IKR lol They get along so well with each other to the point where Whoopi always said that it's possible one of Joy's ancestors was black, cause she's from Italy and it's just 'a boat row away' from Africa lol
Am I the only one that LOVES when Alyssa and Sunny have a moment together? I know they mostly disagree on some politics, but I can tell there’s still some love there. Hope to see more of it!
I like Alyssa and Ana alot. We are supposed to get along even if you have opposing views. We are supposed to be more alike than different. But Trumplicans are on another level.
@princessm you must be NEW TO THE VIEW. joy has told that story numerous times!!! she DID marry Steve to have him as her 'NEXT OF KIN', to pull her plug & make medical decisions for her. they had been a couple for 30 something yrs at that point. as a boyfriend that's not FAMILY.
Hilarious....now this is the Whoopi we love! Whoopi saying she doesn't go to weddings.....but yes, she did go to Joy's because, while yes, love is great but practicality is better---and she loves the idea Joy and Steve married so you have someone to pull the plug when the time comes.....that was so darn funny....especially because Whoopi was so serious.
Weddings are great but being a bridesmaid is so time consuming. I get so tired and often feel like I don't enjoy the wedding fully as a bridesmaid. I'll probably say no when asked next time.
I didn't even want to go to my own wedding! My husband and I got married at the courthouse. A friend insisted on being our witness. I was going to grab a homeless person off the street. It all worked out and was quick and simple. No family or guests, just my friend. I've also made it my policy that I don't go to weddings. I think big weddings are grotesque. They are a joke. Ridiculous! I had a co-worker who told me once that if she could she would have a big wedding every year. She loved the extravaganza and being the princess. I thought a lot less of her after that conversation. I'd like to see people work harder at staying married than having weddings. And those that get married multiple times are gluttons for punishment.
It breaks my heart to hear how some couples will shell out so much money for one day, and barely have enough for a honeymoon. It's one day (for most), why not have something elegant yet budget, and splurge on a honeymoon? Btw, how did you explain not inviting family guests to your wedding?
@@FeelinErie I was estranged from my father for many years and my husband's parents were elderly and we told them we didn't want to make a big deal about it and go through the expense of a wedding. They also lived several states away. As I remember, we went to visit them a few months after we got married. My siblings already knew now I felt about weddings. They weren't surprised when Paul and I eloped. Frankly, I think everyone was relieved and that I was smart.
lol, my wedding was in our local church. We then had a dance at the local firehall. Our drinks were paid for as a gift. We then went home together. i loved it.
Very true. I was helping my mom plan her anniversary party and I called the florist and said I needed 10 center pieces for a "party"...$25 per table. Perfect. My mom called back for something i can't remember what and told them it was for a wedding anniversary party...$50 a table. I was so mad at her. Even though she was paying I was like "YOU NEVER USE THE WORD WEDDING OR ANNIVERSARY!!!"
I turn down being a bridesmaid but that was because I knew my niece and her baby daddy weren’t gonna last. I was right. They’re not together anymore and the wedding didn’t happen 😂😂 I’m an introverted Virgo so even if I did have faith in them I’d still say no to being a bridesmaid. I was only a bridesmaid for my older sister 10 years ago and I hated it. All the attention and rules for members of the wedding party. Over it. I’m an elope and have a huge reception kinda girl.
Agreed! My best friend eloped, went to the court and got license. Didn't purchase any wedding crap (gown, tux, etc.). They then had and hosted a huge party!
This tradition of loads of bridesmaids who pay for their hideous dresses picked by the bride is a horrible American tradition. Outside of the US the bridesmaids agree on dresses with the bride who pays for them. There is no financial burden on the bridesmaids, even their hair and makeup are paid by the bride. This is why there is normally only one or two bridesmaids.
The reason prices go up with weddings is because the hand holding and emotional toll the guest puts on vendors is intense. I would know, it almost killed me. A NY hoity toity social lite from Palm Beach was the stress I attribute to my brain hemorrhage at a Miami Vizacaya wedding I coordinated in 2008. Ask Ana, she knows me.
When my boyfriend's sister married, she told her bridesmaids the color she wanted their dresses to be, and they picked out their own dresses. It stayed in the color scheme, and they got to show off their style. That's what I would do!
Former professional wedding planner here 🙋🏻♀️. Weddings are more money because the needs of two entire families that you cater to, require hours of patience and grace. I credit my brain hemorrhage to a high maintenance difficult client from Palm Beach and NY. Ana knows, she came to see me in the hospital. May 2008.
Why are all of them acting like they don't have money? Joy can't afford to buy a blue dress last week and Sunny couldn't pay $1,800 for a bridesmaid dress?
Yes, indeed I would. I've been a bridesmaid 3 times and I hated all the dresses. For my wedding I only had a maid of honor and my husband had a best man. We got married at the justice of the peace. Done. There were 10 people at the wedding and 70 people at the reception. I couldn't deal with the aggravation of having many bridesmaids.
I think Whoopi is saying a wedding is treated sometimes as the only way to "prove" u love someone when in reality you either love me and want to be with me or not. a wedding proves nothing . so for joy she liked that there was a real life practical element to it .
In my country, the bride and groom pay for everything. Also, bridesmaids here are often children. I was a bridesmaid at age 2,5. My grandma made my dress, my aunt and uncle who were getting married, paid for the fabric. I’ve never heard of anyone in the wedding party having to pay anything here. Typically the witnesses to the marriage ceremony make up the wedding party, with one or two kids as bridesmaids.
Yes, those big extravagant weddings and receptions are promoted by a consumer oriented industry and many women are suckers for that. Honestly, I think it’s outrageous. Of course when I got married to my husband of 40+years we had a nice small ceremony in our backyard. a few friends.. may be a total of six. It was quite nice outdoors with my dogs as bridesmaids.! And yes, when I was just out of high school, I turn down an acquaintance who asked me to be one of 5 bridesmaids back in 1968.. she wanted to have shades of lavender. I told her no I wasn’t interested in being a shade of lavender and I wasn’t that close to her either. . But that took a lot of guts on my part and I’m proud to say I stand by it to this day 50+ years later!!👍💕🌸 And Sunny is, typical of that type of women, who like a lot of fuss over themselves !!

Most of the time those are the closest friends you grew up with. Weddings in Europe aint cheap either BUT what I hear about american ones... I couldnt do most of it xD
I stopped going to weddings years ago. Between the air fare, the hotel room, the gift, the rental car and other miscellaneous expenses, it wasn’t worth it especially since some of my friends got married two or three times. And when they invite me again, I simply tell them to elope and save everyone the trouble and expense! I never did understand the concept of marriage. The examples of The Carter’s and The Bush’s are rare...and I still can’t figure out why Melania stays with you know who!
Engagement party. Bride's gown shopping. Bridesmaid gown shopping. Bachelorette party. Bridal shower. Rehearsal dinner. Ceremony. Reception. Anniversary parties. A couple's marriage shouldn't take away that much time and energy from MY life. So, the answer is yes. I would turn it down if asked to be a bridesmaid.
I was a bridesmaid once and I will never do it again. I dropped so much money. Not to mention, all the bridesmaid has to set up the wedding decorations and then do the breakdown at the end of the night. Groomsmen no where in site. I will never.

I do know that a lot of services when it comes to weddings charge more because there’s a higher quality and weddings are more demanding as far as what is expected. For instance the catering service for a wedding the expectation is different then a business event that’s needs catering that’s why it’s more expensive
