- Welcome to a week of interesting things that includes Morris Dancing, folk costumes, and meeting one of my heroes - the artist ROGER DEAN.
It all began at dawn on May Day when I utterly failed to record the Whitchurch Morris team dancing in the summer. I then spent the evening at a Beltane celebration with a local pagan group of witches, shamans and astrologers. They're a lovely crowd - a lot like the Women's Institute but with more pentagrams. Great cake too.
Then, a couple of days later, I ventured into London to see the MAKING MORE MISCHIEF folk costume exhibition at the London College of Fashion in Stratford. It's situated in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park which was built for the event in 2012.
Then it was back into central London and a visit to the Ubicua Gallery in Fitzrovia and a meeting with ROGER DEAN. Roger was a powerhouse of iconic vinyl LP sleeve design throughout the 1970s and 1980s, producing covers for bands like Asia, Greenslade, Osibisa, Budgie and, in particular, YES. He was a major influence on me as a teenage artist and I've had a copy of his first book - VIEWS - for 48 years. Today, he kindly agreed to sign it. They say 'Never meet your heroes' but I'm glad I did. He's a charming, friendly and intelligent guy. And a great artist. We chatted for ages.

You brave soul
Meeting with Morris dancers
Amazin
Really happy you were able to get your book signed!!!
Me too!
I went to the winter solstice to laugh at the bagpipers and next thing you know Colganology makes in video in which he either mentions or visits every place i visited since. London, Hackney, Minehead, Buckinghamshire, Olympic Park, Tottenham court road...i feel like there is some ritual i need to perform, widdershins three times around Roger Dean perhaps. Amazing video!
Ha ha! Not a stalker. Honest!
Oh my goodness Roger Dean I have all his books how fantastic!!! Him Rodney Matthews, John Howe, Alan Lee and who can forget Brian Froud!!!!!
It was a genuine treat 😃
I love that book. As an Aussie kid it terrified me. I never wanted to go to the UK.
When it comes to morris dancers, I can't unthink of that Blackadder episode.
Ha! It's a very different thing these days - more women than men and incredibly creative. I watched a Goth Morris side dancing to The Cure a while ago :)
congratulations
A fantastic achievement!
I have the distinct impression that Morris Dancing was the inspiration for Monty Python's fish slapping dance. 😆
I strive to be like you when I'm older!
Just keep asking questions and looking for the joy that's everywhere - it can be easy to lose sight of it when we are bombarded with negative news all the time.
these videos are always so much fun! thank you for sharing ❤
The dawn was gorgeous! (nice pocket lint as well...!) I would have loved to have gone to the gathering, nothing like that where I live unfortunately. I could see myself dressing in some of those costumes on a daily basis. Thanks so much for these wonderful videos!
6:50 i would visit britain just for that
Roger Dean's art is synonymous with progressive rock! No offence to other greats like Hipgnosis or Paul Whitehead.
May the 4th be with you guys
Babe wake up, colganology learned how to clickbait
Ha!
Roger Dean... He's the guy who did the game art for 'Shadow of the Beast' if I recall rightly.
New viewer to your videos and I find them so wonderful! Thank you for sharing your experiences and creations.
i love your videos! they're always so whimsical
This video is brilliant, glad I stumbled across your channel today. Looks like I have quite a backlog of interesting content to catch up on.
Good day 😊❤
Howdy!
Hello
Hello!
Well I'm not pagan, but I would like to go to one of these events one day. I'm glad proper art isn't dead. Modern art is terrible, at best.
Modern paganism is very welcoming - you're not required to believe any particular doctrine or follow any set rules. It's all about respecting the planet and each other. Not a bad message :)
