Making an Octant

I made my own octant. The octant is the precursor of the sextant used to determine latitudes; it is a navigation device. I describe briefly how to cut and fashion brass parts, and assemble them to a wooden frame to produce an octant; a little brass cutting, filing, sanding, brass riveting, and brass engraving.
I'll try to put together a web page with more detailed plans and instructions for those who want to make their own octant. I will probably have it up by 4th of July. Stay tuned.
