  • Hey guys! In today's video we take a look at a little gem I played as a kid called Piglet's Big Game, and I'll share a short story about how it totally freaked me out.
    I know the footage is a bit grainy and I am working on making sure it's better next time. I'm really sorry if it's not up to standards.
    I have bigger projects coming but I wanted to come back with something a bit shorter and simpler. I hope you like it even though it's a bit different. Thanks for watching!

    The dark ambient tracks in this game’s OST are so overlooked. They legit sound like something out of Silent Hill. This game was really like no other because it was like a horror game aimed at kids. I know it freaked me out lmao.

      Literally. Foreboding 1 is an ambient horror masterpiece

    In case you don't know, after completing each one of the 6 levels, you can go back and capture all the heffalumps and woozles that run away. There's a time limit in each room that has Heffalumps/Woozles. If you don't capture the Heffalumps/Woozles in time, you'll have to leave the room and go back to it.

    I feel like this game should've had the same plot as the film, but from Piglet's POV as he is searching for his friends

    This game sounds good,especially because I’m a Pooh Bear fan. That story at the end was so sweet! Honestly,kids need to be more encouraged in video games. Nowadays,they play it way too safe.

    Wow, this game is way more graphically impressive than it has the right to be for the time period it came out in lol. Great video!

    Piglet's Big Game is Baby's first Bloodborne.
    You travel into dreams to hunt Nightmares, after all.

    I'm happy to see a video like this for this game. It was a definite part of my childhood, and I was similarly scared of the enemies 😅

    That Phoenix Studio at the end apparently also tried to pitch Ubisoft a prototype for a Rayman 4 that was rejected in favor of Rayman Raving Rabbids (I'm a bit of a Rayman fan and have known this for years). They also worked on the PSP port of the Peter Jackson's King Kong game and a few games on Ubisoft's Petz series.

    came here from the spongebob video and HOOOO BOY im glad someone's talking about this game. i have no nostalgic connection to this game besides wanting it as a kid and never getting it and playing its sequel rumbly tumbly adventure, but i found myself enjoying this game so much at 22. it's really good at being a kids game and it's good at being a game for adults too. the narration and lack of reading makes it the perfect game for a small child, and it's basically asmr for an adult. i must admit that it's better than rumbly tumbly adventure just simply because of the varied environments and that makes my nostalgia blind self sad but hey!! two games!! woohoo. if you like pbg you should play rta it's less surreal and more grounded if you're into that. more asmr. i also love winnie the pooh and find the whole thing comforting so maybe im biased??? also thank you for mentioning the music i swear to god it's okay ingame but listening to that shit alone is like... what is this shit. why is it so terrifying. anyways yeah i was terrified of bits of rta as a kid so your heffalump and woozle fear wasnt like. unjustified. unless im also a coward idk.
    also you didnt mention the post-level sequences where you can revisit levels and chase the heffalumps and woozles and kill them by touching them. it's surprisingly hard at some points because god i suck at chasing things down

    i know this is 3 years old but, quality video. im glad i wasnt the only one who was fucking terrified at times of this game as a kid, i played it recently as an adult and i disagree with "if you're over 10 this game's not for you" cause i still love it

    I may not have played this game, but I did play another Winnie the pooh video game made by the same company as a kid which was Rumbly Tumbly Adventure. If I played this one back then, I would've had fun 😀

    This was and still is one of my favorite childhood games. Piglet's Big Game is certainly a hidden gem. I replayed this game after a long time when I set it aside as a kid. I remembered loving it and beating back in the day, so I replayed it and I was mind blown by how creative this game was. I always heard people being afraid of this game when they were kids, but I wasn't really too scared of it since I was into light scary themes. I enjoyed watching Courage the Cowardly Dog back then so that probably got me prepared. My favorite level was Eyore's Dream as I was into haunted levels. Looking back at this game made me really glad I got to experience it during my childhood. Great job with the video. This special game definitely needs to be more well-known to people.

    If I were to do more videos like this that are more of just an overview and less of the games development, what games would you want to see? I'll always do my best to research the games I cover and try to learn new things about them, but that isn't always possible. Such as with this video.

      A game I would love to see you look at is the video game for the first Madagascar movie it’s a game I played a ton as a kid and I think it’s better than most people give it credit for most reviews I can find just call it a typical licensed 3D platformer and not much else but I think the game is a hidden gem but who knows maybe I’m just blinded by nostalgia

    I owned the GBA version of this when I was really little; seeing this video, I'm shocked to find out how much the devs strived for parity between the lead platform and handheld versions; I'd have expected the two to differ drastically in mechanics and level design like most multiplatform titles of the era (especially with it being a licensed game for younger audiences), but based on what you showed here, it looks like the GBA version was a direct low-spec recreation; a "de-make", if you prefer. Interesting to see that sort of effort here, of all places. That said, I'd be willing to bet that the main game controled a lot better than the one I grew up with; I remember having really mixed feelings about the game because the GBA version's controls were stiff as hell and Piglet's movement speed was painfully slow.
    Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane; I was practically raised on 5th and 6th gen licensed games like this, lol. I also enjoyed your Revenge of the Flying Dutchman video, by the way; it was kind of a relief to find out that my multiple PS2 copies refusing to load wasn't due to me having scratched the discs like I'd originally thought as a kid. If I were to offer one point of criticism, though: I'd recommend shortening the amount of time spent discussing/listing specific menu options in the future; it kind of hurts the pacing of the video and doesn't feel all that necessary in understanding the topic as a whole. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing more content from you, going forward; I love seeing weird and obscure games revisited from a modern perspective, especially the licensed stuff.

    • @WhoNeedsNormal
      @WhoNeedsNormal  Před 4 lety

      Thanks man and I'll keep that in mind. I wouldn't have discussed the menu as much if I didn't find the mechanics of it interesting. Next time I'll think twice

    • @bigchunchy
      @bigchunchy Před 4 lety

      @@WhoNeedsNormal To be fair, I totally get it; that style of playable menu spaces is an interesting design choice that you don't really see much of outside of that specific era; I just felt like the details could have been condensed a bit. Anyway, cool vids overall!
