  • The #Roland #MV-8000 Production Studio has a built-in 10-band #Vocoder.
    In this video I show you how to set it up, how to use it and how to create that special #Transformers-voice.
    Let me explain it step by step.
    1. Mic on left
    2. Synth on right
    3. Volume of left channel on ‘mic’
    4. MFX - select ‘10-band vocoder’
    5. Put Routing on ‘input’
    6. Create MIDI track
    7. Set output assign on MFX of that midi track
    8. Select the midi channel of the synth which is connected on the right input.
    That should be it to play with the Vocoder.

    There was a tutorial written by NNitred on the MV Nation back in the day explaining this very thing. Funny thing is, I was looking to see if I had saved it somewhere and then bam! This pops up! Good job. I got some robot voice cheats that I will put up when I get a chance.

    Hey my friend Roger..so, i guess this MV also includes the synth of the sp-808, as all of the other same quality effects, but i think that i still like the sp more cause it's:a) more affordable, b) aesthitic-it's way more beautiful, IMO, and c) not so big (though the sp's big too, but this MV is Huge..!
    But generally, i a fine piece of gear, you can do evrthng with it, and it's sequencer is great..orks
    It maybe is the better workstation, better than the big akai MC's range..

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Patrick!
      Yes, it includes the same effects and therefore the same virtual synthesizer. (video very soon :D)
      I do agree on your statements regarding money wise and size. The looks of the MV I like a lot due to it's tank size.
      Nevertheless the SP-808's are beautiful!
      What I notice in general is that the MV doesn't have that much attention as like the SP-808.
      I think it has to do what you've mentioned regarding the price/size. Also I don't know in what area of the world it was sold mostly.
      Anyway...yes...it's a very nice workstation which offers more than just sample-chopping.
      We stay in touch, amigo!
      Grtzzz, Roger

      @PatrickDiAngelo Před 5 lety

      Haha, yeah, Amigo!!!
      Oh, i forgot to tell you, the vids you made about sp-808, are (by far..) the best there are on yt..it's not just me to say that, a lot of people mentioned it...and i hope you'll make more. Yeah, i know that right now you feel excitement and you want to dig in the MV, but please don't forget the sp-808..///
      And smth else amigo, there's an sp-808 selling in Athens, (I'm in Salonica..), the seller says it' full functional but he doesn't know if it's upgraded to the ex OS. I contacted with him, and i got this impression. The price is 200 euros..And i think that with a bit of a fight with my wife, i could get these. But the point is, that i need some gear,(a midi-thru or better patchbay, a stand, and ome cables-you see, i always buy good guitar cables which are in a medium price, though i could get some cheap ones or some RCA and put converters to them to plug in..).
      And i think that these stuff are more necessary to me, than the sp...but in the other hand, my gas for the sp is huge, -and you're responsible or a big part of tthis...;)-, IDFK what to do...

    Hello Roger, thank you for the video. Can someone please help me? I have a few questions about this feature.
    Here is my setup:
    I have my digital keyboard plugged into the line input on the right side. I have my microphone plugged into an audio interface (an external device), which is then plugged into the left line input on the MV-8800. I have the routing for the vocoder set to input in the MFX section. When I speak/sing into the microphone, all I hear is my voice with a slight echo. The same happens with the keyboard sounds when I play the keyboard. There is no vocoder effect that I notice. Just the sound of the instrument or my voice with a slight echo. When I play the two together there is no change.
    You said that it is important to have a MIDI track set up for this to work. Can you talk about that some more? What should the output assign be on that MIDI track? Should there be an instrument loaded onto the MIDI track?
    Should I not use the audio interface for this?
    This is still very confusing to me. I am still having a hard time understanding what I need to do to get this to work. I have tried adjusting the levels in the vocoder and in the mixer. I have also tried consulting the manual, but this does not help much either.
    Any help is appreciated. I love the MV. And this would be able to freak this machine to the next level. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

      Samuel Loeffler Hi!
      Great to read that you’re putting effort in getting thy that Vocoder sound.
      Let me explain it step by step.
      1. Mic on left
      2. Synth on right
      3. Volume of left channel on ‘mic’
      4. MFX - select ‘10-band vocoder’
      5. Put Routing on ‘input’
      6. Create MIDI track
      7. Set output assign on MFX of that midi track
      8. Select the midi channel of the synth which is connected on the right input.
      That should be it to play with the Vocoder.
      I hope it works.

      Roger!!! Thank you for the reply!!! I got it working now! What I had to do was hit the System button, go into the Global Settings, and change the Input Select to Analog. I previously had it on Analog L+R. I also had the MIDI cable still connected to the keyboard which I had to disconnect in order for the vocoder to work. Thank you for your help!!!

    What would be the best microphone to use with the MV when recording vocals such as singing or rapping?

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  Před 5 lety

      Mr. Bossman The best is to search for a dynamic vocal microphone with a jack connector on the end of the cable.
      There are mics available for 35€ up to X.
      It depends on your budget as you notice.
      I use a Samson 50€ mic and I’m satisfied with it.
      Don’t buy omni directional mics because they get too much surrounding sounds.
      You only want to hear your voice, right?
      The world of mics is huge...sooo many models and sooo many accessories.
      Mic in hand, mic on stand, mic with pop filter and so on.
      Good advice, right? 😅

    Roger The MIDI MANIC, how can the Vocoder be recorded inside the MV8000?

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  Před 5 lety

      The best way to record the Vocoder inside the MV-8000 is by sampling your vocoded sound.
      You can choose between 'sampling' or 'resampling'. When you sample your vocoded sound, you can add the sample into your work. When resampling with the vocoded sound you get also the pre-recorded sound.
      My suggestion would be using normal sampling.
      Put the sample criteria on: START TRIGGER - PLAY and STOP TRIGGER - amount of beats. The sample with the vocoded sound will be in sync with your beat. But you've to decide for yourself what works best.
      Hope it works for you.
      Grtzzz, Roger

    • @zenzeven6088
      @zenzeven6088 Před 5 lety

      Thanks for answering, I have found that the only way to capture a live performance inside the machine is to have the carrier coming from outside then both the vocal and the carrier is performed live and can be recorded as an audio track. In this senario there will not be an issue with the armed track selected that otherwise cause the problem of using the vocoder freely within the eMVee. The best, Zen7
