every square foot of my property!
