  • Winter is coming!
    I decided to go ahead and change both front wings due to rust.
    In this video I drill out all the spot welds, and fix what needs fixing!

    Throw the plastic guards on and when you get fed up with them you can fit the metal guards on. Greetings from Beautiful Belfast, Northern Ireland.😎👍👍👍🇬🇧

    The plastic arches vs the original metal arches is always a dilemma in cold climates. The plastic arches are so prone to catch and hold water, ice/snow, and road salt. On the other hand, if you leave metal wheel arches exposed, the paint gets dinged and then rust can form on those damaged areas. I’m not sure there is a right answer... I’m from Minnesota and fixing rust on vehicles is constant! Haha.
    Cheers!

      Sometimes I see rust forming while I weld... the Danish climate and salt usage is really really hard on metals....
      Living 100 meters from the beach does not help either... ;)

    I say fit the plastic extensions - as you say, it will make the rear much easier to complete and I think they'll look good, as well. Thanks for the great videos and greetings from Wales!

    If it was me (I know, it's your car and you will rightly do whatever you like) I'd have original wheelarches all round, then you don't need to worry about moisture getting under them or anything else. And you don't have to bother sticking them on and can sell them. The car will be more durable for the future. You can still have the rough black paint. I personally think a deliberately rough looking car should have perfect wheels and other items like door handles, lights etc. Then it looks like you did it on purpose. Otherwise it just looks uncared for. I like the new springs and dampers.

    Hi, if you are in a hurry just do what is needed for the MOT, you can always come back later and make it smarter to your liking. What you have already done looks great , do not underestimate your skills . Many thanks for the uploads ,look forward to your further work on your fleet haha. From Nr Liverpool UK.

    I agree with them comments about fixing the arches. As much as I love the arch extensions, I would worry about them trapping water against the new arch and causing problems later. Welding in new rear arches is also content that we all love 😁👍 Good luck whichever option you choose 🍀🍀🍀

    I'd say go oem, without the arch covers.

    Put the plastic things on in the rear. You can always go back and do it properly later if you want to.

    I think fixing the rear fenders would be better and better looking I think the flares are good if you're changing wheels or if your hiding a mess of rust. Which you are not doing. Keep up the great work what decision you make will be the right one.

    I would fit the plastic and go for the look you like. You can always ‘go back’ the the original look.

    Just in terms of style, I would not use the plastic flairs unless I had to because of wider tires. I think the factory style wheel opening looks better otherwise. But for the situation you're in, where you can't easily fix the rear to match the front, I could certainly understand fitting them, because it is the easiest way to move things forward. Maybe just use double sided tape so they are easy to change later.

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  Před rokem

      Yea its the fastest way right now... So I think I will do that and fix it up later on :)

  • @RobReynolds
    @RobReynolds Před rokem +1

    I’d fit the plastic to the rear, just to get it through the mot. And then when that immediate time constraint goes away, do the rear wheel arches properly

  • @MrToxicSkittle
    @MrToxicSkittle Před rokem

    Go with the plastic wheel arches! They look great, and it seems like a lot of work to do it “right”, for a car that is already quite rough!

  • @ShaunMurray63

    Plastic wheel arch covers is the way I think.

  • @jonjessen
    @jonjessen Před rokem

    I would Put the plastic covers on. And give the inside a generous amount of wax. I always find difficult to water and salt away from the edges of wheel arch repairs in a Pretty way. Then plastic prime the covers and give them stonechip as well. Woul look like it was ment to be.

    I read where the aftermarket panels don’t fit because if they were exactly the same, the manufacturers would be liable for trademark infringement. So they must be slightly different.
    Or that could all be 🐂💩
