This will save lives, no doubt about it. Great job.
As former deckhand of two and half years, I was fortunate to have never experienced a rope snapping back. No doubt this was my biggest fear when mooring a vessel.
Wont even see it coming right? its just SNAP and gone
Hats off to this inventions some fellow mates are taking serious actions appreciated
That's really impressive. Very smart solution to an extremely dangerous problem.
As a maritime officer (and yes, I handle the ropes as well) mooring has always had my highest respect due to risk af accidents of many different kinds. Lets hope the companies are willing to pay for the extra safety.
Absolutely brilliant 👏 finally we are doing something about this. I felt exactly the same when working on ships. So I invented the GroundGrab. Hopefully these big steps will make a difference 🙏
I wish they had made the slow motion clips a bit longer or slowed them down more, it's kind of tough to see the comparisons or how the SBA works when you only see them for two seconds at a time
Watching SnapBack is really really cool
Genius as a Seafarer we definitely need these ropes on board our ship 🚢⚓
I knew a US Navy Petty Officer who was killed by an anchor rope snapeback. This could save many lives.
Smart invention .Keep up the good work.
Incredible. Great work!
When i was in the navy we used kevlar core line.
This is where real innovation is, saving human lives.
This is awesome!
Very nice keep up the great work 👍
That’s awesome, great idea and product
Wow this is so amazing 😉
This is so nice and simple.
At the minimum, it seems should at least direct any snap back that does occur to a smaller and more predictable danger zone.
Congrats!!!
"I used the rope to stop the rope"
bravo!
Hope every ship got this.
I wish Your Good Company could give the quatation to Anglo Eastern for providing a full set of Your ropes to the Capesize fleet vessels. It would safe lives, cost minimise and efficiency. Hope one day You could reach the agreement. Great Job.
What exactly is the update on this technology? I am interested in becoming an OS, but was informed I would be working the Mooring lines, and after coming across this snap-back phenomena, I am hesitant to go forward. Is anyone using this tech yet?
very cool technology! The drawback is probably that ropes will snap more easily since the center piece of the rope is not participating in the maximum strain anymore?
No if the same amount of rope is being used it will be the same
Ohh Snap
Cool
Do you know what is the required bollarpull for the bits to handle this ropes?
So this rope has an extra rope inside of it longer than the original rope so if it breaks the second longer rope inside is there to catch it?
I think it's not longer but it is elastic so that it doesn't break as easy as the "main" rope
Hi there! The Snap Back Arrestor is inside the rope, this is correct. The SBA has higher elongation than the load bearing rope and in addition there is a technology during the production that secures the functionality of the solution.
Spectra stoppe already dies this by itself
Does hanging a towel or a mat on the rope, help with snap back?
Drastically.
Hello! No, this is not a proven solution for reducing the snap back.
But wouldn't this decrease the maximum force the rope can take (per radius) without snapping?
Request to add on the cost comparison with normal ropes for practical implementation of this on board
The price difference is marginal, connected only to the material and production of the SBA. The increase will depend on the type of rope (Mixed composition or HMPE) and on the size of the rope.
Is this improve mooring rope is in mass production now?
Hello Juan! Yes, these ropes are standards in Wilhelmsen's Timm ropes product range available worldwide.
New weapon?
Where is it filmed ?
Hello there! Video was filmed at one of our NorSea bases in Norway.
Is anyone using your tech yet? I'm interested in becoming an OS but the idea of losing a limb or my life isn't very appealing.
Its just a rope it couldnt be that bad
