How to Bait Gankers with an Alpha Clone in Eve Online - Version 2

  • It's been a couple years since our original Eve Online baiting/anti-ganker video made it's rounds ( • How to Bait Gankers wi... ) but we recently discovered that it still very much works. Don't be that guy caught hauling 3b in your untanked hauler, for everyone to laugh at on the killboards while justifying the existence of the Jita gankers.
    Even with Alpha skills and restrictions it is very simple to load your T1 hauler with some shiney cargo and NOT get exploded by people that want to ruin your game experience for extremely little risk or inconvenience. I still don't understand how known criminals can do business at the local police station all while the police are saying "you are a criminal leave or be destroyed...", yeah, ok, sure. How about you don't let them into 1.0, or don't let them dock or do anything in navy/police stations? I know, its crazy, having consequences for in game behavior.... psssshhhhhh.

    TIP: at ~4:30, where you considered not activating the kill right worrying he might leave, you easily could've, had you kept an eye on his velocity. Nados take a bit of a while to align, and while he was sitting at 0 speed, you could've easily activated the kill right AND still have enough time to lock it - even in a BS. Alternatively, bit safer, start locking it, and, if he still doesn't move/align, activate the kill right just before the lock completes.
    Otherwise - Good Job! Always nice to see people messing with the gankers

      Perhaps, though 99% of carebears would have no idea how remote reps work and wouldn't dare duel a corpmate and I'm guessing most pilots haven't figured out how easy those dailys can be. But as an alpha we can't do as much of the stuff we used to have so much fun doing as omegas (or endless pick a ship class 1v1 best of 5's on SiSi). But having those daily ships really makes those opportunities go fast. I would just use an alt, but since alpha accounts can't run multiple sessions from the same PC had to use plan B.

      When a player illegally aggresses you, you gain a Killright in that player for 30 days. This gives you an option to set that player as “suspect” (aka yellow flashy) for 15 minutes so you or someone else can freely shoot them and try to blow up their ship. You also have the option to sell that Killright instead of using it yourself. This will display like you saw me do when I caught them with my Nightmare, I bought someone else’s Killright they had posted for 20 million. The theory behind selling the Killright is to recoup losses of the original victim.

      Generally I swap between 2-3 characters each time I log in, since I gave each character a different ship with loot. Though fairly certain a few years back the last time my brother and I did this we got blacklisted by quite a few gankers, which is fine by me if I never get scanned. Way back in the day when we were baiting gate camping vexor gangs, we even had a few so squirrely they would leave system or log off if one of us showed up.
      I at least still get routinely scanned no matter which account I'm on so I'm guessing I'm not blacklisted by the newer gankers yet.

    • @hikingphotog
      @hikingphotog  Před 4 měsíci

      Yep, as long as the target is a legitimate target (aka Suspect/Criminal/Duel flag etc). Only thing you can't use legally in HiSec is smartbombs, well, you can, you just better make sure there aren't any innocents around (I've used a smartbomb cruiser to catch a ganker's pod after we caught him at his deep safe). So I guess you can use anything you want in Hi-Sec as long as anyone effected by it is a legit target (except caps of course).

      @@hikingphotog I thought bomb launchers also won't work in hisec, is it true?

  • @bradb3245
    @bradb3245 Před 26 dny

    The misconception is that pilots feel Hi-Sec means "Safe Sec". If that were true, there wouldn't be a security rating system, and more importantly, you wouldn't be able to agress a neutral pilot at all, similar to what ccp has done for Alpha pilots. Truth is that CCP loves ganking and supports it in many ways. I'm particularly impressed at Jeremy for understanding and very smartly capitalizing on the fact that ganking isn't easy and gankers can be baited very easily.
    Whenever a Player say they hate hisec gankers because it's dishonorable, I simply have to stop myself and realize that they just don't understand what eve really is, what ccp wants it to be, and more importantly that they have intelligent options if they are even minimally aware of their surroundings. Gankers are doing players a true service by educating them. That's a fact.

    • @hikingphotog
      @hikingphotog  Před 26 dny

      I never even noticed the Alpha safety setting change, that helps for sure. I'm surprised they would have made that change with how much they've supported the ganking culture by minimizing any real hardship or penalties... "you are a criminal and you will be shot on site" actually means "go ahead and dock up and do all the business you want at the police station, we won't bother you one bit".
      While I do agree gankers have a potential to educate players, most players are oblivious to that education and don't learn anything. If the losses are large/often enough, they leave the game to never return and share their poor experience with friends who then don't even try it. Though I don't know if there's any real good solution to that either, just a byproduct of this particular in game career choice.

    • @bradb3245
      @bradb3245 Před 26 dny

      @@hikingphotog CCP does a terrible job of Educating new players. They eagerly learn how to go make isk a dozen different ways and ccp is good at that, but then they take their loot to Jita and lose it all. CCP should have a tutorial or some other introduction to Ganking for newbro's.

      @hikingphotog  Před 2 měsíci

      The only ones that don't scan cargo are generally the ones that hit the T2 Blockade Runners, as they are immune to cargo scans, but they usually ship scan to check for fitting.
      As for ship scanning for fit, there are a lot of gankers that don't bother with that because its not a reliable result. Sometimes you'll get no modules, sometimes you'll get the whole fit. And when you only have a brief moment to make the call to gank or not, a lot don't bother. Though you can play that to an advantage in tanking a fit but still include typical hauling mods like cargo expanders and agility mods, so that if the scan picks up that module and not your tank, they'll think you are ripe for picking.

The gank Nado's also only load 1 round into each gun, so even if they shot back, they only get 1 shot then the guns are empty. I also took most of the shiny off of the ship beforehand just incase things somehow went south. • @hikingphotog
      @hikingphotog  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Its all a matter of reading the situation and having the right fit. As shown in the video, and the previous video, most of these fits have more than enough ehp to take on a handful of Nados. If all you cared about was tank then you can get quite a lot of these haulers to 40, 50, 60k ehp without much effort. Which then means I'm not dying to 5 Nados. Maybe you didn't see how little those hits were actually doing to my overall hitpoints. The one, yes, I lost most of my shields, but it was an armor tank, so it was effectively barely a scratch.
      But even if you see a dozen Nados on station, you need to see what they are up to. If you see one with a 5.0 or 0.0 (0.0 means they have never shot an NPC and never committed a criminal action, ever) security status, they aren't ganking. If they are all clustered in an unusual spot and have the same corp/alliance tag, with other support ships with them from the same corp/alliance, probably a war camp. Then you've got a subset of the gankers that only target Blockade Runners and T3/faction cruisers, but I clump them in with another group, the ones that ship scan. Since the ones that ship scan in addition to cargo scan will see lack of cargo mods and a generous number of tank mods and then they unlock you and check the next guy.

High sec care bares hurt eve economy, you just hord stuff while never wanting to risk anything, therefore inflating prices because you never have to buy a second mod of what you never Lose.
      You should thank pirates for keeping your game alive, cheers.

      So you are saying that Null/Low keeps the whole economy running? Like mining and manufacturing? There's many different ways to play the game, some enjoy different parts of the game more than others, that doesn't make any particular way to play the game the wrong way to play. If Hi-Sec carebears are so dangerous to your livelihood, then just do it all yourself out in Low/Null on your own, cause you know how the game was intended to be played and then you would stick it to those guys and they wouldn't get your iskies. If all your friends did the same, then in theory they would have to leave Hi-Sec in order to be relevant, right?
      They always say the best way to vote or change any policy is to do so with your wallet, so just never buy anything from Hi-Sec ever again and then you're set.

I've seen them hit a lot of blinged out ships so I'm always curious what their baseline hit or don't hit limit is. Since a lot of blinged out ships have blinged out defenses. Also comes in handy to have bailout bookmarks straight through to the other side of the station to instawarp just in case.

      For this time around passive was picked because it's more believable from an auto-pilot standpoint. For regular travel/warp baiting, yeah, active fits are best. There isn't time for cap warfare to take effect in the few seconds the gank lasts.

    • @hikingphotog
      @hikingphotog  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Ah, yeah, most of my actual time spent playing was years ago. Since then they've come out with the Killmarks on ships (which I'm sad weren't retroactive) and they overhauled the new player experience significantly which included the new Activities Tracker (which also wasn't retroactive, I wish it was, I'd have a lot of rewards to claim). Heck up until a few months ago as far as the game was concerned I never minded or manufactured anything either.
      So you made the assumption that because the Activities Tracker popped up that I'd never done any PVP in the decade before they put that in game. After the POS's got switched for Citadels and most of our core group of shenanigan friends left the game my accounts have been Alpha more often then not, and you can't use a lot of the really fun stuff as an Alpha so I've been essentially lurking in EVE for the last few years. But there's also the killboards to show my carebear status as well, between our accounts, we've got a kill/loss total of 1600 kills (150b) and 60 losses (12b), just what I'd expect from your run of the mill carebear wouldn't you say?

    • @Taz6688
      @Taz6688 Před 2 měsíci

      If you mean the Air Activity tracker pop up, I have done loads of the requirements in the past but none show in the tracker, it would be possible to have hundreds of kills using ewar and still show none, don't know when that was brought in the game.

    Gankers are not - by definition - griefers. Ganking is supported gameplay in EVE online; griefing is forbidden and, when proved, sternly punished by CCP. I'm surprised this error slipped through the net. It isn't a matter of opinion; it's a matter of (CCP) fact. No offence intended.

    • @hikingphotog
      @hikingphotog  Před 2 měsíci

      I must disagree to an extent, as griefers primary purpose is to exploit and have fun at the expense of newer players (sounds an awful lot like certain types of gankers too). One of the main outcomes of griefing is that the players leave the game, which also happens to be a common outcome to newer players that get ganked. So no, I was not using the term in error in relation to these types of gankers. To each their own, tomato tamoto.

    • @hikingphotog
      @hikingphotog  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Which one are you? I'll be sure to give you a shot next time I see you. If I was worried about 3 Nado's I wouldn't be out there with 1b when there's half a dozen or more Nado's on grid. I think the thinnest fit hauler I have is 25k, which would only die to 3 Nado's if they all landed perfect hits. Most of my haulers are 40k+, with several at 60-70k easy. When I've got my account active on Omega, if I've got a lot of stuff to haul, I just use my Bustard with 200k ehp (400k if I overheat).
      Though one of the guys I recently baited won't cash in his measly 35m KR and won't undock in anything bigger than a Thrasher while the KR is still active, so its having a net positive for all those new players that might have been the next sealclubbing victim. Otherwise yeah, there are still too many new or under-experienced players out there that put way too much stuff in ships that are not fit properly.

      I will second fearless, the primary aspect of this video is a mechanic that has been part of the game for quite a while, the killrights. And I wasn't trying to explain killrights in this video, it was a followup to the previous video about how to bait the gankers and take advantage of the killright system.
      And ganking has been in the game since the beginning, but thankfully with the introduction of killrights at least the victims had some recourse. Its not just restricted to HiSec, you can get griefed and ganked all over the place, just in HiSec Concord will arrive shortly to apply punishment.
      Unless you were referring to the bits that everyone should know like autopiloting, passive tank modules, cargo/ship scanning, warping through gates, fitting for maximum tank/ehp, Omega/Alpha status, alpha Nados, daily tasks/quests...
      If everything in this video was that foreign to you after 20 years, I'd say you need to expand your ingame experience and knowledge of how the whole ecosystem works. After barely 5 years of game experience (we started in 2010) my brother and I had taken the time to understand most aspects of the game from industry, mining, scanning, missions, LP, factions, wormholes, hi-low-null sec, pve, pvp, the good old towers (the POS's, aka space sticks, before the new structures), wars, and everything that ties it all together.
      If you thought the commentary in this video was bad, you should go watch the first one... that was probably the cheapest microphone in existence and absolutely no audio filters applied in post. I'd love to hear what kind words you have for that one.
