Thanks for sharing your honest self-reflection towards Chanel. I couldn’t help but reflect on mine and got to a somewhat similar conclusion through a different path. Being French, I’ve always known Chanel but I identified it to old grannies. I always had a love for Fashion history and that’s what got me into luxury later on (collecting Iconic Fashion history pieces). What changed my whole perspective on Chanel was “accidentally” working for them and becoming through work “a Chanel girl” encountering Karl’s universe through discovering the new beauty product launches. It was Fashion creativity as its highest, absolutely chic and extravagant simultaneously, I just started to dream I could one day own a piece of that. Much later, owning my very first Chanel bags was out of this world, I was owning a piece of this fantasy world. But as the prices increased and I got to experience the lack of care in their quality, I just had to deal with my cognitive dissonance separating/addressing my idea of Chanel and the reality of it. I love the idea of it but feel disgusted, taken advantage of when thinking of what I’m receiving for the hard money I spent on it: I just feel ripped off. Such a journey to get there… I still have the dream… but it will never become a reality. Not even something I could enjoy from time to time the eyes filled with stars as a little girl reaching her dream. I initially tried to justify the lack of quality care for the exorbitant price but finally got enough self-respect to see it for what it is.

I don’t own any Chanel bags but I am drawn to the pearls, the cc logo, the cap toe shoes, and the camellia flower. I own a pair of Chanel mules in black with the camellia flower and I adore them. I also have the Karl Lagerfeld Agyness shoulder bag in red and after owning that bag for a few years now, it has satisfied my “need” for a Chanel classic flap. This was a great video. Thank you for sharing!

Same here! I bought the Karl Lagerfeld Agyness in tweed, and I was like "nah, I'm good now" lol!

I speak as a former Chanel employee in Italy and I can only be happy to hear that someone can have such an opinion because both for the quality of the items and the work environment inside the boutique this brand is a total 0…. Love your honest feedback ❤
You won’t be missing anything! Trust me😘

in a way, I'm sad to hear that! Because that's not how it should be, especially for those who work for the company!

My first Chanel "bag" was the classic woc, black caviar, ghw. That was back in 2017, and it's still my favourite. I do not like all Chanel bags/styles, but I do still love my woc soooo much! Lol :) I am not sure how I got into Chanel, and my collection is no where near "big", but somehow the idea of "Chanel" really captured my attention and I can't really pinpoint when, how, or why! lol I just see the cc and it gives this feeling lol definitely there is a "I've made it!" component.

From totally not into luxury until tired of luxury, the only bag I really love is Chanel Classic flap 😅 I first started watching CZcams is also because of the bag. I always find spending thousands on Celine, LV, Bottega not worth it haha. To each our own. Everyone has different preferences xxxx

I have to agree, that when I was new to luxury, I too got sucked into the Chanel bandwagon. I can appreciate the bags, but a lot of the styles are too formal for my personal style. However, I do have a few Chanel bags that I love and are perfect for work but I'm conent with the few I have and have no intentions of buying anymore Chanel. I also have to say the same logic you mentioned has been linked to owning an Hermes Birkin. Not a fan of the style and hand-held bags don't work for me but the messaging surrounding it seems to be that it's the pinnacle bag for luxury handbag collectors.

Absolutely! I Know many of us feel that way about the lady dior as well, we may think it's beautiful, but it's not our style, but the collector in us still wants one. And maybe that's why we see so many on the preloved market...

Thank you for this video. I almost fell for the hype but there was always a reason that I never gravitated to them but when I started re-collecting(took a 15 year hiatus) and watching CZcams I began the search for a classic flap. Plus my sister bought one before before one of the prices increases(think she paid $8500) and that gave me some FOMO but on a budget as I never go over 5k for a bag. But I always thought the classic flap had “old lady vibes” and have come to my senses. I really just like the Trendy, a waist belt bag, and unfortunately the poorly bag Chanel 22. So I am fighting the FOMO on Chanel and rather spend my money on a Chanel jacket but not a classic tweed but something edgy which I can happily search for at the vintage shops for the next few years until I find a winner.

First let me say, I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! You have such great insights and you articulate the things I am feeling and thinking so incredibly well!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to probe my video topic with your own experience. I really think that if we all had a good hard look, the allure of the top brands would fall to a more healthy and sustainable place.

I’ve never bought anything from Chanel, the esthetic is just not mine and definitely not worth the price. But the question “why do you like Chanel” is so genius. I think many people should ask themselves why do they like Hermes and why do they like the Birkin.

    • @carrino15
      @carrino15 Před 26 dny +1

I like the Birkin and Kelly and picotin because they are elegant and cute. When made in hard wearing leather it is a statement for life and and heirloom. I bought a swift leather b25, that was maybe not so smart but no one does colour like Hermés. And swift leather get so saturated with the colour and feels like velvet to touch.

After all these discussions on quality, pricing and controversies, I am more on Chanel than Hermes. It's all personal preference imo. Primarily, im an LV canvas girl. I know there's a lot of Chanel dupes out there but i still want a classic flap. I have a Chanel WOC and I end up loving it. You can actually wear the flap casually and not just on tweeds.

I started not caring about owning Chanel recently. I think it’s cheap looking (just my opinion). I’m kind of embarrassed to carry my bag .. but I do love the shoes I have . Lately I have been more attracted to Hermés .. not that I feel like buying anymore from them either . I think I have enough stuff .😅

I really like the classic flaps. I prefer the style compared to Hermes. I don’t like the Chanel clothing. I cringe when I see people wearing it head to toe. I find it’s too much, almost tacky. There is the odd piece of ready to wear that is nice.

  • @mwedzi

I don't care about Chanel, which is good, since it's out of my price range. Unlike Dior, which is also out of my price range, but whose stuff I naturally think is beautiful. I don't like flap bags, actually. And even the Chanel-esque flap bags I do like, I like them more than the Chanel itself, like the Gucci marmont or Coach quilted tabby. Maybe I prefer the pokey thing in the middle ... hmm, lol. Anyway, yeah, youtube is full of Chanel talk, it's the 'epitome' (after Hermes), of .. something or other, but never did it for me.
The beading on the bag you got is so fun, though!

I can definitely appreciate Chanel but after owning 3 bags I’ve discovered I am not a Chanel girl. I had a GST, probably the favorite of the 3. I did not like my reissue 227. I thought it looked rough and the hardware wear did not impress me. I had a gorgeous lamb skin jumbo. It was just too dressy and I couldn’t pull off the wear your jumbo with casual clothes vibe. I still have a wallet that I use and like. I also have a pair of sunglasses that I love.
The price hikes are ridiculous imo. Their bags are not Hermes.
I’m not even tempted by Chanel any longer. My lifestyle is just too casual.

I think Chanel looks like uniform for repressed women in the age 1940-1990 years. So many women became bitter, and had to flex in the post wars years as they took care of the home while their men cheated and in the end dumped them for younger women. Chanel looks for me poor with the tweed. Tweed is a fabric that to me, remind me of flee market and old hostels in England infested with flees and bedbugs. Tweed to me does not look clean or modern and would age you a lot i think. The price hikes on top of this in addition to lower quality has put me off Chanel completely.

lol! Pink tweed in particular reminds me of Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter! 🤣
