13th April 1994
This is the video from a live album that was released in 1995 but is currently out of print. The album was called "Cross Purposes Live" and was recorded during the tour in support of the 1994 album "Cross Purposes" featuring the return of vocalist Tony Martin.
It's a great show, and it's awesome to hear Tony Martin playing some of these songs. Perhaps the most interesting bit in the entire show is hearing him sing "Symptom of the Universe," which Tony brought back into the setlists following the two shows with Rob Halford on vocals at the end of the Dehumanizer Tour.
Setlist:
0:00 Time Machine
4:28 Children of the Grave
9:56 I Witness
15:37 The Mob Rules
19:09 Into the Void
25:47 Anno Mundi
32:03 Black Sabbath
40:42 Neon Knights
45:49 Psychophobia
48:53 The Wizard
53:09 Cross of Thorns
58:22 Symptom of the Universe/Bobby Rondinelli Drum Solo
1:05:55 Headless Cross
1:11:28 Paranoid/Heaven and Hell (Snippet)
1:16:43 Iron Man
1:20:21 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Tony Martin is such an incredible vocalist. I love all the albums he did with Black Sabbath. As a Black Sabbath fan through all the lineups this one was one of my favorites. Just a great concert!
Exactly the same thoughts for me. I was there for this concert (I used to live across the road from the Hammersmith Odeon). I met Tony Martin and Tony Iommi at different times. Both were very nice and interesting to talk to.
He’s actually my favorite Sabbath singer, Ozzy being 2nd of course…
Love your first choice!
Love all sabbath albums no matter whos singing if is Ozzy Dio Ian or Tony
What a great bassist. Mr. Geezer Butler is incredible, and he's one of the masters of Bass.
What a strange place Sabbath was in during the 90's. Tony Martin is trashed on so often. But this concert reminds me that he had an impossible job to fill. Yet he still does it fantastically. He sings Ozzy's eerie vibe, along with Dio's triumphant powerful anthems amazingly. It feels like this is a best of both worlds sorta concert. You would never see Ozzy singing Sabbath tunes from their entire history like this.
Tony Martin's Sabbath was a good new Sabbath, such as Dio or Gillan. But they were not nice with him, he even says that he kinda blames Ozzy because people just wanted the Ozzy stuff...
Great singer Tony Martin, I love his Sabbath era.
Tony Martin!! Sabbàths MOST underrated singer he deserves better!!🍺🍺🍺💥
This is AMAZING. Tony Martin not only pulls off his own stuff, but did a GREAT job doing Ozzy and Dio songs. A LOT better than I thought he could.
I love Tony Martin. Excellent singer💖 i enjoy to listen to all this concert.
❤ Same
Agreed!
I will always be a huge Tony Martin fan in the BS days. Each vocalist added a different dimension.
Amazing vocalist
I've been in the room when he's recording, the volume and power in his voice is jaw dropping.
Martin is so underrated...wish Iommi & Butler would record new material with him & Rodinelli. Classic lineup!!
Cross Purposes is definitely the best album of that era.
@markc5771 That's your opinion. Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, and TYR are the very best of that time, which is my opinion.
@@helkas3316blah blah blah
@Sly_Raxx Did you just fart out of your fingertips ?. Sly_emptysax.
@Sly_Raxx Hater of all bs and here you are, full of it.
Tony Martin is absolutely Amazing! He represents so proudly & soulfully all Black Sabbath other vocalist songs..
Harmonica in The Wizard is over all. Respect!
Haven't heard something like that from Dio or Gillan....
Rondinelli is God Level drummer.
And last of all, this line up from Tony era is absolute TOP in my opinion. With Geezer & Rondinelli rhythm section Cross Purposes LIVE is the last "Thunder Chord" from the band!
Cosplay singer.
I heard in Dio much most powerful, consistency and control in this performances than Tony, he was another level of vocalist.
This is so absolutely great! I can't believe it wasn't included in the upcoming Tony Martin Black Sabbath box set as it would have been such a good extra!❤🎸😎👍
This era has always been golden and severely underrated. Saw them in March of 1994, Cross Purposes tour with Mötorhead and Morbid Angel at the El Paso County Coliseum. Great times!!!
Hell yeah I was there too.
Hopefully Tony Martin gets his time in the sun with the release of,- Black Sabbath, Anno Domini Box set coming May 31 2024!
This is the first time I've ever seen this concert recording. It's very good. Tony (the Cat) Martin is very underrated. I think Children of the Grave, The Mob Rules, Neon Knights, The Wizard, Symptom of the Universe, Headless Cross and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath are the standout tracks here.
INTO THE VOID, Best Version Ever...
Best Black Sabbath DVD
Chorus riff with keyboards by Geoff Nicholls makes "Children of the Grave" epic and dramatic.
One of the greatest concerts ever!
Awesome performance. I bought this VHS/CD set when it first came out back in 1994.
me too
Me also🤘
Time machine - super!!!!!
Killer sound video, with headphones it sounds incredible
Simplesmente, espetacular ! A maior e melhor Banda do Planeta
Respect due ..great vocals on ‘Time Machine’ by Tony Martin. I have this show a VHS/CD dual package.Apparently Tony Martin cut a set of lead vocals for what was to become ‘Dehumanizer’ when Ronnie left quite early on,before coming back.
Me too!
I recently paid 120 bucks for an unopened vhs cd package just for the disc, I wore mine out driving around in the 90s jammin to this.
This songs are the true classics of BLACK SABBATH. 😊😊😊😊
The album Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath is there true classics
You win!!@@Mordecai_275
Awesome line up, kind of makes me wish the ozzy reunion never happened, but I get that iommi desperately needed it.
Lol no, the ozzy era lineup needed to get back together, into the void here sounds like a cover band especially Tony playing it not in C#, sound like he’s playing in Eb and it’s a real miss on my fav sabbath song
Agreed but why isn’t Geoff Nicholls in any of the shots?
@@matthewajello1299then go watch live versions with Ozzy and leave Black Sabbath fans alone…
I loved that era the most elegant voice of metal ever Tony Martin, the voice underrated of the world of Metal. Hurray forever Tony Martin!!!!
una de las mejores épocas de Black Sabbath
Oh Boy... Great show with Tony Martin on vocals and the Guitars of Mr.Iommi are high voltage insane(sounding so good).
The whole setlist is mighty happening, but hearing ''The Wizard'' it makes me stoked about🤘
WoW!!! uma das melhores bandas de sempre.Muito bom.Tony Martin,é ''grande'',na voz.Espectacular.
Bobby Rondinelli has a great sense of time,... as for the rest... classic rock at its' best!... A senior/major presence shown by Iommi, Geezer and Tony Martin.
This exact lineup and setlist is most excellent. Bloody Hell!
Great Martin. Sings really good every song from every stage
I was there and it was a good gig. Cathedral opening for them, with Victor Griffin and Joe Hasselvander from Pentagram in the lineup, was the highlight of the night.
Brilliant Sabbath with Martin.
I still have my copy, but not a vcr. I believe the studio album was only sold with the video when it came out. Thanks for posting this.
This must be the style of the Hammersmith Apollo's lighting and AV management team, but I can't help but notice the similarity between this show and the Whitesnake recording for the DVD "Live... in the Still of the Night" recorded at this venue 10 years later. In the Whitesnake show, you can see that the editing techniques, the lighting, and the types of shots used, etc... are all very reminiscent of this show.
You could be right. Just wondered, where this was sourced from? The quality is much better than what i have seen before. I have a dvd of this with the whole show, but the quality is terrible. is this was the official VHS? Looks great.
@@severancemetalThis is definitely from the official VHS version pro shot "Cross Purposes" concert video. I bought this back when it came out at Best Buy in 1994 as a VHS/CD set.
Tony doesn’t get enough credit! Great singer! Love Cross Purposes!!!
cool ,,good sound
Tony Martin was sick at this show is too bad they couldn't have recorded a different show
Well he sounds fantastic and looks energetic…
У Black Sabbath не было плохих фронтменов. И Тони один из лучших
Mick wall's book is quite critical of this era (and bizarrely critical of Tony Iommi, actually). He also states that this is the only Sabbath UK tour when they didn't play the capital. erm...
Damn
Amazing show!!!
I can't get enough of Psychphobia.
Amazing.......Mr.Butler so great!!
Like that they all of Symptom of the Universe.
HAIL SABBATH 😈❤️🙏😈❤️🙏!!!!!!!!!! SEMPRE FORTISSIMI E GRANDISSIMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the wizard !!!
Very very under rated singer Martin killer Era they were solid
Rondinelli always a great musician
I show this 94 tour in St Paul Minnesota ❤❤❤❤
This is Awesome
Woow ! Tony n Sabbath ! What a great singer , he really does more than justice 2 the Dio n Ozzy songs - he's awesome ! 🖖😊👍🤙🏻🎼🎶🎵🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
thanks for this...interesting to hear tony martin sing time machine
Tolles Konzert. Spitze.
Vi esse show no Brasil. Em São Paulo setembro de 1994 Com Slayer e Kiss
But with Bill Ward on drums. Saw them here in Santiago, Chile
Could have done without Into the Void and The Wizard, and traded for The Shining/Ancient Warrior medley, Nightmare, or Eternal Idol. Otherwise awesome show! Tony Martin is great, and the rest of the boys are on fire. 🤘🏼👦🏻 Party On.
It's a shame eternal idol was never played live. Easily one of the best songs from that era
Bobbie Rondinelli on drums, formerly of Rainbow and would later drum with Blue Oyster Cult from 1997 to 2004
Офигенный концерт!
muy bien Tony
Geezer is a fuckin BEAST here!!!!!
All Sabbath albums are good
le meilleur Sabbath est avec OZZY 🤟☮️💓
Com certeza!
Ozzy rules 🤘
🤘💯
🔥🔥🔥
I was the only Sabbath vocalist who could convincingly sing every other era of the band.
Gran cantante Tony Martin, muy infravalorado lamentablemente en Black Sabbath. Para mi, es el 3 mejor cantante de la banda detras de Dio y Ozzy
San Tonino!🤘🏻😎
"Perhaps the most interesting bit in the entire show is hearing him sing "Symptom of the Universe," which Tony brought back into the setlists following the two shows with Rob Halford on vocals at the end of the Dehumanizer Tour."
I think Into the Void is the same. They played it with Rob, and I think Tony started to miss it.
😍
So when did Tony Martin get sick during this tour? Or was it before the tour? This show was mid-April, and the first show of the tour was early February ("The Sting" bootleg), and on that show he voice sounds better than on this show, although a lot more snarly. Has he discussed it in any detail?
It's still Black Sabbath to me. Black Sabbath forever!
every lineup..
It is a pitty there's no definition on the bass sound... would have been a great recording...
Great! Who was the drummer at this time?
Os modinhas não gostam !!!!
Eu gosto... Neste vocal, ficou irado..
Where’s Geoff Nicholls? Why can’t we see him?
até que o carebeludo canta bem!
By the end of the gig it's getting harder and harder for his voice.
Tony iommi Guitar🎸
Gezzer Butler Bass Guitar🎸
Tony Martin Vocal🎤
Bobby Rondinelli Drems🥁
Geoff Nicholls keyboards🎹😪
Tony Martin reminds me so incredibly much of John Payne of Asia in so many different ways. If you know who he is then you know why😂
One of the lost concerts
Вроде бы и не плохо, но честно признаться не воспринимаю Black Sabbath без Ozzy. Как исключение :" Zero Hero" в исполнении Ian Gillan , звучит просто супер.
Do i hear ladies singing background on Headless Cross?!?!?
Drums?
Excelente formação!!!!!!!!!
Foda
Ozzy sings really strange here?
Terence Joseph Michael Butler
Geoffrey James Nicholls 🎹😢
Anthony Philip Harford
Anthony Frank Iommi
Bobby Rondinelli
I Was There, Simply Night Magic ⚡️🔥🤘
Yeah but why can’t we see Geoff in this video? I wish he was in the camera…
1:00:31
What a lovely person in a wig
There are also good vocal interpretations of the old Ozzy songs...Especially Children of the Grave and Symptom of the Universe....But I must admit he's no RJD - especially live...
Nah he’s better than RJD
It amazes me that Tony can sing Dio but has a tough time singing Ozzy's songs.seems like it should have been the other way around.
You shouldn't be that amazed, it's not difficult to explain. Despite his power, Ronnie James Dio had a very limited vocal range, which is relatively easy to emulate - I don't mean sound like him, just sing within that range, which is where Tony Martin is. Ozzy, on the other hand, who also has a limited vocal range, sings at a much higher pitch, which most vocalists just can't reach, let alone sustain for any length of time. That's why Tony Martin has no trouble singing the Dio stuff, but not Ozzy's.
Ozzy sang everything flat, Martin and Dio are slightly sharp……
I hate all the pseudo "fans" because off he is not Ozzy or Dio, now we have a very hidden gems of a really awesome era so Sabbath.
Thanks to Tony Iommy to no let Black Sabbath Die.
Sorry for my bad english.
Man Who’s Drumming?
Bobby Rondinelli.
@@TheSeventyfour74 Thanks Man
Anyone think at one time that gram bonnet would’ve sounded good with sabbath?
I just think he would have problems with the metal image, just like he had on Rainbow
1:11:30 well learned from mr Brian May
My favourite BS line-up. Maybe with Ozzy they produced more hits, but with TM they made the best music - Cross Purposes and Tyr are excellent albums with plenty of great tracks.
100% agree! Tyr is their best album period!
But did fans ask Tony Iommi to bring Ozzy back to Black Sabbath
No need for Ozzy. Tony Martin is the one guy on this earth who can do it better than Ozzy…
Yea but fans miss Ozzy as Black Sabbath vocalist
@@ayanjaved322 yeah but fans also like Tony Martin…
But what about Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes and Ray Gillen
@@ayanjaved322 Martin and Osbourne have done far more for Black Sabbath than all of them combined. In fact, Glenn Hughes and Ray Gillen shouldn’t even count as members…
Melhor vocal do sabbath.
ΔΙΟΣ.......DIO vocals are difficult.......
