This is going to stick in my brain, I’ve never laughed so much at a poem😂😂
Who thought to use this poem for GCSE students like obv we have knowledge of such things but still. I find it quite disturbing 🤔😕
Hey there , my personal opinion of this poem is that he feels so guilty about this sexual act not because it restricted, but because he had it with a man, as sexual acts were okay before the Victorian era but lgbt was not permitted at all therefore he makes it seem obvious that its a woman and the losing of virginity with a woman so his sexual act with a man (from the description of the huge peak that he saw) would not be found out therefore thats y he feels extremely guilty. However incest is quite clear too
8:22 Mr salles you have no idea how long I've been laughing at the way you said this LOOOOL IM DYINGGGG
This was my favorite video ever ! I was so skeptical but it is a really plausible point
Thank you sm for this! I feel like if i can practice writing abt this well itll be really good because i dont think many will write about this. So hopefully it sets my essay apart
r u a teruhashi fan?
very interesting interpretation to say the least mr salles
This is exactly how I interpreted this poem to begin with, without all the historical context though. Very interesting dual interpretation, reminds me of Poppies.
An interesting comparison
there’s no way we could include this in the exam? power? conflict? how?
internal conflict
Good interpretation..but how would this fit in with the question? For exanple, the question could ask for the power of nature, but how would this be relevent?
JLH_UK Nature is to be worshipped, through pantheism and romanticism. Prohibition against sex outside marriage would therefore be seen as a product of the church and social convention, going against what is natural, which romanticism tries to change.
@@MrSallesTeachesEnglishwhat porm couldbi compare this to can i comp w storm on island?
Hello sir, currently doing my revision but I'm just a little confused - can this interpretation be used for power and conflict? Just uncertain, but this is very good nonetheless (like all of your videos)
Thanks for the video !! would this interpretation be okay to write about in the exam as i was talking to my english teacher about this interpretation and she said it was not necessary even though i was able to link it to the question
Yes, it would be fine
hi would you mentions the quotes from his sister or would you be able to explain it withour having to learn any quotes from his sisters notebook?
Yes, you don't need to quote his sister
good interpretation, just would never know how to use this for my argument about power and conflict 😂
nice pfp

Couldn’t it be internal conflict between societal pressure - for example, religion and our duty to suppress unholy feelings - and what the mind actually wants. Sort of like a psychomachia, when the soul and the brain want different things, which would explain why the message is kind of hidden within the poem. Idk though
What themes in other poems could you tie this in with? Could the link be the other romantic poets like Browning?
nature related like exposure or storm on the island
oh my god
No, it's just me, mr Salles
@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish that was most definitely a dad joke
That’s also Gods name in vain, and Gods name should be capitalised
@@vic24s03 God's name is Yahweh, not God
@@jeremydumanski7584 that’s not true, the name Yahweh is another name for God no? All names for God that are said in context like that is automatically in Gods name in vain
Would you seriously encourage us to write about this in an exam??
Only if you felt able to argue the case persuasively - if it makes you uncomfortable, or you are not clear about how to sequence your argument, then no.
oh my good the drama
salles mate i love u to bits but this poem analysis is a little sus
Very kind. It might sound odd, but check out the history and you'll find it is widely understood.
Don’t disrespect general kenobi, mr Salles analysis will secure the grade 9!
Would commenting about incest be the smart thing to do considering it is a gcse exam?
I really don’t know - any examiner is a lottery. The accuracy of English grades is 50%
what are you talking about
.
👌
hell no
i really hope this doesn't come up i don't want to write about this 😭
lol😂
I hope it’s about war and it’s effects or like power
