Was Steve Evans the originator of the Sunday Sunday Sunday?

I had to look this up just to be sure. Good thing I did!
Jan C. Gabriel (1940 - January 10, 2010) was a Chicago-area motorsport announcer who is best known for popularizing the motorsport phrase "Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!"

@supertubr Thank you for that. I always wondered. So little info on Steve Evans a facinating guy. I became aware of him late 80s as a kid. Your channel is amazing. Did you ever meet him?

@@edgarbeat2851 there has never been a commentator quite like Steve Evans. The guy was a walking encyclopedia on motorsports, he knew his subject very very well and could talk it. He was even in the movies. He was a racer back before he became a PR guy for NHRA so he certainly had experience. But no, i never met him.

@supertubr I saw Heart Like a Wheel aged four in 1988 and was hooked. Used to get recording from my brothers friend who had satellight TV. Used to beg my bro to get recording. From Scotland 😊 so coverage was sporadic at best. I subscribed the moment I discovered. My favourite era is 1989 and 1990 seasons. I don't really go beyond 1993. I was sad when Steve Evans passed away. His knowledge was incredible and never got hyper but sometimes emotion. Especially when commentating the Johnny West crash. If it was UK they would go nuts though Murray Walker was the best UK commentator. Steve just had a coolness and passion. Eddie Hill and Gary Ormsby were favourites.
I sadly find NHRA Impossible to watch these days the announcers with the BLAMO and KABOOM phrases. Sad seeing empty seats. I still keep an eye on technology, but it's just not the same 1000ft.

@@edgarbeat2851 Steve Evans is missed by many even to this day. Him, Dave McClelland and Brock Yates represented an era in commentating that just doesnt exist anymore. And yeah Im not a big fan of those blamos and booms sell jobs either.
