And Yuuji is essentially an orphan after his grandpa’s death, making him by default a ward of the school. Meaning, Gojo is probably legally listed as his current guardian. So I think Gojo was trying to be there for Yuuji yet also really wanted to be with a kid who’d be more open to the idea of him acting as a parent around them. Things that he could get away with Yuuji but not Megumi due to the different personalities.
