OX CNC refactor - part1: Y-axis gantry plates

  • I decided to disassemble my ox CNC and refactor it with some upgraded parts. Rather than take the sensible path of using a tried and trusted design. I figured I'd make up my own. Mostly trying to reuse all the aluminium extrusion.

    Interesting work so far. I presume that is for wood?

      Mostly yes. I'm wondering if it might be strong enough for some aluminium work. The ox which I'm updating could just about manage that. But predominantly wood and similar softer materials.

      @@MakerGeek You would need a slower cutting speed I expect as well as coolant/cutting fluid, but I suppose it would be a good idea to see what others have done with cutting aluminium.

      I have a water cooled 2.2kw spindle on a vfd. So I can drop the rpms a fair amount though I'm not sure at what point I'd lose any torque. But it's not really a priority. I have the big manual mill for metal which covers most of my requirements there.
