- President Joe Biden has defended the right to free speech but says “order must prevail” on college campuses.
After weeks of pro-Palestinian protests escalating in universities across the United States, President Joe Biden addressed the nation Thursday, underscoring that the right to free speech and the rule of law must both be upheld.
“Order must prevail,” he said from the White House, even as he stressed that dissent is “essential for democracy.
“We are not an authoritarian nation where we silence people or squash dissent,” he said. “The American people are heard. In fact, peaceful protest is in the best tradition of how Americans respond to consequential issues.”
Biden said he does not support calls by some Republican lawmakers including House Speaker Mike Johnson to send in the National Guard to quell protests.

IMO, in US, the protests are usually peaceful and maybe a bit noisy with lots of slogans shoutings ..... and yet they have to encounter and suffer such unwarranted and excessive police brutality.
Whereas, in Hong Kong, for 2 years (from Yr 2019 to 2021), there were violent and riotous protests, every day, 24/7, for a period of 2 years (and mind you, those riotous protestors received 100% support & encouragement from the human rights activists and the US Congress too) .... and yet, the Hong Kong security and police force were able to handle those riotous protestors (with care and understanding) in an authoritative manner but no bullying and manhandling.
The HK security and police force had shown to the world at large what is the true meaning of police professionalism .... 👍👍!!

Take a look everyone, this is what an American looks like: no actual moral conviction, and no core values except an inability to distinguish between social order and moral good. Believes he is enlightened, and that the manifest evils of society are just inconveniences to that enlightenment, to be dealt with later, when we feel like it. Thinks they're upset at the violence and destruction, but actually just worships peace and quiet.
