Lyrics:
Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon?
Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon?
We could float among the stars together, you and I
For we can fly (we can fly)
Up, up and away
My beautiful, my beautiful balloon
#The5thDimension #UpUpAndAway #OfficialAudio
My late husband was in Vietnam in 1967 when this song came out, and it meant so much to him, to think about being able to escape the war in a beautiful balloon.
this sounds like an airline commercial.
@@karlhelm875TWA in the 70s, I believe.
My dad was in Nam in '67
❤🙏💫🎶Here in NM the Fiesta is so incredible.
It was 1967 and dad's friend from work had just bought himself a new stereo system. He asked dad if he knew of anyone who might like to have his old component hi-fi and AM tuner, all tube-based. Dad brought it home and gave it to me. 13-year-old me was THRILLED to bits! It was right when this song came out, and it sounded fantastic!
I don't know what tube-based means, but that's a great re-gift 🤩That's great that your dad's friend asked around instead of selling it at a yard sale or something.
Somebody PLEASE invent a time machine and take us all back to the mid to late 60s! Classic 5th Dimension!
Yes please. Get me out of this hellscape into a better time.
This song makes me feel lighter than air
Yep, let's go back to forced conscription to Vietnam, the Cold War, astronomical taxes, rampant racism and sexism, smoking permitted everywhere 🙄
Can I come with?
@@bruce1947 Yeah y'all aren't minorities I see, I'm good on going back to segregation
I had never heard this song until my aunt was on her deathbed, a week ago. She was special needs. She loved music and my aunts played this song for her, while she was no longer able to open her eyes or speak, because it was one of her favorite songs when she was a kid. She ended up passing away that evening, and I can't forget about this song since then because of the lyrics. Up up and away my beautiful...❤. Rest in peace Tia Martha. We miss you so much already.
The muppets
Sorry for your loss. I was 6 yrs old when this came out. I remember it well. It was also a theme song for a commercial for bread.
They don't make masterpieces like this now days!

💯
Damn right a brilliant masterpiece❤❤❤
I’m 60. I’m so glad my parents loved this music. The 5th, Burt Bacharach, Brazil 66, Momma’s and the Poppa’s, etc
I First Heard This Song 40 Years Ago 57 Now Love This Song
It Has That Tune
Almost 60 years later, my soul and spirit continue to soar with this song!
It’s Time…🥰
I remember hearing this a child on the radio...I loved it back then.
ME TOO. IT SOUNDS LIKE AN AIRLINE COMMERCIAL.
@@karlhelm875 It was used in a bread commercial. Nimble Bread it was called...,early 70s advert. I remember it played often on Pete Murray show and Jimmy Young show
in early years of BBC Radio Two.
@@voicezful thanks I knew it was for some bread but forgot

Same!
Sure seems like popular music was a lot happier back then. And all the bands had their own sound.
"And all the bands had their own sound". So true. Good observation.

@@stanleydavis7904 Did you watch the doc? Really good.
At age nine, this electrifying masterpiece blasted while I swung on the swings on bright, sunny mornings with a cool breeze blowing. My grandparents always had the oldies station blaring. Literally my very best childhood memories.
p.s.- I still swing on the swings when this song is blasting (when nobody is looking.) Also Like To Get To Know You by Spanky and I Saw Her Again by Mamas/Papas.
@@gmail4218 my god, you must've been hell of fun!

Well said well bloody said for real
Why cant music be like this anymore? The world was so full of love!!!
It is, go look for it
I think you've hit the nail on the head. Beautiful song.
The public got burnt out on the violence of the 1960s and 70s.
Well apart from the Vietnam war, northern Ireland, cold war etc... Rose tinted glasses. We are actually in better Times

Tears came down when she started to sing: The world's a nicer place in my beautiful balloon, it wears a nicer face in my beautiful ballon😢❤
This song makes me happy and sad the memories come back yo me as a child thank you for your songs 5th dimension God bless ❤😢😊
Oh man........I am in my 70s now but feel 50 yrs younger listening to this song. Really love that era.
When it comes to beautiful, tight harmonies, the Fifth Dimension is up there with the Mamas and the Papas and Spanky and Our Gang. Nobody does it better.
Definitely, also the Moody Blues, maybe 3 Dog Night!
Those are hard rock bands with harsh vocals. @@ianstuart5660
Those two cannot hold a candle.
Not even close to having THREE BROTHERS HARMONIZE : THE BEEGEE'S , YOU PLEBS.
The Bee Gees were weird and their songs were not as good.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written and sung 🎈✨💖
IMO it's one of the most depressing songs ever written
Good call. Up Up and Away truly is one of the most awesome songs...and the vocals are out of sight.
Written by Jimmy Webb
Man this feels so good even in 2022 😊
I love old school music.
That it does Charles! I'm 59 years Young
I have loved this song since I was about 8 years old. It was on a record my parents had of Space songs. The whole album was amazing.
I love Aquarius as well.
What a song. So positive.
I'm 48 now. Still positive.
Luv and Peace.
This song always depresses me 🙁🙁🙁
I lived it as a child. It was magical and indelible in my heart! At 69, it still gives me chills when I hear it.

Marilyn McCoo captured my heart with this song as a child. She still has it. 🥰
The 5th Dimension = Marilyn McCoo and other people.
@@clarenceday4773 I agree that Marilyn is absolutely one of the most beautiful and talented singers of her time, but Florence LaRue is holds her own in both those departments as well.

This is a pure classic. Nonstop good music. Thank God I am old enough to have heard this music when it came out. Danced all over the house with my older sister, my brothers dancing too. Up Up and away!!!!
I remember listening to this on the radio with my Mom in the lKtchen in our home in Pittsburgh Pa
This was the first song I heard on radio when we all first landed at SFO in 1967 as new immigrants from the Philippines. I was 14 years old then. Such a wonderful beautiful song! It will always have a special place in my heart.
A Supreme Standout Timeless Anthem From An Era Of Unbelievable Music.

Love this song so much. It's always comforting and uplifting when the sadness, darkness, and injustices of the world seem overwhelming.
This song is rather depressing IMO

I'd like to know what in the world is depressing about this song? To me it's uplifting
This supernatural masterpiece excites, invigorates, and electrifies me with a passion for living.
The Fifth Dimension did not just move mountains, they moved the entire universe.
The lyrics, harmony and the orchestra are up, up and away! Thanks!
The chords in the outro are depressing 😥😥😥

I just heard this song in the Hilton in Rio (from the UK), I’m 35 and this is one of the best happy songs I’ve ever heard! Love it! ❤
I keep hearing this on the radio
NO REGRETS
I envy you
How's it up there
LOL 🤣
I was Bar Mitzvahed in February, 1969. This was the theme song, and my mom had large balloons as centerpieces on each table.
one of the greatest groups that came out in the late sixties, there music was great, they had talent could sing, and had the looks, too bad groups like this are not around.
What a song. Very well produced, and engineered. Amongst the lyrics and singing.
Beutifull in it
Love that the Wrecking Crew helped made a beautiful background tracking on this one
The recording levels are all off. Lots of distortion.
A song way before it's time by The Fifth Dimension ( a very real concept these days). I remember this as a little girl and how I could float away on the waves of music. Even to this day once in a while it plays in the background of my dreams. And it never fails to bring a heightened positive vibration to anyone who listens to this magical song.
Awesome
WOW UPLIFTING! !
This really is an uplifting song
This beautiful balloon lifts my spirits ❤️

I used to play this on my little record player when I was a kid. My brother and I would play it on 78, instead of 45, and laugh to the chipmunk sounding voices singing! LOL childhood memories...
Omg you’ve just unlocked a memory I used to do this at my grandmas house what a time
I just returned from Vietnam. The wife and I took another honeymoon. UP UP and Away. This was a hit at the time.
I remember my parents playing this when I was a little girl. I’m 52 and still love this song as much as I did then.
I 2nd that ❤️.. @54
Love the drama and the power in those horns and drums. Wrecking Crew were just epic
I was about 4 -5 years old when this was hitting the airwaves hard, and I remember always looking up to the sky if this song was playing loud from someones house as we played in the yard. As a child, I loved the 5th dimension!
The great Jimmy Webb, composer
I miss my youth
In 1967 I was involved in a serious car accident..i was in hospital for several weeks.when I can out I had to recuperate at home for a couple of months..i listened to the radio a lot..this was a song that brings back memories of that summer
Glad you were ok!!
Wow - the Wrecking Crew killed on this. Hal's drumming and rolls at the fade. The string and horn arrangement from Paich with the amazing descending cello part on the second part of the verses. All the guitar parts; killer bass and keys. Imagine being in Sound Recorders in the middle of the room when they cut that. Another Jimmy Webb classic. Love to recut this using modern studio recording, strings and keeping as close to the original as possible. That'd be a blast. And exhilarating.
Mama Cass Elliot's Wrecking Crew? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA If only you know what lurked in Laurel Canyon.......................... this is a BAD copy of Sergio Mendez and Tom Jobim........and none of them killed people in the presence of JOHN HOLMES...........
Who was playing guitar? It sounds like Tommy Tedesco.
@@californiaslastgasp6847 You're right. It is Tommy Tedesco, RIP. He was so prolific as a session guitarist that he only recalled playing on the track when someone reminded him!
Some songs are better off left untouched. Redoing this one would be sacrilege. Most of the Wrecking Crew are long gone. Other performers would only cheapen this masterpiece song.
I'm Hearing You..... This was Just WOW !!!! Still Hittin in 2023 ☺☺😎👊💪💪💯💯💖
I played this song every night at the roller rink my dad owned back in the late sixties. Fifth Dimension was one of groups of the day that made growing up in this time the best. Marilyn McCoo had one of the best voices of the time too along with Karen Carpenter.

Not quite rock. Closer to jazz if you ask me

I agree 100% they were great. But it’s the wrong genre for Rock and Roll. Inducting them would’ve turned a few heads and not in a good way.

This has been playing in my head frequently since I was 3 years old. I wonder what songs will today’s kids hear that stick with them?

Saw them in concert great music
Hello old Fella! Thats a great Song. I Love it too
Saw them live ? ...Wow u were Blessed..
I certainly imagine they put on a great show.
Such beautiful music this group entertained us with. Really defined an era of breezy California sunshine, at least in my mind this is where I go.
Music certainly was art back then, and it didn't have to be full of innuendo and/or swearing in order to sell either!!🎈
Zappa, Beefheart, Al Stewart, Sweet Thursday, Jefferson Airplane, Velvet Underground, etc. all pushed topic and language boundaries. And they contributed greatly to the art of 1960s music production.
And Lou Reed wasn't singing about heroin-hooked trans women and BDSM just to get sales. When he wanted to go commercial, he sang somewhat nicer songs like "Sweet Jane."
So yeah, there's always been profane and explicit music. On major labels, no less.
