Two popular stereo cartridge headshells compared by design, style and price. Ortofon and Technics are both excellent, but what are the important difference?
@Hi-Fi..Wow...nice cartridges!! Yes..the Ortofon definitely has much bigger finger lift. I have Ortofon Super OM20 and Super OM30. I love the OM30. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment !! Enjoy the music!
I use the Audio Technics HS-10, and I like it a lot more than the usual Technics style. But it does require twisting the cartridge (AT100E with VMN40ML) in the head shell to align it on a Technics S arm, just like every headshell I’ve tried.
The Ortofon is a little heavier and higher because the ortofon om red ,blue etc is higher than most other pu's. The Technics headshell is an Audio Technica product and costs 100 danish kroner = 15 usd.
I have the 'Big Finger' with a 2M Red on my very old Technics turntable - I love the sound but the finger doesn't fit under the cover of the turntable.
It's impossible for me the Ortofon headshell in any local Toronto stores and was told repeatedly it was a special order. So I ordered from BHPhoto for it's better price, and they said it was in stock. Now I find out its on backorder with them.
I have two of these Ortofons. One for my 2M Silver MM, and the other for my Fidelity Research MC. They’re simply elegant , functional and help reduce the overhang of my tonearm. The best part is the lift. I’ll never understand why some quite expensive tables have arms with stumpy headshells. My stylus is of value!
Hey buddy long time no hear from you. Glad you're still kickin. I remember way back when you review the big Larry flashlight. Keith Kuhn KK Motion Pictures also on CZcams

What i hate about this system is that the headshell is pulled into the arm with only one pin on top. As a consequence it never sits truly straight into / onto the arm. The rubber gasket makes things worse..
I have both head shells but prefer the Nagaoka HS with the MP-150 cart. Amazing quality and sound.
I was hoping for a sound comparison....I have swapped the Technics for Ortofon with LVB250....remarkable improvement!
Great Video and thanks for sharing your knowledge !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really enjoy your videos. With my older fingers, the Ortofon would probably do me good! Love my 2M Blue, and 2M Bronze catridges.

The same design as the Technics headshell it is available from Audio Technica, it's model AT-HS1! Got them and they're very nice indeed!
Very nice video Sir
Do you suggest a Universal sort of Headshell for Technics SL-1200 G.

Great review thanks! What cartridge do you use with your Technics head?
Hey...thanks!
Ortofon Super OM30
Audio Technica AT7V
Shure M95ED
Shure M97xE
...not liking the M97xE too much
With the 52mm overhang on most Technics decks I can only get proper cart alignment with the proper Technics headshell.
What model do you use? I have a 1700mk2 and do not have this issue
You can buy fancier gold plated cables if you wish.
I've got Vestax head shells, it's similar to the Ortfon; much simpler.
Yes .. I was thinking about getting better head shell cables. 👍
@@gattigail Turntablelab.com in New York has them.
Yeah, the Technics headshell is very pretty.
It has 3 racing holes to add lightness too.
Yeah I agree
Will the second one fit my kam ddx 750
Im not sure....to be honest
