    I would like to know what happens when you're disabled and you reach social security retirement age. Does your disability transfer to retirement, and if so, does social security income go up or down?

    • @Abouezili
      @Abouezili Před 4 měsíci

      I would also like to know this. Also, can you apply to SSDi after retirement? My mom had a stroke after she retired. Her retirement income was low because she only worked later in life due to being a housewife. She now gets $940 a month with her SSA & SSI combined but that's not even enough for her apartment payment. Can she apply to SSDI for further help moneywise?

      Hello, in brief, your monthly Disability
      payment amount is the same as your full retirement $ amount. So, if you remain on disability till you reach full retirement age, you will be transferred to retirement at the same $ amount. So, it is important to keep up on medical visits and documenting limitations all the way thru your 60s bc it is common for people to get reviewed. If you get knocked off Disability for whatever reason after you reach early retirement age then you can transfer to early retirement and you will draw out retirement payments at that lower, early, level. I was born in the mid 60s and my full retirement age is 67, my early age is 62.5. Hope this helped!

      @@Abouezili Hello, I wrote a separate comment in hopes of answering the OP (Original Poster). Please see.
      To answer your next item, shortly, no. Sorry. If someone is at or past their full retirement age, they cannot apply for disability. They are on their monthly and that is it. If your mother is okder than Early Retirement age and younger than full retirement age (avail by querying internet or visiting SSA website if you or she don't already know) I suppose it us conceivable she coukd apply for Disability and eventually win and be paid at the full retirement age $ level. See my comment about disability monthly payment $ amounts equaling full retirement $ amounts. For better or worse, Disability, like retirement, is largely based on work history and paying taxes into the system. Beyond thus tho you might want to look in your local area for senior resources. Or sign up for Brian's disability assistance membership so you can get tailored advice to your situation. I hope this helps a little. I had an aunt who was a home economist, never worked outside the home, and she was able to get a small amount for herself but the big slice was from my uncle after he died, widow benefits, and also he was a union aircraft mechanic and his pension carried them snd then her. You did not mention if your mother has any kind of similar situation but I would be out if my knowledge and again would say to try to find in person advice. Local senior centers often have times of year where experts go in and offer free legal and or tax advice. Good luck.

    Now at 70% any thought on how much longer I'm in Ohio the estimated this taking 4 month for the medical and on Feb 23th it was 4 month it such a long wait when you have no money coming in. IS the anyway I can fast track this?

    • @rhobot75
      @rhobot75 Před 2 měsíci

      No, unfortunately not. What I might do meanwhile, given I mighy be denied my first time applying, I might look around for a Disability Representative, good reviews etc, that way IF I am denied I am ready to retain their services. And they dont get paid unless you do, it is bot a rip off. And I was not made of money but it was so worth for me for a professional to complile my documents and then represent me to the disability judge.
      It might tho still be a few months before you get a decision, if you have not by now. Good luck!

    I am new to the Disability Digest. Thank you for all the helpful information. I have one concern when you mentioned AI. I am 68 years old. I was born with Spina Bifida and use a wheelchair exclusively. I am single and live in a terrace level apartment at my parents house. I am trying to help my parents with understanding all the changes going on. While technology is a wonderful thing - sometimes - it can be VERY confusing and frustrating for older adults. I am just asking to think before you start getting too technical with things that you alienate your audience because of their age and diminishing cognitive skills. Thank you for listening.

    So, what does it mean then it mean when your up date says "On February 7, 2024, a representative in My local area started a final review to make sure that you still meet the non-medical requirements for Disability Benefits."?

    • @rhobot75
      @rhobot75 Před 2 měsíci

      Exactly what is says. You may want to be making a list of all your doctor visits in at least the last 12 months, medications, etc bc SSA is going to need to contact everyone, docs, therapists, pharmacies, to obtain your records. But you have probably received further instructions by now. Good luck.

    Can anyone tell me if severe cervical stenosis and severe fominal (spelled wrong) stenosis would have a chance of approval? I meet with neurosurgeon soon but really not sure about surgery but don’t know if I’d have a chance without surgery.

    • @rhobot75
      @rhobot75 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Sure, but the true key is conveying your limitations in relation to working. That is really all that matters, not any particular diagnosis. Make sure when you go to the doctors you are ready to be a broken record and keep repeating how your conditions limit you in a work setting or doing things at home. Find a pain chart online so you can say things like "I wake up and the pain is Level X but after standing ten minutes and also using arms to wash dishes tge pain goes up to Level X. Keep a diary. There are forms online for this. Good luck.

    • @rhobot75
      @rhobot75 Před 2 měsíci

      For your initial application, could be several months. As I was just saying to another commenter, if you are waiting on your initial application to be approved or denied, which a good chunk are denied first, I might suggest looking around in your area for a reputable Disability Representative. I was denied and had to appeal. They put together my file in the correct way, and completed the whole process, and went to court. They do not get paid unless and until you do. It us a modest percentage and, I felt, very well worth it. Hope you just get approved but since you are waiting, there is no harm looking around and then being ready.

      Brian would say to go to the Description section of any of his videos and find the link to join the Disability Digest organization. Once you are enrolled someone will be able to get into the details with you. What you said about your attorney is puzzling bc if you did retain a Disability Representative they don't get paid until you do. They have an incentive to get your case approved, and if denied to get your Appeal in front of the judge. Best wishes to you.

    • @rhobot75
      @rhobot75 Před 2 měsíci +1

      That is so specific. You would want to go to your local SSA office and ask them. Basically he wants to know if welfare benefits might be available. This said, SSA won't be punitive about it but if I were your dad, I would brace for a review. Go to his PCP and talk about limitations to get his file current, basically not choose now to slack off on the disability game. Keep the diary, stay engaged with the medical system, keep a calendar, be organised about expenses etc. Good luck.
