His transition from a loyal, decorated Roman soldier to his original germanic barbarian roots was very well executed. One of the reasons the series was well received by viewers.
in the real story arminius had another brother who grew with an adopted "Roman General father" like arminius and who fought him back from the roman side. the season 2 is going to be amazing.

Season 2 will probably end with the battle of Idistaviso. Where Germanicus wins.
Segestes had to die, unfortunately the story didn't happen that way
Nonsense. Arminius did hold his ground against Germanicus, who lost tenthousends of warriors during his campaigns. Yes, he won some skirmishes but nothing in comparison to Teutoburg Forest. Arminius won the war.

As would Spartacus, who came just as close
@AzraeL Its not about open battle or recreation of same history and achievement from another great public figure.
@@chrisanduncensoredjapan6627 as a matter a fact Spartacus had nothing to do with Hannibal Barca, the only thing they had in common is that they fought agaisnt romans and where ultimately defeated, thats it. Hannibal Barca was a formidable general that theatened the Roman Republic during almost his entire career, he fought and won against impossible odds, not only numerical, the Roman army was far more disciplined and with a more homogenic militar sctructure (making it easier to plan a strategy) and the Cartaginian army was heterogenic made of mercenaries and tribes, far more dificult to command. Spartacus was basicaly a slave that rebeld and threatened the Romans by the force of numbers, they where poorly trained, almost with no equipment and the reason the rebelion lasted was just because the Roman Senate did not take it seriously at first. Spartacus had at his command about 80 000 man, an immense force at the time.
Hannibal was Mediterranean and not a barbarian.
@@cogeunlibro9312 Barbarian is just a therm that Romans used to define people from other nations, does not correspond to any gender or nation in particular. The Carthaginians where barbarians to Romans
Gives me goosebumps..... The German spirit cannot be conquered, tamed or enslaved....
Germans were lucky the allies didn't bomb the shit out of them after ww2
look at the modern germans, mate. they are fucking slaves )))
Obviously. Arminius is Germany's greatest hero while his father in law Segestus who sold out
to Rome remains Germany's biggest traitor historically.
History is proof for that.
Everything I know about battle...I learned from you.
--
What do we fight for?
I often asked you that.
Some fight for what used to be.
And others for what is to come.
Or for love
We fight for honor.
We fight for glory.
We fight for our freedom.
Some fight for their children.
Still others fight for their gods.
The key thing is that we can only win
if we're in complete control of our emotions.
If we have a crystal-clear strategy.
You must maintain order in your ranking while destroying that of the enemy.
Whatever we fight for...we pay the price in blood.
We all die...the guilty...and the innocent.
And when all is lost...you still need the help of the gods.
Your impregnable armor became your largest burden.
But the most important thing...is to recognize your enemy's greatest weakness.
And bring all your strengt down on this point.
-Take my armor.
Are you sure, Dominus?
You are a free man. Get out of here.
And your biggest weakness...was your trust in me.
I ask my self...What were you fighting for?
And was it worth it?
Pater...
PATER!!!
You never understood...
that we might want a different life than you.
To believe differently, feel differently, and think differently than you.
yes but they still lost the war, the Romans won them
The Marcomanni Wars (known in modern records as the German War - belllum Germanicum - or German Expedition - expeditio Germanica) is the name for a series of related armed conflicts between the Roman Empire on the one hand, and an alliance of mostly Germanic tribes led by the Marcomanni and Quads on the other. which ran from 166 to 180. Their main scene was the upper and middle reaches of the Danube, ie the then northern border of the Empire, which the Romans sought to secure from the increasingly frequent and massive incursions into the depths of Roman territory. The wars ended with the Roman victory and the relative stabilization of the border, but only after a long and exhausting struggle which showed the numerous weaknesses of the Empire, which would become even more pronounced in later periods.
@@ilijanikolic4364 The Romans may have defeated Hannibal, Spartacus, Arminius.. but in the end the entire Empire still collapsed. What these legends started eventually paid off. They were the catalyst for the fall of the Roman Empire.
Especially Spartacus and Arminius. They proved that no one should be a slave. Everyone deserves liberty and freedom.
@@bolg892 Don’t continue to be a pawn of the Romans! Be a pawn of “insert other civilization”!
The series is perfect! The Romans speak Old Latin, the Germans speak German. The only thing I don't like is that the betrayal goes unpunished. That German betrayed them 3-4 times and passed unpunished and I expected his head on the spear, as well as the head of the chief who gave up the fight at the last minute and then came back when he saw that the Romans were defeated!
They were punished the Germans took over rome and sacked it 3 times then took it over for the next thousand years with Charlemagne the Germans ruled rome for 1000 years they called it the "holy roman empire" it was really called "The holy roman empire of Germans" they changed the name on the school books but the world knows the truth. The romans made the River Rhine there border out of fear. The Germans made no borders .....

Except. Arminius is Real
I even like how his Roman mentor seems well meaning enough.
His “stay in Germany” never seems truly evil, he to a certain extent believes that Ari would be happier in Germany where he came from. There’s a strange kindness, the act feels detached rather than truly evil

Loved this! It was a surprise...
ARMINIUS, a Cherus Caudillo who was taken to Rome to be raised as a Roman, when he returned he decided to observe how the Romans mistreated their people, and despite being a soldier in the service of Rome, he decided to return to his origins, according to the history guided the Legions of General Quintilo Varus to the Teutoburg Forest, where they fell into an ambush, being attacked by 15,000 Germanic warriors who attacked 20,000 Roman soldiers that made up three legions, which were annihilated
I admire this character and am glad that they brought him to the small screen as a series
In the same way that did Lucius Artorius Castus
in the 2nd century. a Roman military commander. He commanded the Legio III Gallica, Legio VI Ferrata, Primus Pilus of Legio V Macedonica, Legio II Adiutrix, and he was prefect of the Legio VI Victrix and ships in Miseno.
He was a vile barbarian that betrayed the empire which gave him everything, stop making a hero out of him

wow wow wow MAGIC ❤❤
The series is well received by the audiences around the world and I like the fact, that Germany was able to produce such a series and inform Germans and the rest of the world about an important part of the German history.
That said:
They took many unhistorical "artistic liberties" in this series.
One of the largest mistakes in this series is for me, that they reduced the (in reality) massive end-battle to a relative small appearing incident in the series, that was over in the series after one short day...or even after a few hours.
In Reality the Roman troops were stretched out for over 15 kilometers and were ambushed in a kind of guerilla warfare over a timespan of THREE komplete days!
It is rather disappointing, that the makers of the series felt the need to do that. It would have been relative easy to give the audience the correct historical informations about that battle in an entertaining manner without changing the real historical events in that massive manner.
The use of the fire trenches is pure fiction. Never happened that way, that is for sure.
The resting of the Roman swords on top of the shields is pure fantasy, too. God knows, why the makers of this series felt the need to bring in such little, annoying historical inaccuracies, despite they had the support of a full team of history experts for this series.
Alright folks, just to once more break down the obvious for y'all. It´s not "Germany", that produced this series, it was a German studio. Ever heard of the private sector in economy? Gawd...
To inform what? Roman literature brought this even to our times, not Germany or those barbarians.

Right. But apart from that: You are not the sharpest tool in the shed, are you? 🙄
@@elwray3506
That is true and that was, what I meant with saying simply "Germany". But to comprehend that you would have to be intelligent. Not overly intelligent. I mean the basic level of common intelligence.
@@megatwingo a part for that what? I just wrote that and it's right. Insulting cause u mad? Are you trying to say that Germans don't study that at school when it's literally one of the 3 things that happened there before the 1800?
Very good
This is an amazing series that shows the transition of Arminius from a loyal Roman commander to a traitor. Both Germania and Roman characters are three-dimensional in which you can empathize with both sides. The final battle scene was heart-wrenching to watch as Arminius has to come to grips with his treasonous act against Rome. I look forward to the continuation of the series.
One man's hero is another man's traitor. One man's tool is another man's weapon.
The real traitor was Segustus. He copped out to the Roman Empire. That's why his name goes down in history with dishonor.

A pledge for peace; became oaths for war, as always.
Surprised there isn’t a clip of Thusnelda’s speech in episode 5. Sublime
I will argue that the show should have been named Arminius
Incredible series. My favourite character is his Roman Father and his “Barbarista Germania” comments in Latin.
Awasome, how do u have all scenes? :)
Salve Vater :D ! Priceless!
Incontinens!!
Did Arminius actually participate in fighting during the battle? As far as I know, he stood back in the forest with his reserves, organizing and commanding
He led a cavalry charge at the Roman van guard
This is awesome but it needs more Varus falling on sword
why?
Season 2, if it comes, is all about the revenge of Rome.
Things don’t end well for Arminius or Thusnelda.
But they did undeniably keep Germany out of Rome’s orbit. After their vengeance campaigns, Rome didn’t try to annex Germany again.
Rome wanted the region to secure a more defensible frontier on the Elbe river.
Teutoburg forest changed that. The longer Rhine frontier stayed, behind which the non Romanised tribes - as a result of the battle - began to encroach.
Arguably Arminius caused the fall of the Roman Empire, long-term.
Who knows what would have happened without him? I reckon Rome would have conquered Europe completely and might even have endured for many more centuries without the instability Arminius brought over them. A larger empire would mean more resources and people to defend themselves against the huns, and there would be no migration period because the tribes that caused it wouldn't exist. I am pretty sure Germanic languages wouldn't exist anymore, either. Instead of Europe, we'd have Rome.
@@leysont
Rome collapsed inside out. Decadence and arrogance brought down every empire in history.
Season 2 will probably be Germanicus Revenge for Rome, and maybe Flavius (Arminius' Brother) will show up too supporting Germanicus.
@@BewareOfTheKraut Would it have been as instable as it was if it had conquered Europe? I think it might have turned out very differently.

As a response to Teuteburg, the new emperor Tiberius sends the commander Germanicus(accompanied by Arminius' younger brother Flavus a toddler Caligula) to deal with Arminius. Germanicus defeats Arminius in battle several times, kidnaps a pregnant Thusnelda, and takes back the eagle standards that they lost.
