My mum was worried about a rattling noise in the washing machine and called me. I’m not an appliance tech. I listened and reckoned it was coming from the rear of the machine. I did just what you did, opened the pump housing and that was when the penny dropped. It was a one penny coin.
Of course I knew about the bottom filter, but not anything about the coin catcher 😮! You learn something new EVERY day 😂. Thanks for the above advice ❤
Some people ditch their machine on the street for a filter issue. We collect them, empty the filter and resell them. So thank you very much for the free goods, we take great care of them and they have a second life 😎
People obviously wasn't brought up correctly. I've always emptied my pockets when i get home and then I check pockets before they go on washer. It's so easy, I think people are just lazy.
A little time and mess saving tip... locking forceps on the sump hose, stops all the water getting to the filter allowing you to open it, clear the blockage, filter back in. Job done 👍🏼

The little ribbon probably couldn't be helped but now you all see why washing machine have a label that tells you to make sure you remove all coins, clips, screws and pins etcetera from your pockets before loading the machine.

I used the manual of my fridge/freezer to change the side the door swings, fucking useless that. Only showed the way to change the model without a freezer compartment. Pictures had less pixels tham a a super mario NES sprite. No clue what they were supposed to mean.
A cautionary note, be careful when squeezing the sump hose, I've been caught out a couple of times by needles trapped in the hose and they come straight through when you squeeze. I always reminded the customer that coins etc. can become trapped between the tub and drum then destroy both on spin. Great vids, keep them coming 🖖
I had a £2 coin wedged in there tight it was exactly tge same diameter as the pipe leading to the impeller luckily I got it out and I had to remind the wife and kids to always check their pockets for lose change. Great tip with the boards you placed under the machine to move it 👍
I used to repair commercial machines had so many pump jams sometimes they would burn out the pump motor or damage the impeller to the point it was ineffient. In the end i used a endoscope and three jaw flexible grabs removed 80 percent of them without large scale pump dissassembly and could check impeller for sever damage requiring pump replacement. Love those slides great idea.
We have a Vax wet & dry vac. Was invaluable for sucking all the water out of our old Hotpoint washer when the pump would get blocked. Would stick the washer drain hose on the vac hose and suck. No mess.

Make sure power is on, select time, close door, PUSH DOOR BUTTON IN, dryer turns on. Customer renting the place was amazed every time 😂😅
I did this on mine, it flooded so much, I couldn’t believe how much came out!!! but I didn’t know about tipping it up and putting a bucket under it, I wouldn’t have attempted that so I just got my kids on standby with towels and mops lol
I've repaired a few washing machines in my time: Biggest reason for the water not draining? The wires from bras jamming the pump. Shame those wires did not record the sights they must have seen over the years.......
My washer and dryer are on a 4" concrete plinth due to previous attempts to empty machines using buckets, bowls and even the toast tray from my oven to catch water. Now the drain is plenty high enough should it block. Mine don't need to line up with other kitchen/utility room units. It's incredible that no manufacturer had been able to redesign the drum and pump height to resolve this this issue as most machines are floor standing.
at least 3 or 4 calls over 10 are blocked pumps... the worst is when the you get no water from the filter cause you have a sock or similar stuck on the sump...

Your selling one for a ,£1000 cash . U charge her £50 ,,to take old machine away then sell it for £200...happy days..given good service and made a days pay..
I always check pockets. Not because I don't want to lose £1 etc but because I hate cleaning out the machine of forgotten tissues that go everywhere and means I have to re wash the load.
Hotpoint made to break down so repair crew comes out to fix it ,,if you have insurance fine if you don’t ,,,get it or get rid now ,,because it is going to cost you at least £100 for a washer that cost £300 ,,now 400 in total,, and that’s just the first break down with more to come get a Bosch it’s the same price as the hotpoint without the problems £600 or less and last donkeys years
It’s a monumental flaw in washing machines that this critical access is located in a place where - for 99% of all people - it can only be used to flood the room. There probably isn’t really an easy solution, though. A good reminder to never put the washing machine directly on the floor.
I did similar to this myself a few weeks ago, washer wasn't draining or spinning, just filling with water. my son had crap in his pockets and blocked the little fan in the filter with a tiny pin. 🙄. No issues since.
Lost my curb chain other day, Found it in the filter of my machine. Lucky it didn’t flow away with the water! But it didn’t stop my machine from working ?? Also pulled out 12£in coins and countless nails/screws cause my other half forgets to empty his pockets. Still worked with all that in it. Crazy that a bit of ribbon stopped this one 😂
Some people are so careless when they put the clothes in the machine without checking pockets then they cry when the machine bakes down or call the machine junk after being abused.

The good old days. Most wm had coin catchers, 8 calls a day for similar problems earned me a breakfast the next day. Customers rarely wanted the money back out of the sumps as it usually smelled quite bad.
Had a old mechanical timer that was broken, washer was full and boss was upset that I didn’t have a pump. I was like not problem and manually bridged the controller to activate the pump to drain the water.
Always have a water vac to control water. If you don't have. Sliders, just spray some polish or something lubricant on under the machine legs to pull machine out smoothly. Always check waste a d supply pipes are long enough or disconnected to allow full withdrawal
Word of advice these sliders aren’t very any good on heavy machines like Miele. What you need is Alteo Whiterock - polypropylene board and cut to standard size of washing machine, then just cut out holes for ur hand to fit through. It gives you some much more control and moving power.

Can I ask why you don’t just put the wet back on the drain hose of the washing machine? Sometimes you can get lucky and it will suck the blockage straight through and it’s easier to drain the water that way.

Put your drain hose to ground level, preferably out the back door and that will drain it down too.
