In this video, we are Stage 5 of the Santos Tour Down Under, however, this is what the tourists are doing pre-road race. Adelaide's most famous Saturday bunch ride. I take the BMC Teammachine to one of the fastest and hardest bunch rides I have ever done. The SASI swap off. I also share some scenes from the Tour Down Under so far and provide an overview of this famous bunch ride.

Looks like a dynamite pace ride Cam. The Victoria road loop is such a good stretch, and it's great when you get onto the esplanade road for that cool breeze and sea views!

We rotate on the inside along there in our bunch. A Tuesday night ride leaving Norwood is similar but made 75% of that pace.

Very fast ride! I would like to hear your opinion: i have to bike options to buy: tarmac sl6 rim brakes full ultegra group vs tarmac sl6 disc brakes 105 full group. The ultegra option is cheaper. I just can decide what i do.
Fyi: i have a scott addict team issue dura ace and i will not sell it. It is one more bike to this bike addict.
If the Scott is Rim, go the Disc version so you've got the best of both worlds. Cam

Check strava, plenty of riders had power meters on. Being flat it wasn't too bad, seems like about 300ish would get you around.
If you can't ride for into a moderate headwind at 35kmh for 30m then you need more power for that ride.
for melbourne visitors it's more comparable to NRR Long 5.45am Wednesday, in terms of discipline and turns, less so the f*ing hell ride

I'm a former local. I wouldn't call this an "open" bunch ride. You need a good reputation before being "invited/allowed" to this particular ride. But that's not to say the people in the bunch are snobs. They're all wonderful guys/girls. It's just a ride intended for elite A-Graders, etc.
Nice work rolling through the stop signs at 3.44. FFS gives car drivers even more ammunition to use against us. And you claim the bunch had good etiquette????
As long as the bunch had a good ride and a giggle at some twat in horrible kit , who cares about other road users? This is why we are going to be hated more every day 😡
So I have been through a level one road and track course in Australia ( Cycling Australia accreditation) to become a road cycling coach. The recommendation when approaching a stop sign with a large moving group of cyclists is to slow down at a stop sign. If the area is clear (no cars), continue pedalling through. This group was close to 50, so stopping at a stop sign when there is no traffic is more dangerous for the group than stopping / unclipping. Cam
@@CamNicholls It just looks bad. If lead riders make the call "stopping" appropriately and riders are paying attention and communicating back then it's easy to do it safely. We have a hard enough time on the roads behaving legally. Cheers.

At 3.45 ... A bit disappointing to see people riding straight through stop signs .. and you wonder why the general public complain
Its clear there are no cars, If there were other road users Im sure they would have yielded.

@@cannon1156 I personally see the cycling rage come from people jumping light and signs where there are other people actually trying to use them. Most people dont come to a full and complete stop and wait 3 seconds at a stop sign in a car when no other road users or pedestrians are present. I.e. rolling stop
@@TheTubaEmporer ..unfortunately there is no excuse for it except they are a bunch of clowns who think they are above the road rules. Trouble with riders who think they are so elite road rules do not apply to them. Same as the idiots on the Caluzzi ride in Sydney
