    I transferred the ownership, but my domain did not transfer to the new owner's account. How do you transfer it from your domain list to theirs?

      @launchthedamnthing  Před měsícem

      Great question! This process is ONLY for the website itself. Domains can be separate now that Squarespace bought Google Domains. So if you transferred ownership of the website to a client, that does not mean you've also transferred ownership of the domain because those are two different/separate subscriptions for Squarespace services (website hosting & domain hosting) -especially if you purchased it for them, because you own the domain if you purchased it. Kinda like if you rent an apartment & you're on the lease, you can't legally sublease it to someone else without talking to the owner of the building or whoever you leased it from; that's how domains work too. You can easily move domains from website to website or even from host to host, -yes. But you can't easily transfer ownership of a domain to someone else, bc you're the one that rented that domain/space on the internet & it's your payment details on file. The website transfer is different, because nothing's been paid for yet, so at least for our purposes as designers, we're transferring a design document basically, vs transferring a location on the internet. 😊
      ✅ If you paid for the domain but need to move it to your own website, you can totally do that by going wherever the domain lives in your Squarespace account & transferring it to the new website. That process is very quick (basically immediate) and easy. Use this Help article from Sqsp to do that: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205812098-Moving-a-Squarespace-domain-between-Squarespace-sites
      ✅ But if you bought it FOR a client, you can move it but you can't transfer ownership of it without some workarounds like getting the client to put in their payment details instead of yours so that when it renews it will charge them & not you, and then also update the Registrant details to reflect their business & not yours. OR let it expire (wait 30+ days after expiration) and then your client can buy it once it's available again. (There's typically a 30-90 day holding period after expiration just in case the original owner changes their mind., during which time it will not be available to other people, even though it's expired.) There may be other/more options, but those are the only 2 I'm aware of, so I'd reach out to Squarespace for more details if you need more than that, and ask them what to do in that situation. In this video I walk through how I contact Squarespace support to get a human: czcams.com/video/73cRnizJBLM/video.html

    Hello! Great video :) I had a question about the video editing...what program did you use? Premier Pro? iMovie? I really like your transitions. Thanks!

      Thanks! I use Final Cut Pro, and the transitions likely came from Motion Array or some other Final Cut Pro template shop. 😁

    this is SO helpful! thank you for walking through this! One question - I'll be transfering ownership to my client soon. I'll be replacing their old website with the new one I'm building - will this transfer to ownership work, or will I have to disable their current website first? Hope that makes sense. Thank you!

    • @launchthedamnthing
      @launchthedamnthing  Před měsícem

      Thank you, Laura! Each website has its own permissions & ownership (& billing) settings, within the Squarespace account. So yes, assuming you created the new website in your account (making you the owner), then you'll want to transfer ownership of the site to their account, which will make you the Admin by default. Same process, even though it's for the same company/client, and will belong in the same Sqsp account.
      If the site was started by the client first, however, then no you won't need to transfer ownership because it was created by them and that would mean they are the owner & you're most likely just an Admin, unless they gave you ownership of the website in their account for the duration of the project, but that's not typical.
      Once the ownership is sorted, then they'll pay for it with their billing info in their account as the website owner, and cancel the subscription to the old site after starting the new subscription for the new one & publishing the new site. Then you can move the domain; you can only move it to a published site.
      Hope that answers your question! 😁

    Hi! These are so helpful. What do you recommend if the client already has an existing Squarespace site? I've redesigned their website in my own account but my website trial has expired. Do I invite them as a contributor/owner to my site or should I ask them to invite me as a contributor to their existing site?

    • @launchthedamnthing
      @launchthedamnthing  Před 4 měsíci

      So glad it helped! If the trial expired while you’re still working on it, you can just contact SQSP on Live Chat to ask for an extension. Whether you’re a Circle member or not will dictate how long the extension is, but you can ask for one as many times as ya need to for client sites & keep designing until you’re done. 😁 Then just follow this transfer process like normal!

    Thank you for the video it's really helpful, But I have a question when I create my Squarespace account and pay for the subscription and create the web and transfer the ownership for the client who will pay the monthly subscription ? me or the client

    • @launchthedamnthing
      @launchthedamnthing  Před 3 měsíci

      You're welcome! I'm glad it helped. 😁 ALWAYS have the client pay for their own products. You never want to be on the hook for their subscription if they miss their due date, etc. When you transfer ownership to them, make sure they go to the Billing area to pick their plan, enter their payment details & make it live. (After they've finished paying your service fee for the project, etc.) 😃

    Do you walk them through how to transfer or register their domain name as well in your onboarding video?

    • @launchthedamnthing
      @launchthedamnthing  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Good question! I don't because that's not a customized video during onboarding (it's generic & meant to be viewed by all custom website clients). But also because most of my clients tend to be re-design projects, which means they already have a domain somewhere. In their homework (content guides) I ask them where their domain is & for the login so I can help them either connect or transfer it. Since their homework must be complete before the project starts, I typically have plenty of time to ask them questions or answer questions if we have any, then decide when this process should happen in order to launch on time, then I present them with whatever the options are and ask for their final decision.
      For example: if they want to transfer the domain to Squarespace so they can be billed for both the website & the domain in the same place, then we'll have to move the domain from the other company which means downtime for the current website for a few days, potentially. But if they want to keep it where it is, I can just connect it to the new website on Squarespace, and that's typically an immediate process, stabilizing within an hour most of the time.
      I've had clients say, "the current site is hideous, I don't care if you take it down now" (like daaaaays before launch day 😂) and I've had clients want to leave it up until launch day, and then take it down for whatever timeframe it takes to transfer or connect it afterward. I've also had clients buy a new domain through Squarespace, then connect or transfer the old one in as a secondary that redirects to the new one, or change the new one to redirect to the old one once moved.
      It's always a little different, so it's good to give yourself time to manage that! 😁 Hope that helps!

    What happens if the client doesn't have a squarespace account and I transfer ownership to them? Right now she logs in with no password and has no SS account. Can I transfer ownership or does she have to have an account first. I am afraid the website will go into limbo if I transfer ownership and she has no password or account with squarespace.

    • @launchthedamnthing
      @launchthedamnthing  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Good question, Steve! They will definitely need a free Squarespace account before you can actually transfer ownership. --If they don't have one yet, just ask them what email address they'll create their account with, then send an contributor invitation to that address. Once they accept that invitation, THEN you can transfer ownership to that 'contributor.' Don't worry, you literally can't transfer ownership to anyone that doesn't have a Squarespace account &/or someone who is not a contributor to that website FIRST. 😉 I hope that makes sense!

      @@launchthedamnthing Just 2 quick billing questions; I'll be able to assign the client ownership within the free trial, but she is a non-profit...
      1) how do we ensure she gets the discounts for charity and Circle?
      2) does the client see your (the designer's) billing credit card info etc, when they first log in as the new owner?

    • @launchthedamnthing
      @launchthedamnthing  Před 3 měsíci

      1) I'd ask Squarespace Support what they suggest for the non-profit related question! I've never worked with that niche so I'm not sure.
      2) No, on a free trial there's no billing information yet so nothing for them to see! Especially if you start with your own foundational template, like I start with my Starter Kit template; it's mostly blank but structure & some settings are preset to minimize redundant admin work, so because I started or duplicated that site I know it's blank & definitely on a free trial so no billing info would be in there yet. 😃 They would only see MY billing info if they had access to my own website, where the bill actually is. The cool thing about Sqsp is that each website within your account has its own billing, and that's why free trials don't show billing info, bc it's not tied to a subscription or a person's other subscriptions in their Sqsp account. Hope that makes sense! --Great questions!@@lexieslifetips177
