The Afterglow of the Big Bang: The Cosmic Microwave Background

- The Cosmic Microwave Background [CMB] is the oldest light in the universe that we can see or detect. It was emitted only 380,000 years after the universe was born, back when it was a much less peaceful place. The microwave-band static is fundamentally linked to the Big Bang, and if we map it precisely enough, we can discover a wealth of information about the age, composition and structure of the universe.

What I love about this channel, which I discovered recently, is that it's not just Wikipedia + space visuals, it has this unique existential vibe, much like watching 2001: Space Odyssey.
accent, unbiased, good information, delivery, scripts are perfect, the ideas he talks about with you totally emersed. i want to make a channel now and review his content, he would get a 10/10.
yes! theres just something more here than at other channels
waow bro yes exactley! Well said!!
Superb comment mate... Nailed it perfectly 😉
He had a glowup, went from a Geometry Dash youtuber to a Space Channel
“From nano metres to light years in microseconds”
That… scares the shit out of me for some reason… the sheer power of that. Wow.
I think it indicates that there is a whole lot we don't know and may never know. Why? Because, how can you see something outside of your own universe? There's is obviously more to the cosmos than just our universe. Question is, how do we explore that? Can we leave our universe and travel to another universe? Could humans or our machines survive that? Are the physical laws of another universe capable of sustaining human life or even matter as we know it? Lots of questions. Most of them are scary. What is out there?
@@caturdaynite7217 You're right, and also let's not forget that even within our own universe we can only observe the observable part, which is shrinking (in our perspective) because of the expansion of the universe and the constancy of the speed of light. So even just inside our universe we will never be able to see the whole universe unless we find something, anything that's faster than the speed of light. If that happens, then I believe we (our descendents who will hopefully still be kind of human) will be able to see more than the observable part, and then we'll discover if there are boundaries or if it's actually infinite, or if the expansion is even true or just an effect in a region of the universe, and also if there are other universes (this one might be tricky even with FTL technology). You're completely right on the fact that we can't go to different universes, or see inside them, we could maybe notice their boundaries (if they're there at all).
I think that this also relates to the fact that we can't see the microscopically small, only representations of it, and the smaller we can see, the more biased or unrealistic it looks (if you watched journey into the microcosm you know what I mean, in short: if we were scaled down to the size of a microbe, things would look very different from what we see under a microscope).
My personal belief is that sizes are infinite. Both ways. I believe that if the required technology exists (which is exactly the problem) you can zoom infinitely in or out and still find things of relevance, eternally.
Sorry for the long comment, i was inspired lol
Nah. Don't be scared. We're safe now. That was in the beginning.
@@caturdaynite7217 I'm writing a sci-fi novel which includes that very capability!
Its kind of impossible for light to exceed teh local speed-of-light. Expansion from nanometers to Light Years in microseconds, when nothing can travel faster than light: really? Another observation: if the Universe is 13.8B years old, and its expansion (accellerating continuously since BB), is such that today we can't observe the recession of light sources past a distance of 46B light years away (Cosmic Horizon of the Observable Universe) because the light of celestial bodies travelling beyond this cosmic horizon of 46B LY in origin can never cross such a distance before it has reached a harmonic phase equilibrium that must packetize with the receding light source. But BB Inflation Epoch photon redshift to CMB, all this time later, is still observable: how is this? No light travels above the speeds the expansion of space-time accelerates at this distance: the more distant these celestial bodies are the faster their recession, even faster than light, away from us. At all this Time/Space distance their light continuously redshifts along a sliding scale down to this Cosmic Horizon vanishing point, 46B years, until it finally becomes unobservable: the whole signal packet is lost (so to speak). Whereas in microseconds during the BB inflation epoch(?) the Universe had expanded Light Years: in microseconds photons travelled multiples of the distance that light, composed of photons, travels in a year? These sound like different speeds of light, ya know? Is this the missing mass? I am reminded of Einstein's Mass Equivalence comment here, the fusion of 2 Hydrogen to one Helium results in a loss of mass that is given by energy conversion to Light. Just a thought.
Finally, I recall well those initial microseconds were around 13.8B years ago - a helluva lot of microseconds have past since those few. One assumes the Universe has meanwhile continued expanding,
when i learned about static’s origin as a kid i’d leave the tv on the un-tuned channel because i thought it was very cool
Meanwhile your parents are looking for a priest.
Me too! Perfect for sleep!..
I wished I learned it earlier. Static always just creeped me out as a kid and I'd change the channel ASAP

Bruh you've got some balls on you then, that shit used to scare the ever loving shit out of me!
This day suddenly got a whole lot better - SEA uploaded 💪
yerp;
yay happy :D
YES !! AS usual, all else stops when a new SEA video appears !!
Facts
Yes
Sea,
Your content is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but infectious and inspirational. I’ve long desired to dedicate my life to the stars and the search for answers, and you’ve given me the inspiration to keep that dream alive!
Right one brother, no one does it better, that’s for sure.
spot on buddy :)
Welp, I was gunna comment but.... :)
lmfao.
The search for truth........truth about our origins
i watch sea's videos at least twice. once to watch it, the second to fall asleep to it. his voice is just so relaxing and helps me sleep.
Same, they’re so nice to sleep to
And then come CZcams ads blasting at full volume
@@nicocchi the grammarly ads-
Me too
Very peaceful.
I’ve missed your videos SEA!!!! Thank goodness you’re back. Hope all is well!
Fortunately they seem to be publishing about once a month, but goodness that does seem like a while!
Every video takes a whole lot of time fact checking and editing! He’s never stopped gifting us with beautiful knowledge of everything around us!
I am working at an airport, and every time I have to work at night I am listening to this channel while driving, so peaceful and beautiful. Also, I like watching stars at night with friends, and sometimes I play these videos and they love it, or I watch them after I watched stars with my friends. This channel reminds me of how little time we actually have, so we have make our lives something special. Thanks SEA for doing this❤
I like “watching stars” too hehe you guys get some good stars there?
For all the og sea chads out there let’s give our man a big hand for how far he’s come.
How og are you talking about?
Honestly dude your videos are spectacular. Not to mention how incredibly well researched they are, but still keeping that wonder and intrigue at the same time is brilliant. Thanks so much man
When I eventually die, I just want to soar around the universe forever. I want to see everything without bothering anyone or anyone bothering me. Just soar and soak in everything. Even at its worst and most destructive, the universe is still beautiful and perfect.
I downloaded SEA’s entire space playlist and listen to it every night before falling to sleep
Which address should we send your special award to? Fantastic gifts await you.
Another great Playlist to learn and fall asleep too are David butlers "how far away is it?" and "how old is it " which cover all info regarding the cosmos and beginning of time
This is one of the few channels I press the "like" button on, before even having watched the video.
It feels like christmas every time you upload a new video. Thanks for your effort, SEA
There's something to be said about your production values. Props. I appreciate the chapter integration. The attention to detail, and your passion for facts. Cheers mate. Much appreciated.
hats off to you for adapting to this channel's viewership. with newer videos, i could not imagine a better style of youtube films to doze off into the realm of peaceful sleep. it does so in as perfect of a way as is possible, and i find myself rewatching the older entries on this channel simply because i became so invested in hearing about the cosmos from SEA's signature narration - lulling, yet clearly pronounced. hats off
I am subscribed to hundreds of channels, but yours is the one I always anticipate and look forward to most. Thank you!
when i feel sad or unimportant, i watch your videos to remind me that there are greater things beyond us
What's so great about them? Just mindless forces and phenomena that occurs randomly. The entire universe is dead like a never-ending tomb and it's only us that are living. We are the greatest.
Absolutely brilliant video. This is the best channel I have ever come across. Thank you for these masterful videos man.
As soon as I am financially stable again I'll become a SEA Squad Member and donate extra per video because this content is just too well produced to be watched for free in my opinion.
I'm always slightly terrified when I watch one of your videos.
Great video Sea!
These just keep continuing to amaze me. I’ll rewatch this and your other vids several more times because they’re that good.
My favorite youtube channel and i follow 135 others chanels, thank you so much
Wow. I went to leave a comment about how much I appreciate your videos and it was great to read so many fantastic comments that already perfectly described how I feel! :) Great videos SEA. Always so excited when I see there is a new upload! Great balance of data, information and knowledge. Thank you
You left out the first CMB map, RELIKT-1 taken by the Soviet cosmologists. It took NASA for a half a century to create as accurate image.
What? It "didn't took NASA half a century to create as accurate image"
NASA created a better and MUCH more accurate image by using and collecting more data over a longer period a time and choose to release it when they were happy with the results, which is why to "took longer". Because they choose to.
You're saying that as if it took NASA 50 years to "catch up" to something soviets did as if Soviets had and used super advanced satellite technology
@@Carbon_Based_Life_Form While NASA was wasting time and resources to "star wars" and "space race", Soviets were making history by focusing on the science. Thats the simple reason why they were so far ahead in the game.
@@oikkuoek Exactly where does it say that NASA didn't focus on science before or after RELIKT-1? I'm looking at the Wikipedia articles for the CMB and RELIKT-1 and can't find what you mean. Perhaps a reference or two could clear things up.
@@odometric5946 How cute that you "can't find from wikipedia" anything that contradicts the "Nasa's superiority in space technology" How about going to an actual library for once? Let's start with that, and then figure out how to proceed.
@@oikkuoek If you had gone to one, you probably could give me a reference book to read. So how about that?
You have done it again. My absolute favorite channel. I honestly get excited when I see a new video is up. Thank you for all of your hard work, your fans greatly appreciate it.
Your videos get better with each upload, so glad I found this channel. Keep it up
I was waiting so much for a video from you. Definitely my favorite channel with space related stuff💜 Thank you for existing Sea, big respects and greetings from Sweden!
What I like the most about this channel is how the things we don't have a firm understanding of isn't littered with baseless theories. A lot of TV shows throw in stuff like "MAYBE IT'S ALIENS???!!!" whenever something even slightly mysterious is mentioned, but here it's just just brought up as being on the limits of human understanding as well as presenting the theories of the foremost experts in the field. It just elevates the excitement about the unknown to a much higher level.
This 1000%.
Every tv show goes into clickbait theories like "IS THIS CMB ACTUALLY PEOPLE FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION TRYING TO COMMUNICATE?" followed by some educated science dude saying "yeah it could definitely be communication from another dimension, but we just don't know". Then they'll show some distorted shadow figures with curious music playing, then delve into what the interdimensional shadow people would theoretically look/sound like.
That shits so intriguing when your a child, but now its just like wtf come on now. Instead hearing someone say "its beyond our understanding" sparks a primal urge to learn more & solve.
Well tbh for once the scientist was literally though like that when they detect 'strange' signal with very consistent rate. Only few years later it was found that was electromagnetic beam produced by neutron star, marking the first proved evidence of the existence of neutron star (it already covered in SEA video about neutron star.
I love your channel and am perfectly happy with the frequency of high quality videos. You sir are an amazing human being! 😎
I was literally wondering when the next upload on this awesome channel was coming and sure enough right after that thought came to my mind I went to my subscription box and I saw this upload. Funny when that happens. Love your videos, astronomy is easily the most interesting science to me, and you never fail to captivate my curiosity of this fascinating universe.
I watched this so many times, I cannot express enough how much I enjoyed this video. Great work. Rapidly ascending to the top as one of the best space/universe related channels.
The Big Bank!
Love all your videos man! Been watching all your previous videos so I'm super stoked when a new one comes out.
Once again an absolute awesome episode. I congratulate you sir. Stunning, thought provoking and interesting. Tied together with such narration to keep the watcher glued to every episode. An afternoon spent with you and the science itself would be an absolute honour.
Great video! Might I suggest white dwarfs next? Missed you SEA
I feel that my appreciation isn't nearly enough to express how satisfied I am with your video. This video (like many other of your videos) is highly educational, entertaining and absolutely beautiful work. Thank you for gathering and sharing these very interesting facts and theories.
Absolutely love this channel! These videos are amazing to watch with how in depth things are explained, I truly find each upload fascinating!
This is by far my favorite channel on CZcams. I look forward to your videos, no matter how long they take.
My favorite CZcams channel by far. Can't wait to watch this when I get off of work 🙌
Thank you once again for your incredible content, always a pleasure to watch anything you release and wish you every success with your channel in the years to come
Thank you so much for making space and astronomy so accessible and easy to follow. Your content is amazing!
I've been waiting for a new video! This is amazing, great explanation and visuals. Your voice is super relaxing, great work.
Sea, thank you for the content that you create. It is just breathtaking what you are creating. In each of the document that you create I can feel passion in your voice, your writing has improved so much since tha last year. I am so happy to see you develop in such an exponential rate. Keep on making amazing content, keep on teaching us about the beautiful world we are living it, keep enjoying what you are doing! You are the best
Oh, and he left it open for a sequel!
Just wanted to say that your videos should set the standard for content creators in the youtube community. They are of amazing quality and really enjoyable, much love and keep up the good work man.
Love the work you put in man, please keep them coming!
These videos are amazing. Great work Sea!
i am so glad i found this channel!! Excellent work man keep it up!
I‘ve already read about the things presented in this video, but being able to sit back and really listen to what the history of the universe is and what the CMB is and how we came across it still blew my tiny little mind!
I absolutely adore this channel, I‘m so glad I found the videos you are making
One of your best videos to date! Fantastic work SEA
My dude. Your ability to communicate such complex topics in an engaging manner is a hell of a skill to have. I always love your videos
You have some of the most informative and beautifully edited space videos on CZcams ❤️
One of the best channels I've found for learning this type of material. Keep it up 👍
Love your content for the amazing quality, every video is worth to wait for
Finally a new video, love your stuff!
I absolutely love your videos. They are incredibly thought provoking. Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into them.
Bravo!
I absolutely love your work. Always looking forward to your next release.!
Thank you!
There's always this sense humbling and comforting feeling that I get from watching Sea's videos, not to mention the expert use of background music, there's so much of them that I've saved just cause I heard them here.
Yeeesss, new episode from SEA.
Thank you so much for your awesome content.
Dora the Explorer: Where's the map?
SEA:
So excited to see this come up in my notifications. My favourite channel ❤.
Just the other day I was thinking "What will SEA even talk about next?" and sure enough I find you have uploaded. You create amazing, education, and existentially gutting content. It's like a special event every time I see a new video of yours. I wish I could be watching these in the theater.
I finally found a use for the little bell!
Great stuff man!
I've seen a lot of CMB videos but never one that explained its progress as we got better at detecting anisotropies and refining the that image. Great stuff.
Bro, you are the best channel on CZcams! Thank you for taking something incredibly difficult to comprehend and making it understandable for the masses!
Amazing video as always. It blows my mind that we can understand so much from something that at first glance was just random static.
One of the jewels of CZcams….this channel.
This instantly made an already great day even better, thank you so much for your content!
After watching your videos all my anxieties and worries go away. Its like therapy for me. Thank you and keep making these wonderful videos about universe.thanks again.
Been following a while now and always excited to watch new video. Keep up at great work!
These are fantastically put together. Very well done. thank you
That was extremely interesting and a believable theory on CMB's. I'm always captivated with your videos and always disappointed when they end. Not because your video was disappointing, by no means, but because I just want to hear more on the subject. Keep those fabulous videos coming.
So well explained and well produced!
Thanks!
Yesssss best day when you upload! I wait for it every month!
Hats off to you. What you condense and explain is incredible. Bringing together unimaginable intellect.
Thank you Sea! Another high quality amazing video!
What a channel. Incredible video! Great work!
SEA top notch quality💯
Really enjoying these videos. These videos aren't targetted for people that don't even know what a light year is, but still comprehensible enough for people that don't have a major in astrophysics. You don't spend twenty minutes preaching how insane a certain concept is, you just roll right through the video. I also appreciate the documentary-style of the video, with chapters and all. Random fact channels like Thoughty2 and the Inforgraphics Show can't properly explain things in a ten minutes video for kids. Keep up the good work, I'll be plowing through your 55 video space playlist.
Thank you for uploading!
Perfect. Your way of making content is absolutely perfect.
Boy! Wow! I absolutely love listening to your videos and seeing the spectacular vistas you show of cosmic wonder! Thank you for teaching me so much about the universe, I remain an eager fan!
Please do more, I love your channel, put simply, there isn't enough of it
Your amazing. Been watching you since your old gd vids and still here watching you. You never fell off for me
Dude we’ve missed you man! Today is a good day! Thanks as always!🔥🔥
Thank you for this birthday gift. I love learning about the universe through you!
Happy belated birthday! 😀
@@sea_space Thank you!
Everything that comes up from this channel was rare content and sensational! It always fascinates me what's beyond our Earth! Thanks for this video mate! 👍😍
Definitely one of your better or _best_ videos. Penrose's explanation makes intuitive sense.
SEA you’re still so underrated
Dude I love listening to your videos as I'm in bed going to sleep. Your voice and everything else is so soothing.
I'll watch this one several times. Thanks for hitting on my favorite subject.
How do you make space so spooky? I always feel on edge and beyond curious with your vids, it is genuinely fantastic. Like sci-fi horror but it's real life explanations and theories.
I've waited so long for your next viddy, they are such high quality friendo.
Your videos cannot be explained with just the word "educational".. They're a whole fairy tale! Thank you for the wonderful work, SEA. It's truly an honor to listen to your videos.
I just became a fan of your channel. But I've loved space since I was a kid and you make it so easy to understand, thank you so much
Thank you for this, the most in-depth video I've seen about the CMB
You deserve WAY more attention for these amazing videos.
Your content is INCREDIBLE!
Fantastic work as always. Hope to find this channel again in the next iteration of our conformally cyclic… Spacetime
It’s always a good day when SEA drops a video, the quality is always clean af and the vids are so nice to fall asleep to in my opinion
