Yes nothing says "I love you tamagotchi" as strapping it in a box and having a machine probe it for days! ;-)
Hahahaha, this made me laugh. Yes, exactly 😂
Dear god it's a reverse matrix
Tamagotchi came out when I was in high school - a friend ran a "baby sitting" service. She has now been replaced by technology!
Ahhh automation... Putting people out of business since you came along. 😂
Two things.
1. this would be an amazing feature on a streamer's HUD, letting chat interact with it to keep it alive
2. Digimon version when :D
1. YES! I will maybe do this in the future
2. Hahaha you're a Digimon fan, huh? :)
Tool assisted Tamagotchi playthrough with robots? Heck yes!
High five! ✋✋🏿🖐🏼🖐🏾
@@JensMakerAdventures you have a lot of hands sir🤚🤚🏿🤚🏼🤚🏾🦶🏽
Yes and you have one foot!
This is the kind of tech that we need more of.
Thanks! 😎

This is GREAT. Two things: about the death-by-snack, it seems to occur around day 3 or 4, so I would be interested in seeing you feed snacks to improve happiness from the beginning, not just starting at adult. Second thing, I would LOVE to see how long you could keep it alive; after a certain amount of days, the hearts start depleting faster and faster. I'd like to see the robot keep up! Please do a follow-up, for Tamagotchi science!
If tamagochies work like the digimons on the v pet is not that overfeeding kills them by itself, but if you collect too many mistakes or over feeds the digimon won't have any valid evolution conditions so instead it will just die
Hi Laurel, thanks for your input. You're right, there is much research left to do. The machine drove me a bit crazy after a while so I shut it off, so I didn't learn how old it could possibly get. Though I read max lifespans online and I think there exist people who are more care dedicated than even my robot haha. Also, could I somehow program it to get the special secret character?
@@JensMakerAdventures In theory, yes, but this requires breaking the rules so that you can find a way to pour through A LOT of code so you can run an emulator and have it virtually create the secret character.
Bro built a matrix pod for tamaagotchis
I actually considered putting clips grom the Matrix movies in the intro, but those scenes are SO dark (with the babies going into the machine) that I decided not to
@@JensMakerAdventures have you checked out sprite mods tamagotchi singularity? It's pretty neat
Yes, that was a cool project. All software, right? And then there's another project about open source hardware emulators, also really cool. I noticed that no one had done what I did so here we are 🤷
@@JensMakerAdventures all software yes, it'd be cool to see hardware version though :)
Yes, I should just make a farm with like 10 of these units running besides each other 😂 or use 1 camera and actuators set on rails so it can treat all instances of the tamagotchi. Now that Im writing this, that would actually be quite easy to build... Hmm. 🤔😂
Popped up randomly but I appreciate the effort for the video and the commitment, good stuff!
That's great to hear, thank you! 😃
Crazy stuff. You should boom on YT 🎉 wish you the best in your journey yo
Hey that's very kind of you. Thanks! 🤩🍀
This was fun to watch, a machine to feed a machine!
I'm always impressed on makers like you. A project like this touches so many fields, electronics, mechanics, programming and then also need to be filmed and edited in an enticing way.
It's a lot of work for one person! I'm subscribing!
Hi Jerico, first of all, thanks so much for this super kind write-up. It's nice to be appreciated and seen! I think a lot of people don't notice how many different skills this takes. So yes, it's very multi-domain demanding and actually I think that's why I love doing it the most! Again thanks for the message and your subscription. Hope you will also enjoy future content.
Just found your channel, loving all the effort you put into the video
Thanks so much 😊
Great Work Jens! NEVER stop it!!❤
Aaahhhh thanks, Daisy! 😃🎥🤖
What a great project! Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Subscribed.
Thank you for the kind words! 😃
This is absolutly amazing! Super cool project Jens!
Thanks Baselmans! 😃
Holy crap, thought you were a bigger CZcamsr until I started seeing the comments. This is a very impressive video for such a small channel! Can't wait to see your channel get favored by the algorithm and your subs to grow! You got one sub right here at the very least
Wow, thanks for your kind comment! 😃
Actually an amazing video... and project too lol. This checked all the boxes for my 90,z kid maker adventure checklist. liked, subscribed and commented for the algorithm brother. lets get this man to the TOP!
Wow, thanks so much for the support!
This was an amazing build! No idea how much time it mist have took to do this!

Cool channel!!! Subscribed. Really interesting project.
Hi Aaron, thanks for the kind words! 😃
This is very impressive
Glad to sub!

Not even 10k views. Wow man you deserve some more views and subs based on this quality
Wow, thanks a lot. For me the channel is blowing up now!! It tripled in size literally overnight, but it's kind that you think it deserves even more attention 😃
You did a good job, Jens! 🥳
Thank you!! ✨ And thanks for the sponsorship! 🍀

Bedankt! 😃
Great video! Criminal number of views!
Thanks! I'm actually very excited about the number of views so thanks for even now considering it a low number 😊
I don't know what's the more impressive, the work spend on this, or the fact that you manage to capture screen images even crappier than the ones in the manual XD
Nice project tho.
Hehehehe well.... I'll take that as a compliment 😂 Thanks also for the kind words and taking the time to comment 🙂
this is hilarious and adorable good work!
Thank you! 🎈
@@JensMakerAdventures the kill button could press the reset pin XD
That's a brilliant idea!!! 😮 We would just need a 4th servo and adjust the assembly a little.. 🤩
@@JensMakerAdventures another non conventional way is hook it up to the power supply and overvolt the living daylights out of the little guy
This is amazing!!
Thank you!
Men, you are absolutely my hero, I'm currently studing mechatronics and need a project for artificial vision, and this fits perfectly. You have inspired us, we are going to make you're projects, check all the boxes that our theacher asked (vision, actuators, sensors), don't worry we are not gonna steal your desing since we will buy a copycat tamagochi we might need to change the 3d models, and the code will be with arduino, but your video makes the perfect start point for us. Thank you so so so much
Hey, this was awesome to read! I studied mechatronics as well for my masters degree and it's just an amazing field! Love that you will take inspiration from my work! Leave a message anytime if you need some advice and thanks for the subscribe! Good luck :)
@@JensMakerAdventures I'll your offer for letting me ask questions, also when we end the project be sure I'll let you see it!
Sweet!
So unnecessary, I love this, great work!
Haha you're right... A care needing toy and a care supplying robot. Both unnecessary, especially when put together... 😂
Glad I found this channel, subscribed. Please show more code though!
Thanks for subscribing and commenting. 😊 Well you're asking the right questions. One of my biggest CZcams creative challenges right now is deciding what I do and don't show in the video. What excites me and what excites you guys... Your input is very welcome, thanks!
Lekker bezig! Goede content.

I hope this is a cool channel. I saw it was at 999 subs and couldn't help but take it to 1k...
Haha you did it dude! Thanks for getting me on 1k! 🍀Oh and yes the channel is super cool, don't worry
I did a Arduino controlled one with auto care but it did use wires soldered to the buttons (and lights for visual affects), i used it for twitch which worked well in the end but never kept it up long. with twitch i had to pre-program commands instead of just using single button commands as there were chat limits. I also didnt write in to watch the screen for stuff and just did the basics to keep it alive for auto care as my plan was to let the watchers really care for it outside of dying.
Haha that is awesome!! I also considered opening it up to Twitch and just letting the crowd control it! 🤩 Good job!
A sponsor! Congratuaalations! Very cute video!
Thank you!! I'm also really excited! 😃
Also, do I know you personally? 😂 I keep wondering who's behind this account haha, with the consistent commenting and all 😊

I love this, and was wondering about a machine like this, but for the digimon tamagotchis
I think it can be done for sure, just takes different sprites and programming 🤷
Are these the man made horrors beyond my imagination I was told about? Not quite what I was expecting…
Who told you about those horrors and why?
Random on my feed and now I must watch
Great 😌 keep watching please 😜
if i recall, the snack thing is not an instant "feed X snacks and they die". from how i remember it working is, they will die when they hit their evolution window. if you fed them X snacks before then, they will just die instead of evolving
Ahhhh so that's what it is
Excellent project, I've never played with machine learning much. Maybe your next project could be an inverse and have the tamagotchi control a robot based on what the camera sees on the screen
Thank you! Actually (maybe I should have put this in the video) I'm not sure if this qualifies as machine learning given that it's Pattern Matching with a threshold. Though I did consider using AI or ML to do the job, pattern matching seemed easier.
Your idea is fun, haha. Having the tamagotchi call the shots of an actual moving robot 😂
I remember having this same thought as a kid and how useful it would be for when I was at school.
If only the machine could also time travel...
All my respect for someone who use Freecad.
Thanks! Sometimes I feel I might miss out on some stuff in Fusion 360, but it's open, free and actually very powerful. 💪 Love how that's possible
Nice video you earnt a new subscriber
Thanks!
This is great! I love it, but i'd love it more if you tried it with a digimon device. the community has a thing called an A-Com. that allows you to interface with the connection pins on top, to do battles and Jogressing, so you could add features like battling via discord if someone sends you their battle code, along with the goal of raising all the digimon on the device by following the specific requirements for each evolution route. along with doing device specific things like the "quest mode" or "colosseum" some devices have. I personally recommend a Digimon X device if you do end up doing this as it has better features then the Version 20th that was released, both are readily available.
Hey, wow that also sounds like a cool project. I must admit that part of my motivation was that I loved Tamagotchi as a child and that there is no interface to connect to (or I didn't want to) making it also a mechanical electrical issue rather than only software.
This is very cool
Thank you!
Wow, that's an amazing build. In some way I think it beats your satisfying game. Beat the machine that tries to interrupt/interest you. Lovely!
Also can't get over the fact that you had to move the machine to different spots in your house. Were long extension cords involved or does it restore state reliable enough after a reboot?
Thank you! Yes, it's weird but the Tamagotchi has also now lost some of it's magic. Yes, kitchen, study room and central heating cabinet... Lol. Well, it can recover with a little bit of cheating 😂 some code adjustment and log file copying, hehe.
That was fun… I can confirm firsthand that the original versions could die when fed lots of snacks, don’t remember how much and also I know it works when just hatched, I was keeping my japanese ghost tamagotchi as a keyring to my beer opener… =)
Wow, that's interesting. Maybe I shod investigate more, I still have a bunch of the original versionsaying around. If enough people request it, I will test it 😁
If it helps, it’s a Japanese version I bought in 97. I thought it was hilarious because the European version would just turn into a grave but the japanese one would turn into a ghost and float around… ;)
Might be the newer version, the P2? I think this one turns into an angel if it dies
Couldn’t tell for sure, it’s somewhere at my parents’ place… ;)
I dug online and apparently I have a p1, the orange and yellow one
@1:10 "It's just an ECHGG, then, it becomes, a baybee."
Haha this made me laugh out loud 😂
Sinterklaas :)
Jaaaaaa
very cool! discipline usually should occur when the tamagotchi beeps when it doesnt need anything, so discipline per 10 minutes may vary with character. also the snack killing, is only with the ORIGINAL ORIGINAL tamagotchi, the ones released in the 90’s. the newer ones dont exactly die instantly with snacks, but after a while (maybe like 3 days?) they do die. i collect tamas so i know a thing or two :3
Wow thanks for these facts!! How many do you have?
@@JensMakerAdventures i own 13! virtual pets overall 21 i just got a new tama today (a gen 1 like yours in fact!)
@@sinfizz_ Ahhh I love a good collection, that's awesome! 😀
@@JensMakerAdventures thank you! im hoping they rerelease connections, with recent teasers they might.. your contraption might be handy to me as well, as i have yet to get mametchi on the p1s… also, snacks can kill tamagotchis in the baby stage on the GAMEBOY game as well! takes a couple minutes to do so but it can die from that, not sure about tamagotchi 2 on the gb though
@@sinfizz_ Cool, more rereleases is more better. Huh just a few minutes huh. I tried 257 snacks and it didn't happen... Interesting.
I’ve always been scared to feed my tama too many snacks. I am glad to know that I have nothing to worry about.
You're welcome!
Your a small chanle but i bet you will blow up this roboy is amazing and thats why you deserve it☺
Hi! Well that's a very kind thing to say, thanks a lot! 🤩
im surprised no one else has made this yet.
p.s. i’d be interested in a version made for higher maintenance versions, maybe the tamagotchi ocean or the chou jinsei enjoi tamagotchi plus (yes that’s the real name of one, and it’s notorious for being so difficult to micromanage that they eventually released an easier version of it)
I think it can be done however it just takes more time and tuning.
I think I only ever got 2 of the characters on mine back in the day. The main character, and the bottom (selfish) one. Had no idea there were more.
Hahaha I think I had the same. It's really hard to take good care of these toys, especially as a child
I wish I had this as child because then my mum wouldn't have washed and tumble dried my Tamagotchi, killing it brutally
I'm sorry for your loss 😖
I was born in 97 and my favourite was Connection.
Cool! I never tried that one, but it's cool that you can have them interact
Curious to know if you used a state machine in the programming ?
Hi, nice to see an in depth question. The code's actually available on GitHub but contains more crimes than most eyes could bear to see I think haha. I started out with using a statemachine, I even informed myself on the Python library for it, but it very quickly turned into using a boatload of IF statements with semi global variables haha... Though it worked very reliably. It's just not very maintainable or reusable. 🤷
I had a Dinogotchi (or whatever they called the dino version). Could not keep the thing alive :-(
I was terrible at keeping it alive as well 😬 got bored of it too quickly. To be fair, it's hard work. Maybe young you would have enjoyed this machine in his life haha
I would also love to see how you can automate that with an Arduino with soldering and directly reading out the display data
That would also be a really fun challenge!
Nice video you earnt yourself a new subscriber also remember me when you become famous
I will always remember you ❤️
It would be cool to make a version that could care for multiple Tamagotchi's by using a turntable.
Yeah I was thinking the same, you can just reuse the vision and servos
I'm glad the kill mode is a "kill your Tamagotchi" button and not a "kill humans with your Tamagotchi" button
Hahaha that's a wild idea 😂
I thought this was arms and legs for the Yamaguchi to walk around and feed itself
And take revenge on whoever fed it too many snacks?.. Maybe better to keep it strapped in there 😬
I had a G1 that went through the wash. Talk about trama. Always check your pockets people
Oooffffff... I heard that one a lot back in the day. I'm sorry for your loss 🪦
@JensMakerAdventures thank you❤️, 10 year old me sobbed a lot that day. I had it for less than a month
Oh poor 10 y/o you 😬 important age and one month so you probably hadn't grown tired of the toy yet

peking duckagotchi
Care Robot, or Life Support?
Good question 🤔 I'd go with care robot, since the Tamagotchi isn't really sick, right?
make a button that submerges the entire contraption underwater.
Good idea 😈
I was more curious to see the mini games get smashed. Sadly no games were smashed in the making of this video.
I have the feeling the mini game timing is random. I mean you can look but then you need a high speed vision system and that is not what this is. I must have tried 5 different timing offsets between button presses for the game but none of them was statistically better than winning 50 percent of games. 🤷
How much for the Waterboarding: Geneva Convention Edition DLC?
Hahahaha wtf dude 😂
Tamagotchi Childhood Trauma is the worst. it was dead every morning as I needed to sleep much.
You could pause it every night, did you know? Just set the time unset and it's on pause

REPRESENTING!!! ⚙️
But you are reading the screen feed of Tamagachi with a camera. I think, this second point phrasing need some modification to convey it's message clearly.
Maybe you're right, but mostly I meant that were not going to poke around with wires in the tamagotchi 😃
this is just a scene out of the matrix waiting to happen
Hahaha yes 😬 I almost edited a scene from the matrix in the video but it was too dark for the vibe
2:12 I'm struggling to understand/believe this. You show one as a block, and one with the removed areas. The one with removed parts absolutely has a smaller volume, so how can it possibly use "just as much plastic"?
I'll grant you that it has more surface area, but that's not how much plastic you're using, volume is.
Edit: Spelling
I just realised, is this to do with the fact that the print isn't solid? So you're swapping something like honeycombing for solid walls? I don't own a 3d printer, I am speculating. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes, my explanation was super short in the video, but you are right in your second comment. In 3D printing you can choose how much you fill up your infill, typical percentages are 20% but 5% is also possible. But walls are solid, so a wall can take a lot more material than some volume. Weird, huh? 🤔
This is giving me big PAL PERCY vibes😭
I looked it up and I get that!

Tamagotchi now needs anti cheat
Yes, I think they should put in a camera or something to determine whether it's a robot or human who is operating it 😜

snacks could kill them in the gameboy edition of the game im pretty sure
Ohh was that game any fun?
Hm. I wonder if something similar could be done for a digimon
Absolutely :) Just takes different sprites and logic...
@@JensMakerAdventures I suppose so, but how would it manage things like the battling system? With a 20th anniversary digivice, it'd need to know how to button mash, which it might be fast enough for, or with something like a digivice X it would need to have the correct timing in order to attack at its peak. And I believe 3 battle losses in a day can kill a digimon, similar to overfeeding snacks (which I saw you learned how they effect tamagotchi in a previous comment). Not to mention the complexity of possibly raising two digimon on a single digivice with the 20 anniversary
Haha well I was presumptuous, my bad. Yes, that would be challenging then indeed!
