09:37 Ink Review - Jak na to + styl
On a whim, I got a Hongdian 517D from Bobby’s site. It has that soft rubbery feel. I was blown away by how nice that fine black nib was. Hongdian has quickly made a name for themselves by producing a great nib. Thanks for the review.
Wow - what a beautiful ink! The colour separation is gorgeous! Thanks tor the excellent review; it’s been on my radar.
I have the fine point version in the same color and am loving it for everyday writing. It feels like a high quality product at an extremely affordable price point. I am lusting for the bent nib as I want to do some comic book inking, and this seems like the perfect way to get different sized lines and good quick shading.
Awesome pen! Looks really well made, beautiful to boot. The ink is a marvelous choice, seems they were meant to be together!
Thank you for the review!
Nice to see your comment on this pen. I've seen several of your vids, very well done. Your handwriting is lovely!
Want to see you writing with it! I am a subscriber to both channels!
That ink is crazy!! Looks fun to write with
I've seen that pen on Etsy for a while, Alan. I'm very interested to hear your take on the quality of the metal and the knurling. It is also surprisingly light. From the look of it, I expected a heavy pen. The section looks like the same kind of textured aluminum of the Moonman T1 which is not unpleasant or slippery at all. I have a bottle of the KWZ Sheen Machine and it is a stunning ink. I've found that it coagulates in the pen and become fairly sticky if you leave the pen too long. I had to clean out my Penbbs 308 because of it. But the incredible sheen is amazing to behold! Thanks for the cool pen review!
Yeah, some inks are just like that.
Diamine Ancient Copper is notorious for getting crusty, Akkerman SBRE Brown does it to some extent as well. So far, I've not seen it with this pen as the Hongdian seems to have quite a good seal. Time will tell...
exactly the kind of video I was searching for
Thanks, Alan. I like this pen. Inked it right out of the box and it writes beautifully. I am noticing that the blue coating,
plating, whatever it is, is coming off of the nib, not peeling, just sort of disappearing. Inked it with Noodler's Heart of
Darkness. At that price, I'm not surprised, but still... Seller offered 3 nib units for it separately for @ 10 bucks. I expect
to use this pen a lot, solidly made and writes great.
Try a Confucius Duke 551 with a huge Fude nib.. very heavy pen , but worth it for urban sketching. This pen is cool!
One of my favorite inks is the Noodlers Black-Blue.
This video made me purchase the same pen in black. Fude with the same ink. It's glorious! Great video, but sorry, the video doesn't do the ink justice.
If anyone is thinking of purchasing this ink, stop thinking and buy! But, then again, I haven't owned a fountain pen or ink since I was like 10... 'Still glorious! Thanks for testing.
Oh my goodness, I'm really lusting for that Sheen Machine ink! It looks so wickedly cool because it's a monster of a sheen! By the way, this is the first time I saw you reviewing an ink from KWZ. It's nice to review different inks from manufacturers you've not look into yet. They also have inks from 3 Oysters, Vinta, Papier Plume, Troublemaker, and Ferris Wheel Press.
So many inks...so little time.
@@WhatIInk That is I keep about 16 pens inked at all times. Choice of ink an nib at the ready. Refilling is of course fun, but with so many in rotation I can take two or three weeks before refilling. Once I am done I have a rainbow sheet of paper towel.
The converter on mine broke in 2 weeks. Will anything else fit? Nothing I have does.
That nib looks really cool and the curved fude looks well made, not the sharp turn of some others. Thanks!
The sharp turn makes it more of a calligraphy nib, as full time wide line engagement. The curve gives you the freedom to select at all times, and even vary the thickness during each stroke.
Hey, may I ask?
1) Are you familiar with Hongdian Black Forest?
2) I have such a writing style that my characters require thick upstrokes and thin downstrokes. I want to write with a fountain pen. Are there are special flex nibs for this or maybe there is a spexial method of using usual flex nibs but with a different orientation, angle etc...?
I purchased this pen along with a lamy safari last month as my first couple of fountain pens and it has set my bar so high. It was half of what I paid for the lamy and the nib (F) is so month and it writes so wet it's just a pleasure to use. I purchased a couple of moonman pens and a Jinhao but I keep wanting to go back to this one. The only bad thing is that the feed is too wet I keep staining my fingers cuz I grip too close to the feed and it tends to leak inside the cap so sometimes I get ink droplets everywhere when I take the cap off.
YOU should do a review of a Duke 551 fountain pen with a Fude nib.
Lovely pen. I have the Black forest and it i also a looker. The fude is not very practical for everyday writing, but I find it basically perfect as a highlighter pen with a bright colour when I'm taking notes. Glad to habe someone clear out (at least to me) that rhodia is indeed "good enough" for monster sheen, and if one's not getting any out of a "monster sheen" ink it is most likely due to the nib not being wet/broad enough. Now I need to get a bottle of this one!
Love the highlighter idea! Never thought of that. Thanks!
@@anitasamuel-george5788 You aren't the only one, as Noodler's Ink has a whole line of highlighter inks just for that purpose.
I got two of these (in black). They were my first fountain pens. I love the way they feel in the hand, and they way they write. However, I found they cap seal on both is comically weak. They dry out noticeably after a day or two. If not for that (and it appears your copy works well in this regard) it would be a favorite pen, as it is they are somewhat unusable.
I own a Black Forest fine nib. And while it's the fastest drying pen I've ever used (the cap is all but useless), it's quite fun writing with it. All black pen, inked with Diamine Crimson.
I have the HongDian Black Army General, which I got with a fude and a 0.5mm nib. Wonderful wonderful writer. I swapped out the fude after playing with it for a while, but it has potential.
The BAG is a 'homage' to the Faber-Castell e-Motion, but has a character of its own. I was initially tempted by a Black Forest, but this blue option is a real good looker, and has gone on my list...
@archivist17 I resisted the Black Forrest, but the Dark Blue Forrest and the blue nib seduced me, and I ordered one a couple days ago, which gets to me next week. So when I saw the review I watched it, even though I already had it on the way.
Looks like a Retro 51 Tornado fountain pen to me? That said I’d get one for the Fude nib.
Came for the pen, left to buy some KWZ ink. Lol
Don’t have the fudge, but I like this tasty solid little pen. The slim size makes it a little uncomfortable over extended write, but the fine nib works beautifully and consistently.
Beautifull
This is a very cool writer but I would like to let everyone know that I have the Stealth black. Be careful with deterioration of the finish on the pen. My black pen leaves little black specks on white paper and on my hand all the time.
That is some ink!: I’ve already got OS’s Nitrogen and Diamine Skull &Roses - not sure I need another one!; great vid, thanks :)
KWZ Sheen Machine is waaaaaaay better than those you mention, besides, the smell of Mr. Konrad's inks is delicious and intoxicating (in a good sense, of course). You should try at least a sample, you won't look back after that...
omg!: ok then, I’ll give it a try - have (yet another) wee Pilot Prera blue demonstrator which will definitely have to be inked with something, like: Alan and Mr/Ms.ink.tempter - you both have a lot to answer for!:)
Mr, not Ms: sorry!:)
Saw the ink, and wondered if it was Nitrogen, then it dried, and there was just sheen, so I knew it was Sheen Machine. Even called it as I wasn't watching alone, so that was fun. Must order it. Just have couple of Diamine sheening inks.
A lot of artists use fude nibs for drawing/sketching.
Thank you!🧑🏻
Do you know if the nib is replaceable?
It is.
This is just my aesthetic.
I am considering buying this pen. Someone said they feel the seal is poor and the pen dries out in a few days. How do you feel about the seal. I’m wondering if he got a bad seal. I love the pen. Really cool. Thanks for reviewing this pen. Have not found many other reviews.
I didn't have any issues...it also depends on what ink you're using.
How many mils in that ink bottle please? Looks like large bottle .
60ml
Fude nibs shine in sketching and drawing.
Look at dat sheen! Its pink!
How’s the drying time for the ink?
About average. Depends on the paper. It takes a bit longer on Tomoe River, like all inks do.
Watch the video, when it is all sheen it is dry. It is fun watching the sheening inks dry.
does the fountain pen take in international size cartridges?
It should
@@WhatIInk Can you try using it? I have gotten some conflicting information on this matter.
@@hadva2 Good thing you asked...tried it...doesn't fit.
@@WhatIInk RIP I gotta buy bottled link lol, thanks for trying.
Alguien sabe que tinta es esa?
KWZ Sheen Machine
Can you please revisit the Ranga Majestic pen and possibly make a new long term review? I have not seen any other video of that pen in particular! Thanks!
Perhaps in the future. Is there something specific about this pen you'd like to know?
@@WhatIInk actually I have ordered a Ranga giant 9B after watching your reviews and awaiting arrival, and already considering my next pen from them. I really wanted to see a comparison video of all the Ranga pens you have shown till now, like a "best of Ranga pens" sort of. Thanks.
@@humanfirst11 Hummm... That's a good idea, I'll consider it for a future video. I'll give you a sneak preview if I was to do such a comparison: The winner would be the Ranga Model 5, with the #8 Bock 18K nib.
@@WhatIInk yeah just re watched that video and it really liked it a lot! Just a question, is the model 5 larger than Giant 9B?
@@humanfirst11 It is. Actually, I misspoke in the Model 5 video. The pen I call a 4CS is actually a Giant 9B, so you can see them side-by-side right here:

I think the pen is great. I just wish I'd purchased a medium rather than the fude nib. It's utility for my typical uses is minimal.
Just when I received mine, in black, I find that there is one in blue ... Overall, I really liked the pen. Very good for daily use; a "workhorse" pen. Thanks for the review.
@Nelson F. The blue just started to appear recently. I resisted the black, as I have other all black pens, but all blue, that is new.
Can’t to get one
