Such a great little gift -- the recipients will love it! Think I need those colored bulb pins. 😝 My former guild used to do various challenges. One I liked was: one of the officers of the guild went around the room with a big bucket of crayons. We had to reach in and pick out three crayons (without looking in the bucket) and then make something (anything) using those three colors. I got lucky and got good colors; my friend got horrible colors, but she made something wonderful out of them anyway! Another challenge they did every year (for those who wanted to participate) was for their Christmas luncheon. To participate, you put 5 fat quarters into a brown paper bag along with your name and a note saying what you wanted the other person to make (most people just said "make whatever"). Then, the bags were put in a pile at one of the summer meetings (to give enough time to make something by December) and those participating would select one of the bags (not your own) and make something for the other person that would be unwrapped at the luncheon. The ladies made the most beautiful things and NOT necessarily just quilts -- purses, pillows, tote bags, and many other beautiful items were made. It was so inspiring! Hope this helps you out! 🥰

I have a sewing group that I started 8 years ago.
We have made quilts, progressed to bag making and quick gifts we have made are book sleeves, shoe bags, needle books and painting on fabric. Made a lot of your slow stitch projects.
    We are in South Africa.
    Love your videos. Regards Jenny

First, I LOVE that little mushroom pincushion. Next, I'll start by saying I am the president of my local quilt guild and have much to share, perhaps too much for this post. I'll give you some basic information below that you asked for but if you are interested in more, just comment and let me know and I can email you more. See below:
    • We rent a hall space every 2nd Thursday from 10am to 9pm every month.
    • We charge $25 a year to help pay for teachers and other things like the hall. We have 95 members.•
    • During the day we all sit and sew, quilt, stitch and sometimes bring in teachers for day workshops.
    • During the evening, at 7:00 p.m. we bring in someone for a lecture, or trunk show followed by an official business meeting because we are a true non-profit guild.
    • We do monthly and yearly challenges including: postcard challenges, art quilts challenges based on a theme, crayon challenge, similar to your paint chip challenge but we get to pick two blindly from a paper bag and add one color. Name badge challenge, We do secret santa exchanges at holiday potluck, and more.
    • We do a Fat Quarter Exchanges every year.
    • We have summer and year-end potlucks
    • We have an annual community sew day where we make things for charities
    • We have an annual Christmas in July fun day, with games and prizes where we get an early start on holiday gifts
    • We present a member Show-n-Tell at the end of every monthly meeting. If someone has a unique project or technique, we may schedule them to do a demonstration one month if willing.
    • We go on retreats and road trips to quilt shows
    • We don't require people quilt to join. We accept ANY needlework or needle artists. We have some that do multiple crafts, like myself.
Our guild has been around for 44 years so it has history. I've been the president for over 6 years so I've got alot of info in my pocket. Happy to share more.

I belong to a Machine Embroidery Club. There are maybe 50 members and usually 30 go to the retreat. We meet monthly. The members volunteer to do a demo each month. Last month I did making jewelry with FSL and scrap fabric. We always do a show and tell. Not all items are embroidered except maybe the label.

Our guild meets every Thursday, 1st is the business meeting, 2nd show & tell, 3rd education or group project, 4th or 5th are sit n sew or as I call it sit n gab. We have had a name tag contest, make a project from ugly fabric supplied by the guild and every two years we have a 20 x 20 quilt challenge for our quilt show. The challenge quilt has a theme and the only requirement is the size.

I was in a QG for a short time (I had 3 little children so I didn’t last long! But every month we would get the birthday for the next month of each person (I think we only had 7 folks in it, very small town!) but we made a 12” quilt block for that persons birthday. My Mother was in it for several years. When she passed I found all of the blocks made for her. I’m 2022 I put them all in a quilt called Mama’s Quilt Guild birthday blocks! I cherish it-It’s so beautiful! Even the one I made for my mom is in it! I did a school house block! Your ideas are too cute! Thanks for sharing

We meet twice a month. The second week of the month we meet for the afternoon and usually have a speaker. We also gave s suitcase which we put small interesting things in just in case the speaker lets us down on short notice. We put out names on the back with details of what it is we’ve sewn and the background story just in case we’re not there to talk about it ourselves. The Fourth week we have a full day sewing or maybe a workshop.
We’re having a quilt show next week and we have a challenge called ‘shades’ which we can interpret however we want. Nobody knows who did what and we place a dish in front of each challenge so visitors can put a penny in those they like best. Most pennies wins but we dont really win, its just for fun. Of course we make cakes, have a fabric stall and we’re having a mini workshop. We are raffling two quilts. All proceeds are going to our local hospice.
Its at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch - a little village on an island called Anglesey, Wales which just happens to have the longest name in Europe.

I'm in two Quilt Guilds - one meets in the morning and one in the evening once a month. They always have show n tell, some business to take care of, and they like to have a speaker or someone to demonstrate their favorite thing to do. This month everyone talked about their favorite quilting tool. The two guilds have a quilt show every other year. The Day Guild will have a well known speaker at least once a year but that is usually several thousand dollars. The Evening Guild has had Zoom quilters teach classes. At least once or twice a year we have sleep in your bed retreats. We rent the meeting room at the local air port and come and go as we want. Sleeping in your own bed is great. Very cute way to use old wooden spools.

My local quilting group meets once a month for meetings. We have show and tell and you can bring handwork any time. Each meeting has either a guest speaker, a member giving a mini class or some other activity such as in May we have 'the biggest morning tea' which is a fund raiser for cancer. We have a trading table of donations to sell - could be books, fabric, home made jams etc.
Each year we have a challenge. One year it was make an apron, this year it is make a pin cushion which can be a biscornu. We have had challenge fabric to include in a 12.5" block. These are then made up for charity.
We have 2 sit'n'sew days per month on Saturdays.
Thak you for your tutorials I really do enjoy them and try to make some of your projects. I am in Australia.

Really cute idea. I would like to one of these to keep next to my slow stitching with needles with different colored threads. Since I recently fell in love with slow stitching - a project that may be fun would be to give each person a baggie filled with similar fabrics, buttons, etc and a 6 x 6 piece of felt (or something similar). You will be amazed at all the different things people will come up with. I used to be in a large quilt guild and miss the yearly retreats we had. Have fun!

Love the mushroom Julia. My quilt group meet once a month and we have extra meetings to make charity quilts occasionally or workshops lead by a person doing a demonstration and teaching how to do things like pojagi/ bojagi seams. Most meeting have a speaker who relates their journey and brings show and tell things. Members can show and tell too at the end of each meeting. We have challenges which vary but may be we would be given a jam jar with pieces of fabric and haberdashery in to make a mini quilt for a few meetings ahead or a mini quilt to celebrate a particular season.💕

My quilt group meets twice a month. The first time is only for handwork, the next one is for anything. My family has a sewing day twice a year. For about 5 yrs now we have done an ugly fabric challenge. Someone chooses a fabric they think is ugly and gives everyone a fat quarter. We all draw names and make something with the fat quarter for the person we drew. So, everyone gets a handmade gift. It is amazing what we come up with. Its a lot of fun.

Our stitchery guild meets once a month and we do some stitching project, show and tell, and a very short business meeting. One really fun thing we did (as a little fubdraiser) was members made and donated "a pretty little thing" of their choice. We then laid these out and members bought tickets to put in the draw of the thing(s) they wanted. I think it was an arms length of tickets for $2. It was really fun to see what folks made and the second year we did this almost every member added something and we had so many pretty things! The description we used to give members some idea was to make something you would give to your sister or a close friend. Not too big but a bit special. One year i made a little fabric holder with interesting bits and sewing supplies- thanks to your creative ideas and the one i purchased from you! I love it!

One Monthly Goal they listed UFO projects or for our newer quilters something they want to try or learn and work on it for a month. They are also shown at our meetings. We also make string quilts in this club as our Heartwarming project, gifting them to members in our community who are ill been in an accident, etc.

We supply comfort quilts to the area hospitals and shelters, we have yearly challenges, do quilt shows, block of the month zoom meetings, and sit and stitch gatherings. We have an art quilter’s section and display quilts around the community libraries and hospitals. Our challenge this year is to make a log cabin quilt that can be either a quilt or table runner. One guild has 2 members in charge of programs, which they usually teach, short 30-minute programs. The other guild is newer and we are fleshing out programs. The newer group meets monthly, with every other month a sew day. Both groups have a challenge project. For the newer group, we make a quilt that is donated to the Modern Quilt Guild. The challenge for the other group is set by the program chair and changes each year. This year it will be to use something vintage in your make. Both groups have a yearly retreat.

Hi Julia, We have a large quilt group that meets once a month. However we also have what we call Satellite Groups. They usually consist of 10 or 20 people that meet whenever they decide. My Group meets once a week for about 3 hours. We sew on any quilts we may be making for ourselves or charity. Some people make placemats, or fidget quilts, etc to give to charity. Some of us work on embroidery, hexagons, or any sewing project that we wish. This changes from week to week. At the beginning of the meeting we have show and tell about what someone is working on or has finished but only if they wish to share. Some bring their sewing machines and some do not. Again, it all depends on what we may want to bring to work on. Our biennial quilt show is this October, so many of us are working on those projects. Hope this helps

Hi Julia! I used to live in a small town in Southern California. I joined a sewing group and we met at a member's house about once a week. We would work on some of our own projects or help each other make their project. One time we made pillowcases, using the "burrito style". Another time near the Christmas Holidays, we made Christmas ornaments using styrofoam balls and small squares of Christmas fabric and then fold the fabric and pin it to the styrofoam ball.Very hard on the fingers but they turned out beautiful! We also did hand appliqué and each one of us made a block for a quilt to be given to one of the members who was leaving the area. I have since retired and moved to the East Coast and belong to a quilt guild here. Some of us get together to work on items to sew for charity like "Quilts of Valor" type quilts and now we are working on items to make for an upcoming Craft Fair! Hope this helps!
