    Thats why you book a tour guide. Saying the Panama Canal is not interesting is like hearing people say the Collosseum is just an old building. You need to know the history and the incredible work behind it.

    Anyone reading this, don't listen to this guy about the Fish Market. GO TO THE FISH MARKET!!! It is a truly local Panamanian experience. It is a great place to go, especially to eat!! He is right, the environment is not great- its a working fish market, its not a restaurant (though there is one inside). It is very casual, working class. This is a place where the locals all go! The ceviche sold here is very popular and is awesome! It is not fancy but is very cheap! Its just sold in styrafoam cups, nothing fancy. You can get a freshly made cup of ceviche or shimp coctail for like $2.50. Beer is super cheap too, like $1 or $1.50. If your a photographer, this is one of the best places for cityscape pictures. After eating some awesome super cheap ceviche and having a beer, go for a walk along the waterfront Cinta Costera walkway or malecon (3 or 4km long).

    The canal is a must see...panama city is safe. This stuff creates fear for people from the states... relax and enjoy Panama.. miami is far more dangerous... I live in fort Lauderdale my family is Panamanian... I have traveled back and forth many times over the last 40 years... panama is rated one of the best places to visit or relocate for a reason....

    The beauty of the canal can only be appreciated if you know the history behind it. Just like Pearl Harbor: If you don't know it's history, its just another building. The Alamo? Same thing. We could keep going. And there is only another one in the whole world, so its a pretty unique experience you wont find anywhere else.

      Playa Bonita is really nice but if you're looking for an amazing trip and outstanding beaches go to San Blas. It consists of more than 300 islands and every island is prettier than the last one.

      GD 10, thank you for the tip. Sounds awesome do you have pictures? The Playa Bonita trip is a freebie from work that we will go on and we will look into the San Blas excursion for the next trip.

    Tourist spreading misinformed generalizations is not the way to get advise into how to get to know a country, it's people and culture. If you want bias opinions go to traveling silverback. FYI all those areas you mark as "bad areas" where severily affected by the USA occupation on Panama in 1989. This communities house the soul of Panama's resiliency, I'm glad you didn't go into el chorrillo or currundu, you are not deserving. Teaching people to "take advantage" by not paying fees is just shady. Wow!

    • @dudeonthesaxophone3578
      @dudeonthesaxophone3578 Pƙed 6 lety +1

      Not quite accurate LADY!!! I lived in Panama for 7 years (before, during, and after the invasion) and those 'bad' areas were historically bad long before the conflict and it's sad they continue to be today! You are correct these area's house the souls of Panama's resiliency. However, to see 30yrs later that Panama has become overrun with Skyscrapers and those very same area's are still neglected and disregarded is more of a testament to the corrupt leadership that still pervades that nation and the 'couldn't care less' attitude of the people who live there. It's true, the People of Panama are extremely hard working and very talented (of which my wife of 29yrs is one) but they allow shady politicians and smooth talkers to rule them and get taken advantage of. Unfortunately, it takes someone from Panama to leave that country for several years and then return for them to open their eyes and see the economic injustice their Government inflicts upon them while at the same time being one of the richest latin american nations. That's what you should be upset about!!!

      I usually don't respond to any of the comments people post but I feel compelled to respond to "Ladyamorinfinito," specifically her comment about "the USA occupation on Panama." I was stationed in Panama before, during, and after the invasion (and participated in it) and your comment really bothered me. The US invaded Panama to remove Noriega, NOT to inflict harm on the hard-working Panamanian citizens, or take their land; in fact, the opposite is true, the US worked towards turning control of the canal back to the Panamanians once the government was stable enough to handle it. The US did Panama a great service by capturing and punishing Noriega for the years of brutal dictatorship and corruption he inflicted on Panama's people. I loved Panama then, and I am in the process of moving back now and when I do, I will avoid the bad areas because like it or not, there are some very bad areas in Panama City because of their own doing, not because the US removed a corrupt dictator.
