That explains why my goats won't stay out of my fire pit... Thanks.
they also eat different weeds to de-worm.
That wormer is also going into the meat and milk. Our animals thrived for centuries without drugs.
Exactly 💯
The char that passes through the cow is also excellent for restoring your pasture. Look into making biochar and using it. You'll get more bang for your buck than just burning slash piles.
Good video, and good information. So much of what our ancestors knew has been forgotten in our "science" kick of medicating everything.
The best immune systems stay as far away from meds as possible. Human, animals, everything. I know I rarely feel under the weather, but even when I do it has to be really bad before I take so much as a Tylenol.
Back last year I was at a mates place & we decided to burn a brush pile the previous owners had put together.
I went back a week later & my friend was amazed there wasn’t anything left. Normally there would always be some chunks of charcoal left over.
I remembered you saying that cows eat it so I explained it to him.
This is great information Josh. I was around livestock my entire youth and either never knew this or just forgot. Keep they livestock tips coming buddy.
Josh, you told me the video would be coming, and it did. Thanks bro! This makes perfect sense! I never gave this a thought, to be honest.
This is definitely great content!
Keep em coming!
Pumpkin works well as a warmer also.
Hey Josh keep up the good work we love your videos!!
Always good information, thanks Josh !
Hi....... Josh Stoney Ridge Farmer, thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐕🐖🐄🐐🐝🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing this information, Josh.
Had seen various farm animals rooting in burn pits but this is first time I found out why. Thanks.
Love this shared information..
Have a good evening ❄❄❄
Hi Josh, Hope BETTER Weather? Also that You and ALL of the CRITTERS are doing WELL! Y'ALL BE SAFE / WELL & WARM!
Interesting video, I didn't know this about charcoal. A great solution to wise health and range management for your cows.
Thank you Josh for this video. Good Luck!🇺🇸
You just taught me something new. Great vid. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experiences.
Hell yes!! Great tip. Thank you
Hey Josh thank you for that video now I know a little bit more about it and I think it's a great idea to thank you for the Nugget woo
Thank you for the video brother
another great video thanks
My dog ate some rat poison at a friends house and the vet pumped charcoal into him and he vomited all the poison and charcoal back up and saved him. Thank God I caught him eating it and was able to get him to the vet. Don't ever use rat/mouse poison if you have dogs, cats, etc because they can get secondary poisoning from eating the mouse, rat, etc.
Your vet probably told ya this...but odds are your dog would have been fine. According to my Vet and what I've read....the mouse/rat or vermin has to consume nearly it's body weight in poison to kill it. In that case..your dog may have had a bit of abnormally thin blood however the chances of it killing your dog are very very low simply because it has to consume so much of the poison to be effective. Most poisons contain a version of coumadin..a blood thinner that causes internal hemorrhage in the victim....still better safe than sorry...I agree with ya there for sure!
I have used hydrogen peroxide to get my dog to vomit when they’ve eaten poisonous things.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer, I'm sure you're right and thank you, but I just couldn't take a chance with my dog. He's a member of the family and way too important and loved. Thanks again Josh and thumbs up always !
@@augustreil Our vet suspected our 3-yr-old dog ate something that had consumed rat poison, when she was diagnosed with liver failure. 8 days of a slow death.
Yeeee howdy been a subscriber since your first video. Now I’m first to comment. For the first time in ages yeeee hugs to you and yours from me and mine x
This is great! I haven't looked much into charcoal, but like diatomaceous earth for all my critters. I feed 1 cup a day to my horses for 10 days, and 1 teaspoon a day to my dogs or cars. I've done fecal samples with the vet, before and after, and it worked! Great for tapeworms!
100% to all of this info. I've read that manure with chemical wormer can degrade pastures and hayfieds too. I'm curious to dry the charcoal method too now!
just gotta be careful with diatoms...if this is fed in a dry formula it can cause serious lung issues because it's so abrasive...be careful with that stuff when it's dusty
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I always mix it into wet feed 😉
I learned something! Never heard of this. Way cool!! Does it work on horses too?
You can also make charcoal or biochar and make it available to the cattle
Activated charcoal for humans is good for similar things too. It's good if you are having some stomach issues...
Josh I have slash piles as well the wild animals will also use them. I have seen bear/deer/cougar and believe it or not Bobcats in the slash piles after seeing this I walked over think maybe new growth of plants nope nothing growing they where picking through the wood ash. I thought there has to be something in the wood ash that they need or are missing in there diet.
Great information
Fantastic! 💯
I put it in the dust bath for my chickens..Great way to keep mites off.
Wow Josh...this is great....question: are you still keeping your nursing credentials current? just wondering...I work at a hospital..in this surge we are calling in nurses who have retired or selected another career...if their credentials have not expired.
yep I maintain my license for sure...but don't tell them to contact me lol....I'm working 60 hours a week on this place believe it or not
My dad always made sure the cows and pigs had plenty of bituminous coal to munch on! They ate it like candy! LOL!
Thanks for this! I don’t have cows 😭😭😭😭😭, but do have chickens. Now I’ll see what info is out there on feeding charcoal to a flock. It’s good to put ashes in the dust bath to kill lice. Maybe it correlates to worms, too.
Bio-char (charcoal) is also good for chickens.
@@jerrycallison6125 Thanks!!
Heard your name on Messicks, decided to check you out 👍
welcome to the channel my friend...Neil is a great guy...headed up to Messicks end of this month!
i guarantee you will get the richest grass growing around the downhill side of the charcoal pile.
We have been doing this for years. You can also put soap in there water or Food grade DE diatomaceous earth You can also use it for humans. It’s great for polishing and whiten your teeth with a little bit of coconut oil and diatomaceous earth with a couple of drops of peppermint or spearmint is good
DE is not bad for feas on cats Dogs or any animal prone with fleas and ticks.
@@WilliamHollinger2019 I have found that DE needs to be used in conjunction with powdered “Brewers Yeast”! I couldn’t get rid of all the fleas that descended upon our cats , after a new kitten came with them from Missouri last summer! DE is great, but it’s not working as great as BY is! Plus, you feed it AND put it on their fur as well!
Apparently fleas hate the smell, but I couldn’t smell anything! The fleas are gone but their coats are super shiny from feeding it! Just sprinkle it on or into their food!
Interesting.
This is great
That's interesting, I never considered the negative effect of defecated de-wormer would have upon soil worms
Curious if you're also using the wood ash as part of the pasture restoration, in re the soil acidity?
yes...to an extent...takes alot of ash to work on the soil...tons of it
We use charcoal in our chickens dust bath
Can you give more percise steps? Do i intentionaly make charkhol, or do I just partially burn a log?
Awesome thank you do you have chickens and pigs?
I have chickens...had pigs and will have again soon
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer thank you I have subbed and am binge watching thank you so much
What best wood to use for Chocoal
Check out Dr. Eric Berg's video on "parasite cleanse". Basically it's a natural remedy that involves black walnut hulls. If it's effective for humans I'm guessing it should also translate to cows.
I agree. I like to eat charcoal myself 👍🏻
We do this two times a year spring then fall you can have an out brake if you do not do this.
Our chickens love our ash pit when we burn vegetation on our farm
they also eat different weeds to de-worm. , charcoal absorbs poison too.
Cattle also dig up Clay and eat it for bloat
thanks I never knew about that. I would like to talk you
I've never heard of that before. Maybe I shouldn't cover this falls brush burn piles up with hay then
I've been taking hardwood activated charcoal for two years, the benefits are fantastic! No person or animal has a drug deficiency...nor land a pesticide deficiency...all the helps are in God's design! Great video!
Will this work for sheep?
Was hear.
Woooooo!
how do you fine out you need to worm
Depends upon the animal, also the terrain & climate. Deworming will need to be done anywhere from 3-9x a year.
Do they eat the charcoal off the wood?
yeppers
Natural ways are always best
Please talk about dogs when you can. I give my dog ivermectin once a month for heartworm prevention. Is charcoal a natural alternative for that?
you'll wanna consult your vet on that my friend
👍
My pitbull eats grass and left over barbecue's charcoal
👍🏽👍🏽
Please, can I give it to goats??
Diatomaceous earth is better than chemicals......
Check out Greg Judy. He has a couple books, and a yt channel. I think you'll enjoy the guys input.
Gotta ask how’s you get over Covid? Since we’re talking medication here…
I just got plenty of rest, vitamins and chicken soup both times I've had it. Made sure I didn't over do it but got out for a bit of movement every day feeding the cows...keeping the lungs opened up
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer yeah some say move some say don’t move sleep all ya can I have no idea. Hoping I’m on the back side of it myself now. Hoping the pneumonia don’t creep up and attack unexpectedly or something
Are give them potash
✌✌✌
What, no bloopers?
Have you ever considered diatomaceous earth? I know next to nothing about cattle, but it works great with cats and dogs, and it's 100% safe.
It’s not safe for the lungs. Quite the opposite.
amen...it's not at all safe for the lungs must be wet to give to them, I'm not sure I'm a believer just yet
As Sun Shine says...it's safe..but not "100% Safe" gotta be aware that inhaling the dust is bad for lungs
Some of those cows look ready to pop !
If you have a little heifer born on April 20th you have to name it Teena ☺️
✌️💛🇨🇦
lol that would be funny
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer It would be the best bday gift ever!! 🥰
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👋👋👋☕️☕️☕️👀👀👀🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
usually animals eat clay rocks.. not charcoal. and no need to deworm if you dont give meat to cows
NOW THEN,... WILL THIS WORK WITH MY PET DUCKS, CHICKENS AND GUINEAS ??....
burn yourself a brush pile and let them have access...you'll see right away..they'll be bathing in it and pecking in it like nobodies business
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer what is the best type of wood to burn ? I have a lot of pine on my farm.
Not to mention they are making it harder for farmers to get Ivermectin. Love the videos.
Let’s go Brandon.
You can still get Ivermectin pretty easily my brotha. I keep some on hand from amazon just in case I get an animal that requires medicating ...which has been pretty rare so far
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I shouldn’t have said harder, more expensive is what I meant.
Keep on educating. Love your videos.
Joe don't tell me that you are actually taking it for yourself instead of giving it to your animals!!!
@@christopherdukes2425 you’re crazy for even asking... 🤦♂️
@@christopherdukes2425 I am and if its good enough for a $1,000,000 race horse its good enough for me. Used to pay $24 a dozen a yr ago
Better tell everyone NOT TO USE WHAT YOU BARBEQUE
oh I thought this was a way to pre-marinate your beef lol...give it that smokey flavor from the pasture
Activated charcoal is great for your gut too.
