thank you for this! i adore your channel, this is super cool and very helpful!
I am so happy to hear! Thanks so much for dropping a note and glad you enjoyed.
Great video..!! Thank you for sharing with us the way you edit our photos... My phone photo, I also turned it into black and white... I love how they look
Thank you so much for sharing your work and for watching!!
Thanks for taking my picture in the thumbnail! I’m so happy!! Love your videos ❤
Such an outstanding image! Thank you so much for sharing it!!
I just looooooove to hear you thru your thinking process. Thanks for sharing.
I am SO glad to hear. I think it might be too exhausting for most but really happy you enjoyed it!
@@OneMonthTwoCameras don’t worry, we are all “creative rambling enjoying” nerds. 🤣🤍✨
@@kmontes0 thank goodness! :)
I love your profile. Thank you for sharing it and this demonstration. It is great to see how you did it. For some reason I prefer a warmer blue. So I have sometimes changed the blue when I use your profile 😊
I'm so glad you're enjoying it! It's definitely meant for tweaking so I'm glad you've found how it best works for you.
Yeeh, My photos in the video!:) It was interesting to watch how u edit them)
Glad you like them!
Great tutorial, always interesting to see how other photogs approach editing. The best presets I have found are Casey Cavenaugh’s (GXAce) and Ben’s. Casey’s aren’t as refined as Ben’s but are unbelievable at recreating different filmic looks.
Thanks for editing my photo at 35:40! I must've been logged into my secondary Google account with a phony name - sorry to disappoint 😆
The photo was taken with a 5D Classic and the plastic 50mm. Thanks for the great tip with the micro-contrast! I probably never would have figured that out on my own 😁
Awesome thank you for sharing!!!
Finally carved out some time to watch this in its entirety! Agreed on the limited highlight capabilities of the M10 😂
It's pretty amazing how the OMTC profile gets you 80-90% there in most of the processing examples with a few small tweaks left to finish things off. I would guess that's a big deal for you when you are trying to process and then post a dozen or more images!
It really saves my hide a lot of time, which I have so little of! Thanks for watching :)
You mentioned in your camera cull video you were going to do an Olympus C7000 review. I'd love to see that as I bought one on a whim yesterday. Need to get a card for it so haven't seen what it can manage yet, but I like the aperture priority and exposure comp controls.
I love my C7000! The trouble with having so many cameras is finding time to review them all but it is definitely in the cue.
Hemglass = Home Icecream = Ice cream truck :D Very nostalgic image for me as a swede!
Yet another very informative video! Thank you sooooo much for sharing!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love that you just made it really f'ing long!
A literal entry into the cave of my mind. The hike takes ages 😂
I made it to the end 🎉
Hey Alexis (it was Alexis right?). Thank you for the inspiration with your whole series about CCD and Foveon. I bought the LX3, XZ1, a Fuji F200EXR, a DP1s. I already owned a M9 before...
As you may know (or not) my business is about converting negative film with various approaches on the software side. After spotting the raws from all that different CCD cameras i came up with the idea to make camera profiles specially for CCD compact cameras, that mimic the look of the Leica M8. I did this by extracting the color signature (in easy words) of the M8 files and "inject" it in the files of the other cameras by using camera profiles. Yes, real .dcp camera profiles and not .xmp profiles like others use. They will work in LR and ACR. Every dcp profile needs manual correction because WB, sensors and lenses are a bit different on different cameras, but all in all it works well. Let me know if you want to try them ❤️
Thanks again for pointing me into this direction. Best, André
Andre, that sounds SUPER interesting. Do you have that DCP available anywhere?
i'm super interested !!!
Everyone is different and have different taste, you did a great job. I really like to make my photo pop ,I take different most of the photo type of photo than you are editing...a lot of photographer is in the camera and knowing how to set it up,I got a point and shoot but only use limited, when I cnt bring a big camera...I enjoyed watching you edit ,great skills...;)>
Very informative video. I'm not all the way through it yet, but I'm curious what program you are using to edit. (Maybe I missed that part.) I only use free editing programs like Pixlr, so I guess I'd have to adapt the general method from what you present here.
My apologies! I am editing in Lightroom, but the principals are the same regardless of the editor you're working in. I hope it is helpful!
I see that you came to montreal, my hometown. from the picture around 30 min through 35 min. Hope you liked it.
Having watched this video and using the preset feels so much like cheating. I love it
Nice and informative. Agree with the (modern) Fuji raws ever since the Xpro 2 they seem to lean to more magenta, especially with skin tones. My last Fuji was the x100v sold that and went all in with older "digicam" and never been happier!
The photo @43 mins is absolutely superb.
Really glad to hear I'm not the only one with this sentiment... I wanted to go with the XT4 for the manual dials and ease of pulling a in-camera processed JPEG but couldn't get around the plastic feeling of the body and a sort of flimsy feeling of less dynamic range...
Ali, I’ve not heard you mention using a calibrated monitor while you edit. Do you use one? I figured you must, since your color perception is so refined.
That is a great point Jack! I do not in fact use a calibrated monitor. I don't even have a desktop computer. I'm just winging it on my laptop as my philosophy is, so long as we're talking about screens, the calibration of mine isn't going to matter as everyone is consuming on non calibrated screens as well so the variance will be great from one viewer to the next. If I'm printing, then I would absolutely opt for something calibrated and work in the appropriate color space. Sadly I hardly ever print but perhaps someday!
0:20 Glassbilen 😮
I felt the same about the files from the x100v and generally the Fuji sensors that they are not as easy to work with in raw. Maybe it’s my lack of skills but I found other raw file types more malleable.
you and me both.
@@OneMonthTwoCameras Yeah, I found exactly the same. I'd entirely given up on digital photography trying to work with immalibale X-pro 1 RAW files. Then I discovered the full frame Canon RP and was blown away. A few simple edits in Lightroom and I easily get an image that looks like really, really good slide film. Piece of cake.
Awesome video Ali! It was really neat to see your process and the steps you take. I know Lightroom doesn't offer any lens info on M43 lenses - my Olympus was an OM-D E-M10 Mk II with a 12-50mm lens. I'm usually conscious of blowing out the shadows and highlights while editing, and more often than others, pixel peeping and deleting most of the pics because I don't see the level of sharpness I'd like to see.
Oh wonderful thank you for sharing!
Have you tried DxO Film Pack 6? There are some nice "real" film looks.
I have actually! I think it is such a great and wonderful option.
I just use a combo of p.s. express and snapseed. They look good.
Thank you for the video!
P.S. The link to download your free lightroom profile doesn't work, can you update it?
Thank you for letting me know!
my picture (19:13-25:00) was shot with a Canon 5D classic (+ a Canon 50mm/1.8 STM).
AHH! I love learning what the camera was. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
Anyone reveal the Epson? Has to be rd1 but sheesh those tones are nice
I am anxiously awaiting an answer as well!
@@OneMonthTwoCameras there haven't been an awful lot of Epson cameras, given the pixel count (3008 x 2000) it most certainly has to be the RD-1. Also isn't an RD-1 user bound to navigate towards your community? :D
@@sheldonspock5566 yeah it’s interesting no one has claimed it. They did have some point and shoots but you’re probably right about the RD1
Oh man I am so sorry for being so late on this lol, but yes this was indeed the Epson R-D1! It is one of my favorite cameras ever made, just such a unique camera!
@@OneMonthTwoCameras Sorry for not being up to date on this (insert smiling face emoji that has the sweat bead next to it)
But really, this was a great video! Thank you for showing us your workflow and also for accepting my photograph to be included in the samples! ^_^
15:32 boahh that pic is amazing does anyone know what camera was used there?
It’s a Canon 5D Classic with 50mm 1.8 STM lens :)
@@OneMonthTwoCamerasthank you☺️by the way great videos
@@ariaLampadaria thank you!!
I have been under an impression that it seems you have an aesthetic standard. The standard is that a work that is more like a series of notes or a notebook of a thought process is more important than a work that aims for a single aesthetic completion. The "thought" that takes form. Not the perfectly beautiful picture made by AI.
If that Epson is an RD1 I might have to go to eBay and make some great bad financial choices....
I am dying to know as well!
Where is leica 601? Haven't completed watching it, then it was gone. .....
I’m so sorry - hit a major snafu in YT and have to reupload. Should be live in 30 minutes or so.
17:40 Leica M10
34:00 Tristan Legros - Mamiya ZD, another oddball!
44:30 one of the 20 MP Canons (6D, 7D MkII, 70D...)
Oh how wild! My friend has a ZD as well. Medium format no less!

Yep!
On your rant on Fuji files (even if it was a Leica in the end 😆 ): Lightroom and Fuji X-Trans doesn't match well, that is true. I am using my X-Trans cameras only for jpegs for that very reason. One thing that works fairly well though is to rightclick -> enhance the image. Essentially the program uses a different method to convert the RAW into an image file and stores that as a DNG. Working with that helps a lot but it takes a couple seconds per image to do the conversion because it is an AI process, afaik.
OH WOW GREAT TIP! I have used that function but not on my Fuji files. Keen to try that now. Thanks for sharing!
For my own tastes, I think your proile just makes most images too orange/yellow. Obviously we may have differently calibrated monitors... But it looks that way on mine!
For sure and no one’s taste should be the same. It’s what makes photographers unique and interesting. My goal here is to teach people to fish, not hand off my catch. If one can understand the tools and how to use them hopefully everyone will find their own look that suits their visuals and aesthetic.
@@OneMonthTwoCameras Obviously! I was simply voicing an opinion!
