I agree , total morons the lot of them. This is better looking from every angle than a Focus hatch back , and the 2.0 VVTi Hybrid is faster and more economical than the dated ford 1.5 eco blue diesel.

This show must be sponsored by the VW group or something. It's by far the most striking looking hatch in this segment. How they can call the look unnoticeable is baffling. As many others have said the Golf is way more dull and boring. Toyota made an excellent job with the styling in my opinion and deserve some credit to be bold unlike the predictable competition.
Have u driven a Golf before. Even better drive one from 2011 and see if the 2019 Corrolla would come anywhere near it. That's why they are giving an honest opinion. Toyotas are way behind like up to 5-10yrs in refinement and driving abilities. But hey they sell
@@endzmeetmusic9053 Take a 7 yr old golf and the equivalent corolla (each with high mileages) to any respectable mechanic and compare wear and tear on both cars. For most families, it comes down to the wallet. Thats where the Corolla outshines any Volkswagen - lets not forget Golfs infamous auto. I do agree that the golf is a much more engaging drive though.
Toyota is 5-10 years behind? Hahahahahaha. Obviously talking rubbish. How about other brands being 5-10 years behind on quality and durability?

@@endzmeetmusic9053 I driven both the Corolla and Golf (as rental vehicles) and the Corolla is every bit a match for the Golf in refinement, and build quality. In fact the interior has the edge on the latest Golf which has gone backwards if anything especially in material quality. Plus (as so many others are commenting) the Corolla looks great and the Golf boring as shit.

I usually don’t comment on reviews but I think this one must be commented because I didn’t agree with it.
First of all, it’s an extremely good looking hatchback probably only losing in looks against the Mazda 3 (or being neck to neck). Second, the interior is full of high quality materials that are both well built and feel robust.
When it comes to the engine, that 1.8 is the dull engine of the Corolla but also the most fuel efficient. The 1.2turbo exists and it’s offered with a manual transmission and there’s the 180hp 2.0 hybrid which is just insane(if I’m not wrong the 2.0 actually has got reworked suspension).
+ it will be reliable and in the next 20/25 years, if laws allow it, it will be one of the few hatchbacks that will still work and do what it’s supposed to.

Hi there, I normally don't comment either, but I can't help this time! I can't believe they didn't have one nice thing to say about the new Corolla. I just text drove it yesterday, it was actually nothing like the old toyota that we knew. Even my friend who drive a mini and went with me said the interior was so nice that she didn't even expect to see this level of quality in a toyota.

Biubiubiu Luo IKR! It’s actually such a great car! (When it comes to materials actually the E12(previous to the 1st gen Auris) had materials that could rival the Mk4 Golf in every single aspect. This new Corolla actually has got better materials than the new Golf!

When your scores do not reflect the end user satisfaction, then there is a problem with your scoring. How can such a car get a 5 (out of 10) from some of the reviewers in this video. Looks better than an A3, consumes less fuel and will last much longer. one of the best cars out there.

What is bhp? Is that an imperial measurement used by 4 countries in the world out of 190 countries?
Wayne Hobbs ok smarty pants it’s 90kw if that’s what you use but most places use horsepower as a standard measurement. Also using bhp makes sense since this is a british video and in Britain this is how we measure it.

I've seen quite a few on the road now, and I think they look really good. Looks much more interesting than a generic golf

It's a hatchback it's not meant to excite.. They don't look at a golf and go "wow" and then give it a 4/5,they let it off because its a hatchback and say "it does what it's meant to and its not meant to excite" bias review. Come on guys!!
Why did they test the slowest one? They should have tested the 2.0 Hybrid with 180 hp.
Because the 2.0 Hybrid isn't sold outside the US. The 2.0L engine is reserved for the Camry in markets outside NA.

No advertising. Money? I have driven several times the new corolla in USA and Asia. They are all average cars but probably The best average car for a very reasonable money with tons reliability.
This wasn't a fair review honestly. Review with it's competitors in mind. You can't expect a corolla to look like a RR Velar and drive like a Phantom
I drive the estate 2.0L hybrid excel version of this car. It feels even more smooth and refined than my dad's Merc E class. The transition from electric to engine is seamless.Best car I've ever driven.

A shocking and totally biased review. Verdict clearly decided before they had the keys, over a minute wasted mocking the design! No mention of reliability or warranty or amazing efficiency, engines available in the range, equipment, price? For example? I expect the plasticy Golf MK8 with shorter warranty, no full hybrid option, worse reliability, inferior specification, cost cutting build quality / chassis tech and made by a company that lied about emissions, will get the full marks..

That review was harsh! I happen to own a 2019 Corolla Hybrid (base model) and I personally think Toyota are on to a winner with it. I am loving the standard LED exterior lights, the way it handles, the light yet responsive steering, not to mention getting around 1000kms per tank of fuel. This car has truly sold me on the brand!
Toyota is a name of reliability and now they have improved their looks also..

I've just traded a GT 86 in for a 2.0 GR estate, I think it's a great looking thing. Plus comfortable and quiet. Perfect for someone with a knackered back and knees 🤣

The new Corolla look incredible. They look refreshing yet discreet. t's a complete departure from the conservative and traditional design language that has been the identity of the Toyota Corolla for 50 years. The Golf has been boring to the point of collective suicide since the mk 2. The Focus is a Ford so it's rubbish. The Civic is the closest good competiton. Vicky is 5'5-ish tall. She can't see out of a lot of cars. They test supercars and performance machines for a living. Its not about laptimes and trackdays. Knowing Toyota, it will be wonderfully well-made, incredibly reliable and a good car for the average family.
Were they trying to be sarcastic? If not then this is the most abysmal review, full of lies I have ever seen. I bet they think the Golf Mk8 and Astra K look good too 🤦🏾♂️
Not quite sure what they're on about on the looks. Definitely doesn't look any less exciting than other cars in its class.
Honestly so tired of these types of motoring journalists. Giving it a 4/10 for how it went around corners on a track, is like judging a person for how well their hips work. For what it is, it looks good, comfortable, refined, super reliable, reasonably priced and for me has a bit little bit more character than a Golf. That's why you buy these things...

I own this car and I can say its very economic (I teach students with it) its fun to drive and I'm really happy with it. the only down side is when u like to do a small burnout it doesn't do it and sometimes it lacks a bit at the beginning when you want to accelerate fast. its the smoothest and stealthy car I ever drove. It cost me 33k euros and many people called me crazy because as I said I teach students how to drive with it. many nice comments on the car and yes its a head turn... i think u really dont know what is a new corolla :) how can u judge that beauty if you drive it for a few hours? you need to drive it every day to know what it does.

Not a friend of Hatches but nobody has ever bought a Corolla thinking it's a DB9, it's the car you buy a know you'll never have a problem for 20 years. It's a car that get the job of going from A to B excellently.

I have one of these as a rental at the moment and I think it's a very nice car. The standard review comments that ita boring. If it had a BMW badge they would say it a drivers car. I think it's good looking and does what a small cheap hatch should do.

Saw one of these in sonic silver and it really stood out. 180bhp hybrid with Toyota reliability. From an ownership pov I couldn't take owning another German car, something always goes wrong with them. That love soon turns to hate.
It's the first review I see thst say it's dull. Probably because of the color.
Usually it's the blue one.
It may not be to everyones taste (I'm not a huge fan of it), but it's sure not dull. When you have a golf, a leon, a megane... that are basic, this is completly different.

I’m struggling with this. While searching for a new car over the past week. I have test drove a focus, a golf, a Leon, a 308 and a Corolla . Admittedly it was a manual not a CVT I had more fun driving the Toyota than any of the others. So much so I bought it.
I understand that other brands of cars are being manufactured and assembled in UK
and they must be praised.
And the Far East cars are the biggest competitions.
It is one of the most reliable cars in the world and one of the most beautiful.

In my opinion the Fifth Gear team got this one wrong. They’re possibly of touch with the reality of everyday folks. The car looks really good (inside and out), it’s super reliable, fuel efficient and the 2.0l hybrid is rapid.
Toyota have finally made a Corolla which you can buy with both your head and your heart.
One of best looking hatchbacks on road and I've driven it, don't understand the CVT complaint, it's a little noisy but only because the rest of the car is so quiet. Hardly noticed it tbh
