Another well-presented video. I will have to go and try out my Mercedes Amg park assistance over the weekend. I have never used it; I still park manually. I think you should do a poll to see how many drivers use park assist or still park manually.

AMG GLA45 for the last three years. Probably used park assist three or four times a year. My findings are that you have to drive too far past the space for the system to kick in.
If you have another car up your backside I can almost guarantee you’re not going to use Park Assist.

@PhilbyFavourites ah that’s b cause the entire length of the car (the last parking sensor) at the back has to have driven past the space and a bit of the other car. It’s using ultrasound 🤓

@@npolearycheers Nick, I had read that in the manual (I’m an RTBF sort of guy 🤓🤓). It has the potential for being very useful. But it will only be when every one uses it. Much like cruise control would be great if it were linked (another step on from the radar guided cruise control). Take every one out of the link and automate it all “Google Cars” and you’d take the variable of the human being out of the equation.
I’ll be long gone by the time that happens - but I bet you will experience it in your lifetime.
Keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻

My Formentor had park assist, used it as a gimmick to show off to mates, however it did have a handy feature of getting you out the space even if it didn’t park itself. Worked very well when some numpty parks atrociously around you or too close!
Ps, thanks for all your help and suggestions at the county show a couple of weeks back! He’s loving his new A Class! This page has definitely helped me and him figure stuff out… like changing the key battery and its many features 😂

Cars with the key fob operation are good for bay parking that''s cramped. At first exposure to that, I didn't want to have anything to do with it. Then I saw it demonstrated in a real life situation. It amazes me how slowly and smoothly the car moved, but it was done in about 30 seconds.

In over three years of owning my C class, I've tried it out but never found any reason to use it. Two reasons:
First I can manually reverse into a space that's too short to even be noticed by park assist. Second, on a busy road I can pull up and reverse into a space (getting out of the way of the other traffic) before park assist has even got its brain into gear.
I guess it might be of some use for a driver who's not capable of parking without it. 😅

I saw a Lamborghini parked perfectly, one inch away from the curb. Only problem was, there was no way his girlfriend could get out! (Door too close to the ground, below curb height.) Edit: For the parallel park, yeah, it's nice to show off, but you also have to get back out, and someone might park a couple of inches off your bumper. Leaving yourself a few inches closer to the street is not always a bad idea, just be careful warning a passenger not to misstep and twist an ankle or scuff her shoe against the curb. It's always nice to go around and hold the door.

Ah well this is because you’re using Apple CarPlay. Remember Apple CarPlay is a replacement for the car’s multimedia system, you need to use one or the other.
So if you want to use the car’s multimedia system I.e Hey Mercedes, you need to turn off CarPlay.
On your phone go to settings, Bluetooth, find your car and turn off CarPlay.
Because CarPlay was on the car expects you to use the Siri voice assistant to make the call.

Mercedes has this funny problem that If you come across several free parking spaces next to each other for bay parking, it'll offer you to park parallel in them. 😂 It also frequently struggles to find a spot in general.
In theory it also allows you to leave the parking space but I'd say half the time it instead starts looking for where to park, even when there are cars on both sides and it's in parking gear, so it's definitely a mixed bag of experiences it offers.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  Před 8 měsíci

Well it’s not a problem, that’s how the system works. It’s not a camera looking for spaces like we see with our eyes, it’s using ultrasound and measuring the length of spaces. So if there’s a car parked in a bay, with a large enough gap it’ll offer a Parallel park because it’s just measuring spaces 👍🏼
