    When I first saw jess x i could see the uses. This thing took me a minute to appreciate. I don't like how it looks, but as a tool i can see how it would be a decent if not great chopping/woodworking tool. That being said i don't think id want one. Id have to try one and love it to want one i think. Its prob a great tool, it just doesn't jump out at me like it seems to with other people.

      ^^^This is how you post a fair comment while keeping reserved about something, especially having not used it.^^^ Already had two people completely spaz out like jackasses with F-bombs. That just adds to my thumbs-down count because pretty soon they'll figure out why they don't see their comments. Never understand how screwed up someones life must be to be triggered into a screaming tirade by a video on CZcams. Baffles me.

    I have had my M18 for around 2 years now and I can't imagine my hiking/camping life without it! it is not made to be put on a shelf, it's made to work and be abused and it takes anything you can give it like a champ. It's such a versital tool it's taken the place of many of my old go to knives and the attention to the ergo details T.M. Hunt put into my custom wood handle makes it fit my hand like a glove! it's definitely an investment and not a knife for those who just wish they could utilize a knife properly in the wilderness, it is something that will be utilized in my family for generations to come. I don't regret the purchase for a second my only regret is I don't have 2. looking forward to the full review Chris, I know you'll have fun with it on your excursion this weekend!

  • @cdwright5166
    @cdwright5166 Před 7 lety

    I love my M18. Todd and Rick are great guys to deal with. I know the price tag will turn a lot of people off to this blade. You guys just need to take into consideration that these take HOURS to make and are 100% made by hand in America with quality American O1 tool steel. The workmanship in this knife is second to none, it's absolutely bombproof. I believe this knife has been featured on naked and afraid more than a few times now from two different people. There is a reason for that, again, it's bombproof! At the end of the day, yes there are factory knives that can do the same tasks, but once you hold any of Todd's work in your hand, you'll understand the difference between a factory blade and a custom. You'll also know exactly which one you would want out in the bush. Good review Chis.

  • @Varikas1986
    @Varikas1986 Před 7 lety +2

    Ι like the philosophy of the knife as a tool that changes everything on it to its basic core. Tools are made to make you do the work, not be pretty. This chunk of steel proves that. I like it. Part tracker-ish, part Becker-ish and part Orc-ish but to its own extend. This blade has a badass personality.

  • @alaskaraftconnection-alask3397

    Nice looking Chris... I'll add looks like suitable thought process throughout design (and yes - interesting). Most intriguing is that it appears to have accuracy, efficiency, with balance and egos (plus good materials)... Features and performance that interest me the most on wilderness tools. Looking forward to part 2! -- thank you -- PS. Looking green down there... lakes and rivers still iced here while snow patches marble the landscape... but spring is in the air, and my raft shop is busy with folks getting ready for boating season.

    Thanks for the video. Probably my favorite custom maker out there. It's definitely an unorthodox design but considering the practicality of Todd's other knives like the Yuma and Magua I'm sure all of the odd elements are there for a reason. Definitely on my short list to own.

  • @smithjacusmc

    I watched a vid with T.M Hunt and averageiowaguy, and Hunt eluded to a friend that asked him to make a Tracker copy, Hunt does not really like the Tracker, so him and his friend morphed it into the M18 with what they thought was the best use of the contours and length. at the time he was using Becker handles, but as you say, not now. pretty cool knife, I like the SXB also, but, i own and use the Tracker, It is an odd looking knife with a perticular method of use, if one does not get it...the knife is a waste of money. thanks, great vid.

    Recurved blades never do really good at feather sticks. It will do good with curls. But a feather stick is when the curl actually stays on the stick. Recurves have a strong tendency to cut the curl off the stick. Straight blades are best for that task.

    Hey, Chris...if you see this, could you answer a question for me? This looks like an awesome blade. I'm looking for a couple of big choppers. One is definitely going to be the B R JX5 Vengeful 1 and the 2nd is going to be either this M-18 or the TOPS El Chete. My question to you would be, which one would you choose for yourself if you could only have one? I'm leaning towards the El Chete mainly because I absolutely love TOPS knives. The quality of their blades is outstanding and their heat treatment makes it possible for their 1095's stand with any super steel. I ask you cause - 1) you seem honest, straightforward, trustworthy...and 2) you have very sound judgment that seems to be in line with my own...especially, when I am unable to do a side by side comparison without having to buy both blades to do so. Take care.

    That part was actually based on the tracker. Not that other knife you showed. Cleaver and Tracker with a Becker handle. The interview with T.M. Hunt about the M18 was done durning a Becker event where he brought it(first time I believe... it's been a while).

    I think of warriors, vikings and mad max. That would dominate the battlefield. When you get back from battle, you can do some feathering and knotches or make a spoon out of a tree. Heck of a knife. You don't want to as they say in baseball " swing and a miss " than it would be, did someone hear me yell one mile a way or five miles a way.

    Not for me as this design isn't what I'm used to. The use as a chopper/draw knife would work but for actual cutting chores and piercing it would seem to be difficult. I'd prefer the Tops SXB at 1/2 the price of the M-18.

    Actually, it reminds me of the Older Military Tools like the Phillipines Insurection Bolos, the WW2 era Woodsmans Pal, etc. You know, tough stuff that might be issued to a Squad for setting up a Base Camp in rough parts of the World. Wouldn't be surprised if a couple of the M-18s are floating around Afghanistan. You're right, it probably fits best with someone running a Trap Line up North or in a Hunting Cabin in Ontario. A Professional Tool for Professional Wilderness people. Betcha Wayne at Kullkraven could put it through the Wringer! BTW, did you know someone Hacked your Intro? ; ) Take Care.

    Haven't seen part two yet, but so far the M-18 hasn't really done anything in this video that a decent parang or machete or kukri couldn't do. Perhaps even a well-dressed lawnmower blade could replicate this testing. Not having seen part two, my impression is that it's a gimmick knife.
    I'm not sure who would be carrying that. It doesn't look like a stand alone knife. I'd still want a proper belt knife and probably a Swiss Army knife, too. So, now it's just extra weight for...? 'Just in case'?
    And if I have a belt knife and a folder.....wouldn't I be better off with a decent axe for chopping?
    I could see the M-18 having a possible role as part of an aircrew's survival kit. One per plane. Perhaps a bush pilot's survival kit. Even then, I'm not sure I wouldn't rather spend less money to have an OKC survival knife like the SP-53 in the survival kit or just a good old-fashioned Collins machete.

      Louis Becke I apologise for that. but its only because it sells. so, on my end not a bad problem to have. Blade is next week so dont plan on the site to have much for the next month or so. but after that, we will slowly be restocking it. thanks for your patience.
