Great step by step video. Very informative.
I cant stress enough the need to clean the pins and the slides before you put everything back together. The old brake dust will cause the pads to hang up and wear unevenly.

Update: Was a success! The only difference I had was working on a 2020 X2, the wear sensor port was behind the wheelwheel, had to take part of the liner off to get to the clip. Overall it was a pretty simple job with the right tools. Got the pads and sensor from rockauto and a brake pin knockout kit from amazon.
Did you compress the brake caliper? Is it necessary?
People really need to stop posting videos that show hazardous working conditions. Use jack stands.

Oh wow step by step very informative thank you so much ! I wanted to know your thoughts on the Brembo brake pads has somehow they are very cheap in my area. Also for a beginner like me do you recommend doing it my self or just take it to the shop ?
I see this comment is like 2 years old so you probably already have the answer to this but brembo brakes are comprised of materials that work best under extreme conditions. If you are track racing on the weekends and you brake enough to warm up the pads then spending the extra money on racing pads in general might be worth it, but if you drive assertively on the road but rarely track the car, you might not ever heat the pads enough to need race pads. That heat is vital for race brakes to work effectively and the cold brakes sound like shit when you drive before they are warmed up. Save your money and ears unless you need to.
Yikes! That jack fails and your legs are gone 🤦🏻. Please use approved Jack stands!! They are cheap and will literally save your life.

Doesn't matter if it's approved or not. Just put anything under it. Like the wheel you just removed. Better that than your legs
@@dlzmedia2792 I'm watching it to learn how to replace the brake pads. I already know how to jack up a car, and this isn't how you do it. A coworker of mine was killed when the car he was working on slipped of the jack. I know the jack stands are not approved because he's not using any!
do you need to change 1 or 2 of those tear sensors, or only on left side? What size does the punch tool have to be, 2, 3 or 4mm? Thanks for the helpful video.
How did you push the pistons back enough to make room for the new fatter pads
goaliesforpres you use your old brake pad and a screw driver and pry them back, or you can use a break caliper tool they sell at Walmart for like 4 bucks, or use ur fingers to push the piston back if you have descent finger strength
Use pliers to remove the pins once you have knocked them through to the back.
Please tell me you’re using jack stands underneath. Your leg under the car scares the crap out of me.

it is recommended to change the sensor, sometimes due to the heat the sensor gets fixed with the brake pad, the sensors arent expensive (8-10dlls each) search them at www.rockauto.com

Did you need to replace the sensor, mine hasn't triggered and I'm doing them tomorrow
Aslong as the brake pad light hasn’t come on the dash then you can re use the old sensor as it hasnt been triggered

I've owned mine for a year now and the only maintenance I had to do was bring it back to the dealer for an oil change!

I bought my 2016 M235i X drive new in May of that year. Just turned 50,000 miles. Zero repairs or issues of any kind. ZERO! Dealer replaced my brake pads and rotors yesterday at 50,000 miles. Seriously! The Odometer flipped over to 50,000 miles when I drove into the service bay! Love the way the car drives.

Hi, I bought an impact wrench and used a 17mm bit. When I press reverse, the nut wont move and I hear loud rattling. Do you know if the lug nuts are 17mm or could it be that they are smaller?

Sometimes you will need to use a breaker bar to break them free as they seize in the thread or tyre shop could have over tightened them I broke 2 impact sockets on mine after having my tyres changed also make sure socket is completely on the nut or you will round the nut and major issues getting the damn thing out
The rattling is the 'impact' of the gun, its basically feeding hammer blows to generate twisting force to undo the nut. I know it's 3 years later lol
