There are several risk factors we can count. However, the most important one is older age. The chances of having colon cancer increases with age.
There are other risk factors like:
History of inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Family history of colorectal cancer or colorectal polyps
Approximately 5% of cases are attribute to genetic causes such as Familial adenomatous polyposis & Lynch syndrome
Some lifestyle factors may also contribute to an increase risk of colorectal cancer like
    Low-fibre and High fat diet
A diet low in fruit and vegetables
Lack of regular physical exercise, alcohol consumption and tobacco use
Here are the signs & symptoms of colon cancer
    1. Change in bowel habits:

    4. Abdominal pain and bloating:
Pain in your rectum or abdominal area. The abdominal pain in colorectal cancer may be due to partial or complete obstruction of the bowl or evasion of the cancer into the peritoneum.
    5. Unexplained anaemia:
If you are anemic, you may find that you are tired, weak and may experience fatigue that improve upon resting.
    6. Palpable Mass:

Actually young people in their 20s and 30s are getting colon and rectal cancers today and it's skyrocketing. Don't let any doctor tell u to blow off your symptoms cause you're "too young to get cancer." I've literally held a dead baby in the hospital from Leukemia. Colon cancer-------We have no clear cut ideas about the aetiology of such disease . Actual problems come from the point that it may not be detectable at an early stage because the sign and symptoms may be similar to that of bleeding haemorrhoid/piles when patient tries to go in recovery when treatment line of a piles may have to be followed for few days and usually go to a doctor when no recovery is noticed even after few days of treatment . In late going case excision of the lesion and subsequent biopsy from that tissue may take some time when there is every possibility of metastasis in case that lesion can not be scraped properly ..

Friends, please get in there and get a colonoscopy as soon as you are old enough for your health insurance to cover it, if not sooner. The procedure is really not a big deal.
I believe many health plans will actually pay for the whole screening, with no copay. It is just that important to them, and I am sure that their actuaries have calculated the risk of having to pay for cancer treatments vs colonoscopies.
