Its anti-marriage theme was common in the Cowboy Song genre with its emphasis on freedom from responsibility and ties.

This song is going to be eternally associated with Fallout new vegas. Not that I'm complaining. Can you imagine being a big fan of the song before the game came out
@@DS-pq9cg A bug in the game code (in New Vegas say it ain't so!) caused this song to play in place of another song as well as when it was supposed to play-- so it played twice as often as it should, making it quite memorable.
His taste of picking songs to cover makes me think he's one of the fallout fans 💀💀💀
Either that or he liked all this music before Fallout and realized he had a broader audience.

Hearing kids sing sea shanties and Irish and British folk and trad music 'cause of Assassin's creed and other games makes me chuckle, 'cause I grew up with all that sh-t.

When I recorded this video, I only knew the song as a fairly obscure cowboy song from the 1940s, and was amazed when it got such a big response on CZcams. I gather that it’s because it was used in a computer game? Fair enough, it’s a great song!

The premise of the game is rather simple: nuclear war destroyed the majority of life on Earth and those who survived now fight over the remnants of the old world, kinda like in Mad Max. And since there's no "new" music produced anymore, radio stations in the game only play goodies from the bygone era, like Peggy Lee, Kay Kyser and Marty Robbins.
