- Answering common questions about this video: Yes, Bear is really blind. (found dehydrated and almost dead as a stray kitten, most likely rejected by his mother. His eyes are not fully formed and are about the size of peas with no pupils. Cats are quite good at using their other senses to get around.) It is 2016, Kilroy is now 12 years old and he and Bear are still best buddies. Dobermans are wonderful dogs and extremely intelligent, but you should be a person who is willing to spend time training them. They HATE being alone. They are bred to be 100% devoted to their family, especially one person. Only get a Dobe if you plan to spend time training it and spending time with it. Kilroy cost $1500 back in 2004. Purchased from Joan Firestone, "Dedos Dobermans". Since the first few months I bought him I fostered 26 rescued dogs and cats and Kilroy was gentle and loving to each and every one of them.
Absolutely. I would describe an untrained Doberman as high strung rather than vicious. They are not naturally vicious. But since they are easily trained, obedient, and loyal, they make great body guards :-)
How cute is it when she smiles and holds her paws in front of her face?? lol And its quite impressive how the cat uses all her other senses to get around...you would hardly be able to tellhe/she was blind if you didn't know !
I walk dogs for a living and one of the sweetest, most gentle dogs I ever walked was a 140 lb. Dobe. I admit I was a little intimidated at first by his size - I am a 5'2, 105 lb. woman. But I had nothing to worry about. After the walk we went back to the house where I sat down in a chair. The big guy came over and laid his big sweet head in my lap. I have nothing but good feelings for these fierce-looking but utterly calm, intelligent dogs.

I haven't seen a red dobie in years! As a young girl, my best friend had one, I knew him from when he came home with them to an adult.....you just don't see them as much anymore....Barbara in Pennsylvania

I had my first two Dobermans when I brought home a little six pound black cat. My female would put up with only so much of his nonsense before tossing him in the air with her muzzle, which ruffled his dignity. My male, however, stoically put up with no end of abuse. The cat particularly liked to bat him on the head from above, "anonymously." These dogs are definitely silly! Acting like a goofball one second, alerting you to a possible perimeter violation the next - gotta love 'em!
Yeah...those teeth look so intimidating but in reality they can be such sweet dogs :-)

Having a Dobie as a companion is one of the greatest pleasures of my life. So many of my great memories involve them. From walking miles and miles with a proud and obedient Dobie, to learning not to chase them down the mooring when they decide they don't like being afloat any more and jump for freedom and dry land.
He's like "put your paws in the air and wave em like ya just don't care"

What beautiful boy he is. Red and tan! I have had 4 Dobermans. Honestly they are my favorite breed of dog. I have had Labs and Huskies. I have had one Red and Tan girl and rest Black and Tan. They are the most loyal and lovable dogs that there is! I wouldn't choose another breed. Your boy is just gorgeous! I love his smile. My Jessie girl used to smile too! So cute!

Just a red dobie :-) When raised as a family dog they are all like this. The "mean" ones are simply doing what they are trained to do...be guard dogs :-)

I'm so sad, we wanted a doberman but the lats doberman in the adoption center was adopted to someone else.
What advice would you give someone considering buying a doberman? (especially if they have never owned one).

Kilroy passed away peacefully last month. I knew his time was near so we took a three day trip to the Shawnee National Forest preserve. he got to eat all his favorite foods and enjoyed hiking this beautiful area. at night we got to listen to our first mockingbird sing for hours. we held him and spoke to him as the vet put him down (he had terminal cancer and had stopped eating at this point). peaceful end to a wonderful 12 years.
For a cat whomis apparently blind he/she gets around really well. I don't think he/she is completely blind

He has lived in the same small house for years. He always walks on the perimeter. We know he is 100% blind because according to the vet, his eyes are not only very small and undeveloped, he has no pupils.
Smile? I think he's allergic to the damn thing....

Oh my word, Kilroy is ADORABLE! What a big lovey-boots, and he's got a GREAT smile. I could never get my Linus to smile on command, but he did it often when he met new people or saw people he loved. The kitty is adorable and Kilroy obviously takes great care of him :) Thanks for sharing your lovely family!
