Was it pre-existing Gems, is White Diamond of different origin, did gems somehow evolve naturally, is their a god entity, did another species make Gems as AI, or is it something different? There are so many possibilities and potential stories. I personally think Sneople-like aliens did it because its the one Ronaldo conspiracy without a simplified explanation, and he mentioned a polymorphic rock species that are a slave race for sneople, created by sneople, in a townie episode. Polymorphic rocks are definitely Gems, and there's been no follow up on the rest.
Well we know white was the one who created the diamonds, and in turn the diamonds created gem kind. It might be possible that white diamond was a naturally born gem and that homeworld itself was her kindergarten, which explains why it looks split apart
Possibly. It's hard to say as the show throws evidence in almost every direction.

My biggest problem with this show is that it was advertised as something to “tie up loose ends” but instead created more questions than it answered

I was really hoping he would have started to see his mother not as a saint like she was portrayed at the beginning, not as a overly emotional , irresponsible child like they had her at the end but as a person who wasn't dealt the perfect hand but tried to do the best she could with it.Who matured into a role that she didn't plan on and didn't ask for.

Imagine at the age of fifteen finding out something life changing about a dead parent. Maybe you find out they were a murderer or something. And with it you find out all family of those she killed blame you.
Do you just find resolution with that in a year? Five years? You might never find resolution with those feelings. Not even when you're sixty. To think he would be able to come to terms with something so intimate or devestating in the course of a season is ehh.

I kinda find it irritating since it’s not even just the “Whats in the chest?” But also “how did they find the key?” “Where was the key?” “What did they do with what was inside?” “Do the gems know about the chest or did Steven go solo?” “Did whatever’s inside effect the gems emotionally?” “Did they go though any arcs?” At least for me, it’s not something simple like “what did Ms Bellum look like”..considering all of the items in lions mane have had some emotional on the characters, I find it hard to believe it’s something inconsequential...but hey shows over so we may never know🤷🏽♀️

then rose wrote a letter or made a tape saying that once he found out the truth he would be able to see this, and it is her apologising for everything and that steven should be himself not rose, thats why he got the pink jacket so he feels different and not feel like he is rose quartz.
also a theory on how he got his new diamond powers, when he was struck by the rejuvinator, his gem was reset back to the start, PINK DIAMONDS GEM, so when the gem was reset he gained all of pink diamonds powers as if they were new, thats how they got stronger everyday and there were more everyday ebcause steven was discovering the new powers
I feel like they honestly don’t know what’s in the chest. We’re better off not knowing because we’ll be disappointed
I feel the same about some of the other things we never saw, like a lapidot fusion
So many people built up that idea in their heads, if it was ever shown, people would be disappointed
Maybe what was in the chest changed over time, until they couldn't figure out a suitable way to bring it back into the plot, so they just left the idea
@@Marigold11037 It makes sense though that the Lapidot fusion didn't happen. Especially on Lapis' side. Time won't fix the wounds inflicted to her by fusing with Jasper and being stuck as Malachite. It's better this way. (This is further supported by the fact that she's still unstable up to this day, as she would've poofed or even shattered the two terraforming Lapis Lazulis if Steven didn't stop him.

The chest in lion is symbolism of a secret that pink diamond was holding on. Example, telling my secret lifted my anatomical chest and I feel better.
The chest was open in the movie so it has to do something with spinel who her gemstone is a heart. When an anatomical chest is open you also have your anatomical heart open.
In reality there was nothing in the chest because it was all meant to be symbolism in the show.

My theory is the crewniverse took a similar route as scott cawthen, creator of the fnaf franchise. For those who are unfamiliar with the fnaf universe, in the ending fourth game is a dark room, with a locked box. You can't open it, you can't break it. Nothing.
When asked about the box, Scott had this to say: "Perhaps some things are best left forgotten, forever.", thereby saying, he doesn't know, or doesn't think we the player should or want to know, incase he disappoints us.
Perhaps the crewniverse took a similar stand here. They think they might disappoint us if we find out.

Hear me out, a spin off of all the diamonds in era 1 before and leading up to pink becoming rose. It can show us how they were before all this happened and give us another side of the Diamonds. And they can be the war lords they were meant to be
To find a sense for closure, I have decided to conclude that the 'treasure chest' was simply put, 'empty'. A symbolic gesture. An allegory to both Rose/Pink Diamond and Steven's stories.
For Rose/Pink, it contained all of her unspoken secrets and past life as though by pushing her trauma's/memory and old sense of self out of thought and out of mind. Much like suppressing thoughts.This way she can fully embrace being a Rose Quartz and focus solely upon her new life.
For Steven it may have represented his hidden strength and tensions rising as time progressed. Some tend to lock away outward displays of emotional discontent, so that they may appear strong and resilient, supportive to their weaker counterparts. It took so long for Steven to open the chest because he hadn't matured enough to fight his own demons/dragons. I wouldn't be surprised if Pearl had the key or Greg. When the chest opened, everything he held back, spilled forth - Pandora's box.
On another note, maybe it just contained the flag (:

I've never had an interest to that chest before, but now that I've watched this video and had a closer look of that chest, looking from the upside down-pentagon shaped keyhole decoration design I find it resembling to Pink Diamond's gem.(pentagon is also a shape of a gem cut for Rose so I find it really stunning!) So now I'm guessing the chest has something to do with Rose's past as pink diamond? Maybe something that keeps a fond memories of other diamonds that rose couldn't get rid of.(but also never look back) It can also relate to chest being opened after all the secrets of rose revealed. Just my opinion though X)
I quite like the analogy of the chest representing Pink's secret having been opened, but I can't help but think that's lousy writing.
If the chest had always been in the background and Steven had never interacted with it, it could definitely be seen as nothing but symbolism. The thing is he actively tried to open it. This means it was acknowledged as an object from the story, and our attention was drawn to it.
They would have been better off never opening it - it'd feel better, to me, to think that it's something no one would ever know. It'd drive home the point that we don't need to know.
But it was opened. Which means Steven went out of his way to open it, since it's an object he's known to directly interact with. Steven knows what's inside it, and he most likely cared. Not telling us... Is perfectly useless. It makes the chest completely useless.
As someone else already commented-- not addressing the matter directly is perfectly fine. For it to be any sort of mystery, though, there should be clues towards what it contains. But there aren't. We can only imagine.
In which case, we're better off imagining there was never a chest at all.

I belive it's the gem shards what were used to trick everyone in pink diamonds shattering or it's gem shards of x/sharrterd crystal gems.
If it was the gem shards used to trick the diamonds then the diamonds should have these no? or she went back to the crime scene?
Why would she need to hide them in a chest though? And wouldn't that be used as evidence in the trial-that her shards went missing?
I like the idea of it being shattered crystal gems though. Maybe she tried to fix them and couldn't, but couldn't like with her failure either, so hid them like she did bismuth

2:20 I mean she probably still resents her. Ive been rewatching the show and its not like anything really changed in Earthlings between amethyst and jasper. Jasper probably just kept up with the "you came out wrong" narrative and despite amethyst being kind of over it, it probably still hurt for Jasper to say those things again. Just like how she trash talked Steven starting the whole pink steven thing.
