- Movie Class by PizzaFLIX: Unsatisfied with MGM’s first two Tarzan films, novelist Edgar Rice Burroughs decided not to renew his contract. Instead, he co-founded Burroughs-Tarzan Enterprises with Ashton Dearholt for the filming of THE NEW ADVENTURES OF TARZAN. He aimed to stay true to his novel’s portrayal of Tarzan as a cultured and well-educated gentleman, which he succeeded. Burroughs also sought greater financial returns, which he did not, and he was soon back with MGM.

Tarzan goes to Guatemala to find his lost friend, D'Arnot. On the way, he helps Major Matling search Mayan ruins for hidden jewels and an idol containing the formula for a powerful explosive. D'Arnot and the idol are rescued, but the idol falls into the clutches of the explorer Raglan.
TRIVIA: During the film’s production in Guatemala, producer Ashton Dearholt married the lead actress Ula Holt, and Burroughs broke up with his wife to marry Dearholt's ex-wife Florence Gilbert.
The best of this film is the state of the copy , looks as though it had ben shot yesterday and not 85 years ago

Johnny Weissmuller was by far the BEST Tarzan, bar none. He had a way with Cheetah! Hehehe I always enjoyed watching them on Saturdays.

I really enjoyed seeing the more articulate Tarzan.
I wonder if this was filmed in Belize, looking at the mix of indigenous people and french spoken. Not sure what other languages. The filming of the animals was superb considering what they used in those days. It is nice to hear the bird calls and chatter of animals....whoops just found out it was filmed in Guatenala..Tikal and Chichicastenango...lake atitlan...others... Wow what a journey w huge packs..

Edgar Rice Burroughs never really liked most of the Tarzan films but he did approve of this version for it most closely followed Tarzan's early life story in that he did rescue a French flyer that taught him to speak French and guided him to civilization where he inherited a vast estate and title. In later books Tarzan moved between the civilized world and the jungle.

The second half is exciting, the first half was terribly slow though. Elephants walking in circles, doing nothing. Plane flies over the jungle, camera looking at trees. If you know this was condensed from a 12 part serial, it's surprising how little action there is at the beginning, but as I said, it's getting better.
What a clean, crisp copy! I just can't get past the cheesy Tarzan yell, lolol. TY @PizzaFlix - some good sauce! It's also a GREAT documentary about the once-thriving herds of wildlife encountered on the plains of Africa 100 years ago. Point of Information: around the 30:00 mark, that is NOT what native Guatemalans looked like, and that is not what a native village on the river looked like lol.

It was a good movie and the fight scene good. Bruce Bennett fighting with the club is a classic. I like the machine gun in the box but how how it could have been working is a stretch but it doesn't matter it was good. Seems like you need that club at least going to any city today in the USA.

They say that cheetah lived to be about 80 years old. in the wild their lifespan is about 15 years in captivity about 30 years. I saw him in the late 80"s with his trainer He looked like an old man. He was about 6 feet tall. If I"m remembering correctly they gave him 2 shots of whiskey a day He would have liked to have more. He was also smoking a cigar. I wonder if that is why he lived so long.
In the opening credits they apologize for the quality due to the adverse conditions. Wasn't this filmed in Florida? Yet I suppose one jungle is just as dangerous as another.😊❤❤

You can see that the film making was technically difficult but casting a real Olympic competitor as Tarzan was a wise choice. My favourite is the 1942 version of Jungle Book with the brilliant actor Sabu.
@Petrazenka It shows a culture that Britain has not overcome at all of accepting wealthy, white and British as supreme. Some of these films show a little of reality how arrogant the British are mostly and how beautiful and different wildlife is.

In the original movie Jane was starkers in the underwater scene, hidin' nuthin'. Tarzan kept his Speedo's on tho'. That led to the Hayes Code which we live with today. Killin' is fine, nude swimming not. Amen.

Brix ( Bruce Bennett ) was Tarzan before Johnny the only reason Johnny became Tarzan was because Brix hurt himself and this is 1935. Brix also won a medal in the olympics.
