      It is a challenge. If it were 100% authentic, would it attract the international tourist trade? And without those dollars, would the place even exist? I guess it's a tightrope walk for those involved. 😎

      I practically had to do a last minute re-edit. Hopefully that doesn't happen too often. It's stressful! Yes I was a little tormented about the place. I loved it in some ways, in others I felt a little less enthusiastic. But it was certainly worth visiting. I'd do it again.👍 Glad you enjoyed the video!

    Love your take on Port Arthur. I went there years ago and I didn't really feel like I "felt" the emotional aspect of the place. You articulated my thoughts well for when I was there previously. Awesome footage and you made me chuckle in parts.

    • @HerMotorcycleAdventures
      @HerMotorcycleAdventures  Před 3 lety +1

      Glad you liked it. I was quite surprised at my thoughts on the place, especially when it has been touted as an "emotional experience". On the contrary, Lime Bay doesn't have all the bells and whistles but I found it incredibly moving. I felt the energy in the cells and it made my skin crawl at times. Needless to say I was definitely glad I went and I would still overall recommend it as a place to visit.

    Interesting fact. My Ancestor who was held at Port Arthur, was one of few to escape and swim, yes swam across to the small island in other side; only to get caught and brought back. Forwhich he got many a lashing for his efforts haha.
    Was that the Richmond bridge you crossed on your way there. .. another fact, that was the bridge I dreamt about for many years as a kid, prior to ever knowing about it. As you can imagine my surprise when I saw it and found it was built by convicts of the time and signed upon it. Crazy ay. Thing is I never dreamt about that bridge ever again.
    Great video once again. Thanx for sharing your journey.

    Your videos are enjoyable to watch & your respect & dignity for that area is valid.. remembering Port Arthur was the last place on earth that many Convicts /petty thieves/our relatives & white settlers saw! Maybe the manicured gardens are a reflection of being a cemetery & resting place for some..It was a Prison once but now a major part of Australia's history!

      True. Many did die there. If you find yourself back there check out the 'Isle of The Dead'. That tiny island has an estimated 1200 bodies buried there. Yes, I think that's how I felt. The combination of an 'English country garden' and a prison just seemed to contradict each other. You are so right about Lime Bay, Did you read some of the creepy signs there ? One written in 1850 said "Having had full evidence of the deeds in the darkness perpetrated in the mines, I contemplated the naked figures, faintly perceptible in the gloom, with feelings of horror". Its been 8 months since I visited Lime Bay and that sign and the images it conjures up are still in my mind, you will never forget a visit to Lime Bay that is for sure . thanks again for your videos mate.

    I love your take on this place. I very proud of way you realise it's a bit of tourist hocus pocus set up for the wealthy to just enjoy the gardens. Truth is that this is a horrific place and the reason the original buildings barely stand is because they were smashed up and burned out of anger for the torture within after the place was eventually closed. It is nothing to celebrate and definitely shouldn't be made to look like a wealthy garden estate. That just makes fake of what the place actually is. Typical tourist enterprise of Tasmania, make hell on earth look like paradise.

      Sadly, to me, that seems the case. It's a stunningly beautiful place. And it's a great day out. But I was struggling to find the emotional connection I was seeking. Hi Rod. I believe most women were incarcerated at the Female Factory in Hobart. With a number of them sent to Port Arthur to work as servants for officials etc. Yes the massacre is certainly on the minds of many here, with most involved wishing to not give him any airtime. There are people working there today who lost loved ones on that day & don't desire to link that unique place with the person. Ultimately I chose to not mention it. Thanks so much for supporting me.
