      It is the same for the peyote i would use a pereskiopsis spathula. Which commony used to graft because it grows fast.

    This is the Method I've used ever since watching this video. Nearly 100% success, I can tell if it's bad within 24 hours of putting the Scion on. A bad connection usually starts flaring for me within a day. I live in a very dry Environment so they heal fast.

    This is really helpful, thanks! Can I ask, if I am using Pilocereus as a stock plant and it has good healthy roots but is not potted up, could I graft before potting it up or should I pot it up first? My instinct is that I could do it before potting up but I haven't done too much grafting so I'm not sure😂

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants  Před 2 lety +1

      You can graft before or after the stock has roots. I prefer after the plant has roots so I have some leverage to put the rubber bands on, but many ppl do graft before the stock has roots

  • @TheMartingalindo
    @TheMartingalindo Před rokem

    So for the last scion do you layer the rings directly over or like the Olympic rings?

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants  Před rokem

      I'm not sure what you mean by the last scion. The last scion I use in the video? Either way, the rings always have to overlap (like the Olympic rings). It doesn't work trying to connect them, although that is the instictive thing to do. I always give the analogy of trying to connect two straws, it never works.

    Thank you for your tutorial, best one so far. Question, I’ve seen some people do a cactus graft with a tiny piece of cactus and not the growing tip. Why do people do that and are there benefits to it?

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants  Před 5 lety

      They're likely just trying to get as many grafts as possible for their efforts so they took apart the cactus in order to do so :)

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants  Před 5 lety

      It's generally harder to hold down a larger piece. I personally prefer to cut off just the very tip of plants to graft. That way the mother plant has plenty of photosynthetic material to produce more pups for you, and since you're grafting its going to get big fast anyway so I feel using a larger piece to begin with sort of defeats the purpose. :)

    The Root stock, Does it has to be that long?

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants  Před 4 lety +2

      Good question. The rootstock can really be any length, but I have noticed that the larger the stock, the quicker the growth. They tend to top out in growth speed at around 3 ft when potted though. I recently grafted a tip of the renowned bridgesii "CSD" to a 7 ft tall PC pachanoi :) :)

    What is the vascular bundle?

    • @IdiotAmigo
      @IdiotAmigo Před 5 lety +1

      It's the main connection between the rootstock and scion, basically what transmits nutrients from the base to the scion. You can see it as a spot in the middle of the stock if you cut off the top.

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants  Před 5 lety

      Nick covered this, but yes. Think vascular = veins for plants. The vascular rings should overlap, similar to how the olympic rings look.
