      I just blew a 6.5" K9 on the 1st day! But it wasn't actually blown, the Surrounds on half of the subwoofer came undone. I glued them with some E6000 and it's playing just fine now. Only thing is when I play hard core Low HZ for a song or two the whole car starts to smell like glue. Other than that it pounds.

You should consider building and buying more boxes and show everyone the difference between sealed, ported and bandpass... like when you review a sub you could play it in different boxes and see the difference. Plus I like box building vids lol. Just a thought. Keep up the good work.

      Skar actually makes some really decent prefab boxes. Good quality for reasonable price. With the price of wood these days it would likely cost just as much or more to build one. Of course if you need a certain volume, you may not fine one prefab and have no choice but to make your own. For most people putting one or two subs in their daily driver, it shouldn't be too hard to find a prefab box that is very close in spec to what the manufacturer of your sub recommends

    Continous Program Peak are the three ratings and used by larger speaker manufactures of PA equipment(JBL,Peavey etc). Rockville started out as Audio Savings selling P/A equipment. Its not incorrect or weird. Its just a different way of doing it. These types of systems generally deal with uncompressed music so there are more peaks. Not like the pre recorded music played through most car stereo's which is generally heavy compressed in recording and mastering
    So with the 3 ratings, the idea is you get an amp that is the program rating, knowing that you have a little extra head room to handle short peaks without clipping to, deal with live(program material) less than ideally compressed music. But you can't pump a continuous sin wave at the program rating it will/should not last long. This also ensures you always have clean power, to extract max long term performance but if abused, enough power to damage or push things out of their happy operating ranges into that realm of failure.
    BTW I have never heard of anyone using the peak numbers any where but in the marketing department
    Edit- the reason you see car and home use rms(continuous) and peak(program) is they play mastered music. Which do not have those un mastered peaks to deal with so the over all levels can be pushed higher. So its ideal to suggest a less powerful amp, so they use a different rating system. I hope that makes sense.

    • @RJSDZNS
      @RJSDZNS Před 3 lety

      Thank you for that explanation! If they are going to make subs for car audio they should get on board with how the rest for the industry rates car audio stuff so it doesn't confuse people. Unfortunately people new to the car audio world see that leak power rating and get excited not knowing the subs won't handle that continuesly. It's kinda shady and ALOT of manufacturers do it, not just rockville. Again the explanation was awesome!! You rock.

      @absalonw007 Před 3 lety

    @recon440 Před 3 lety +6

    Thanks for the test. Couple of observations: 1) The BL loss / power compression seems quite bad.... 137dB @ ~400W to 143dB @ ~6000W.... you would expect a 6dB gain at ~1600W, not 6000W. 2) As for the RMS, as the name implies you need to look at the mean value. The test tone at 1400W is exactly what you need to test this as with music you are probably averaging less than 1/3 of that.

    I might be a car audio snob, but after spending 10 years of so after high school working as a car stereo shop manager and installer starting in the mid 90’s, I had my hands on stuff from just about every amp and sub brand that was around after the 80’s, and it was usually super easy to tell which products or entire brands to completely avoid no matter how cheap. I’ve always maintained the rule that with car audio gear you get what you pay for. 5000 watt amps for 150.00 are crap if they even get close.

    Rockville doesn't have weird ratings. You just have to know what the ratings mean. The 2800 is a number compared to a non cea rated BS company like Boss, Power Acoustic or Pyle. The CEA rating is for less than 1% distortion. Its comparable to Kicker, Alpine, Rockford, etc. Its a way of showing you a range of where the speaker can play. Thats why they rate their products like that.

      Thank y'all. In this day and age, I just figured that there had to be some info on these subs some where. I couldn't find shit. I found a few reviews but nothing substantial. I'm not the kinda guy who spends his hard earned money on things I know nothing about. Before I buy something, I wanna make sure it's what I'm looking for and it's worth my time and money. I'm not trying to win any comps. I just want nice, hard hitting, clean bass. I can't make up my mind on which sub I want. I have everything else. I just need the sub. I've narrowed it down to like, 5 subs. Seismic Audio 12", American Bass XR 12", Savard Hi Q 12", Resilient Sounds Gold 12" and the Harmony Audio Monolith12". I think I'm just gonna say fuck it, and pick out of a hat or some shit. Also, I'm just gonna start my own youtube channel and test everything, every which way I can. Thanks for the info y'all. Appreciate ya. Lemme know yallz opinions on the 5 subs I narrowed down to!! Also, I built a sealed box and the sub is seeing exactly 2.0 cubic feet. Well actually it's like 2.0134 but, close enough. I'm thinking about building a new box to maximize the SQ potential. Bandpass, ported, 4th order or 6th order. It don't matter. I can build anything. I just wanna know which one would be best???

    I like test like this. This is the way you should test subs. On music. I don't like the way they rate their subs but their cea rating is based on the power of the amp. 1400 watt rating will be a 1400 watt amp. And chances are it will never see that 1400 watts from a amp rated that much cause of impedance rise. I personally wouldn't buy Rockville subs but this model seems to be way better.

    cool vids, been subbed. Sooo i can't help but feel like they rated it for Amp-Matching purposes for people that would buy a sub at this price. as in less electrical, maybe a 2800watt amp that does slightly less to the sub. on the other end, your amp and electrical allow you to whack it with a Full 3400 for how long, while expecting no smell. just my opinion.

    Hello!
    TY for ALL your videos!
    I saw this Budget Bass Basher on Amazonia and found your review by proxy. Thinking this would be a cheap way to show some kids around the block what an old school EarthQuake PHD5000W-grey can do when compared to a recent 5000w monoblock class D amp! The old school will definitely rule when hooked to my Phoenix Gold Alternator!
    Anyways, a better understanding of "Program" or "PGM" =
    We all have heard PGM described as follows:
    A speaker's "program" rating is the maximum amount of peak power it can safely handle in short bursts. It's almost always twice the "continuous" rating. For example, a speaker rated for 400 watts continuous power would be rated for 800 watts program power.
    Here is a better description to get better understanding:
    ☆The "program" rating is also known as the "music" power rating. It's a higher rating because music has many peaks and dips and is not as abusive as a continuous signal. ☆
    ☆The ideal setup is where the amp's RMS rating is around the speaker's program rating. This lets the amp's peak wattage approach the peak wattage of the speaker when in the particular cabinet chosen.
    Program watt ratings are used heavily when setting up a P.A. rig, where musical peaks are prevalent and single test and competition tones are not used.....much. With a musical rating given Peavy suggests an amplifier that can achieve 65 to 85% of the PGM rating while keeping the amplifier channel gains at 2/3rds of the amp's maximum output giving your P.A. the cleanest sounding music reproduction but still giving your sound system the ability to peak terrific DB when needed 😉!
    Seems odd for a Car Audio company to include PGM ratings when looking at it from a competitive veiwpoint, but from a musically oriented standpoint PGM gives the user a better chance at reaching their audiophile-ish goals (even though I would never call a speaker with a sensitivity of 85 an audiophile quality speaker! l😂
