- Trestle Bike Park in Winter Park, Colorado is full of jumps and drops and really thrilling trails. But it's also a perfect place to learn how to ride downhill for the whole family. But, I've found that some people don't know that, so I want to talk about it and show the other side of the mountain...so to speak.
Lets be friends!

I love this place. My first time there was on a trek 3500 with rim brakes in 2005 when I didn’t know a thing. I have been many times since and now in 2024 I can’t wait to take my son.
This is exactly the kind of video I was looking for! Hoping to bring the family for a first mountain biking adventure but I’ve been intimidated having never done it myself. This made me feel so excited! I’d love to see more locations.
I just retired and got a late start mtb. Thought I would check a beginner in Colorado and your video popped up. Wow! Well done. You just the bar pretty high for videos and info. Thanks. I subscribed.
As always, great episode Cody! Keep ‘em up!
Thanks again my friend!
Going tomorrow Amazing video
Genuinely loved every minute of this video. Well done!
*blush*
Thanks for making this video, perfect for me and my girlfriend who are going to this bike park next week and have never been to one before. She's a newbie to biking in general and definitely obstacles so this is super helpful!
That is fantastic to hear! I really do whole-heartedly recommend the lessons they offer. Have fun!
Like the other guys have commented, great video man. I like the way you put your videos together. I like that you talk about things that aren't beat to death by others. Honestly, I don't watch half of the videos in my feed anymore because it's the same clickbait crap all the time. I would put you in the top 5 on my feed and I'm always excited to see a new video from you.
Holy crap, man. That is like the best compliment I've gotten. I truly appreciate it!
You are welcome. I truly mean it.
Thank you this video was super helpful! We are a family that rides together and even though I've been riding 25 years I'm still an intermediate rider, and Trestle seems like it would be good all the way around for my experienced hubby and intermediate son. We will probably visit Trestle soon based on your review. Thanks again!
Right on! You will love it! Check back in when you do make it and let me know how it went.
Yep, I got my girls involved! Good family fun. Its great camping and biking and comparing scars around the campfire...but with a family "N+1 bikes", takes on a whole new meaning!
That is awesome!
Where did you camp?
Me and my dad ride dirt bikes so when we got here we just sent it and we had a blast.
Awesome!
excellent video and also promotion to go ride damn bikes, inspirational indeed, thank you V!
Thank you again! I always appreciate your feedback!
Man I'd kill for something like this in California. I plan to move to Colorado in the near future so I can't wait
Good one Cody. I have to get to one of these places...stay safe!
You really do need to check one out. You'd love it!
Thanks for including us in your video. That was fun.
I assume this is Fred. If not please correct me. but if it IS Fred, thank you for letting me ride with you. You guys are awesome!
@@LunchRide Yep, it is Fred. We had a great time and hopefully we make it out to Trestle again next year.
I’ll have to get there next Colorado trip. Good video
There is an intense XC trail for Carter too!
Nice. A subject no one else hits. Keep this up and you'll grow faster. I must have missed the manual on the trail.
One day that manual will make an appearance! Ha ha ha! I promise....
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for this video! I moved to CO last year and just started mountain biking, I was kind of intimidated by the thought of bike parks because I was envisioning super GNAR double black diamond everything but it's great to know they cater to all levels!
Thank you, Lauren! There is something to ride for everyone, and I think that there will be more beginner/intermediate terrain opening every year at every park. Hope you are loving it in Colorado!
Thanks for great video. Let’s us old guys know wouldn’t be a wasted trip to drive 900 miles and be over our heads
Exactly! Thanks for watching!
Great video and thanks for sharing!! I only just went to my first bike park (Keystone) a couple of weeks ago and it was really helpful to ride a couple of green trails first and then work your way up to blue and maybe black. Next time you're out here we should try to go to a park together!
I would love that so much! It's on!
Trestle has a good progression of trails, and you can do a full run of the mountain without a big jump in difficulty, not all bike parks are that way. With some the green trails are only at the bottom, with others like Silver Mountain in Idaho, the greens are at the top, but you have to be comfortable on a mid/upper blue to do a full run of the mountain, or you're riding the gondola back down.
For the green and maybe the blue would a hard tail bike be okay to ride?
Man, I wish I could get my family to ride but they just look at me like a dog that’s just heard a high pitch sound😁
Hahaha that’s hilarious. Hilarious because I know exactly the look you are talking about!
Great vid Cody. Convinced me to choose Trestle as our first real mountain adventure. I see a lot of the ppl in the video with knee pads that go all the way down over the shins. Are there that many rocks or maybe just their preference? If Covid doesnt shut the mountain down again, then we are on the way for a week. We ride as a family of five 2-3 times a week (70-80 miutes per ride) XC in hot central Texas, very rocky and flat. Lots of pedaling. We will be in good shape, less the altitude change. Do you recommend eye protection as we have never needed it here, but we sure aren't going as fast as we probably will be at WP. Thanks again for the tips and the video.
Great comment. I'm so excited for you and the fam! As I read, remember to book your tickets 48 hours ahead, as they are only issuing a limited amount per day!
The shin/knee pads are the standard issue if you rent the full pad set up from the shop. It's not really about the rocks as the pedals, or anything else when crashing on a jump.
Your fitness will help but understand that this is a totally different style of riding, you will rarely pedal, and rarely will your butt be in the saddle. Think of it as "How long can you do a wall squat?" It's awesome and fun and totally exhausting.
I would recommend eye protection on any ride at any time, but especially up there. Even beginners will be going much faster than usual with pokey pine trees lining the trails. The trails are very dusty, plus the high altitude means a great increase in UV rays. On a clear warm day, you can get a pretty good sunburn in ten minutes. No joke. And while your eyes might not burn like they would on the snow they will thank you at the end of the day for wearing some pro!
Good luck, have fun. Take a lesson if you can, even as an adult it's totally worth it! And remember to charge the GoPros!
@@LunchRide Great info. My kids are 9, 10 & 13. We are definitely all going to do a lesson as a family on 1st day. Do you recommend a half day or a full day to start off? Thanks again friend.
Excellent video. What bike were you riding?
