I made my own automaton magician.
I spent some time learning how to make wooden gears and cams. In the process I discovered how to move the arms and head on my creation. The red ball was a little trickier, as I did not find a way on the interweb. Since I made this video I have added a cape to my magician. He still has no pants.

I made my own octant. The octant is the precursor of the sextant used to determine latitudes; it is a navigation device.
