      Palpatine was never xenophobic. That was Plageius idea from the start. He basically told him to be a racist because it would help him gain votes. It's the same thing Mc.Cain did against Obama only that it worked. Also i'm guessing the controls and all that were a security measure due to the possibility of rebellion. In the old republic era there was a huge robot war and ever since then droids have been kept underfoot. Stuff like memory wipes, restraining bolts, and the like were originally meant to prevent another rebellion. And the Lukerhawk's control computer was meant to be an easy access off button for the Trade Federation in the event that their droids rebel.

  • @gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954
    @gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954 Před 5 lety +10

    The biggest weakness of the CIS has to be poor leadership that further compounds a lack of original thought or tactical awareness in the Droid forces themselves. The Droids are predictable and mostly lack the ability to react to changing circumstances, and their leaders are either more droids with the same flaws, or mercenaries who will be a mixed bag in terms of command competency (some more experienced and tactically and strategically savvy, some less so), but will all share the attribute that, as mercenaries, their motivation is profit. They lack any kind of true commitment to the Separatist cause beyond their bank balance. When their own lives are on the line, they will quickly decide that discretion is the better part of valour, and could easily be convinced to turn on the Separatists should they receive a better offer from someone else.
    In a sense, the CIS is a strange case - the Droids themselves are essentially fearless and don't need to worry about unit level morale at all, but the mercenary leaders are as untrustworthy and fly by night as mercenaries pretty much always are, and lack anything approaching a true will to fight should their own lives be imperilled for the most part, leaving the CIS with a critical weakness with regard to combat morale in the most damaging point in the command chain - the top.

    • @rnukes
      @rnukes Před 5 lety

      that lack of leadership is only true of the mass produced droids. The T-series tactical droid were compantent with the Super tactical droid being on par with all but the best

    • @gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954
      @gregorygreenwood-nimmo4954 Před 5 lety +1

      @@rnukes The bulk of the strength of the CIS was the mass produced Droids, and there can't always be a tactical Droid to hand to make every squad level battlefield decision that a decent NCO could make in an army that had NCOs, or for that matter ship captain level decision for the very large number of CIS ships without their own Tactical Droids. Sooner or later, it would come down to a call made by an individual squad or ship level leader, and the Droids in that role were woefully inadequate to the task
      Also, if the Tactical Droids were so proficient, why weren't they in overall charge of critical operations? Basically any operation of real importance was under the command of an organic leader. Either that means that the Tactical Droids weren't up to the task, or the Separatist Parliament doubted the prudence of leaving Tactical Droids in command of major forces, since they suspected that they might turn on their creators. Either way, the utility of Tactical Droids as command assets is clearly severely limited.

    As for the droids being the way they are: I propose the theory that since sentient AI came rather early in SW and with it a humanoid form it makes sense that they would give the droids the "manned positions" that were already there for the humans. It worked, became cheaper to do so, and as such it continued. Don't fix what ain't broke am I right?
    Not only that, in case of an EMP wiping out your entire droid crew, the organics on board can still assume direct control of the ship (to some extent) whcihc in combat is useful compared to Allans more efficient but more vulnerable design
    That's the good thing about SW ships. They may not be "efficient" but they don't give their enemies efficient ways to beat them.

    The CIS on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the best...
    2, at best. Such an automated fighting force that relies on automatons to battle is not going to do well in the long run. Not only would a computer AI ultimately become predictable that can be beaten, it also carries the major weakness of being shut down completely and not even being able to use its strength of numbers to its full advantage.
    This is seen heavily in "The Phantom Menace" with the Battle of Naboo. The most critical part of the battle was the attack on the droid control ship over Naboo, as it would shut down the droids and leave the Trade Federation's leaders without protection with which to do anything. And while the CIS would take steps to avoid this in the Clone Wars, there was still a master control switch that could turn droids on and off on every battlefront. Now, thankfully for the Droid Army this wasn't exploited until the end of the Clone Wars...
    But then, it should be noted that no one on the Republic ever seemed to ask the question on "is there an off switch?" And admittedly it was a viable question, given that Anakin/Vader shuts down all the droids from Mustafar in "Revenge of the Sith." Not to mention that the CIS military would be heavily vulnerable to electro-magnetic forces that could either slow their processing power or shut it down entirely... and in Star Wars where there is so much in the way of technological advancement... (and the fact that the Clone Wars TV series saw this vulnerability being exploited repeatedly) one would have to wonder how the CIS never figured out a way to shield their droids from this weakness or truly why they never bothered to... For if the brain isn't to advanced to turn... it wouldn't be a threat if protected against weapons that could short circuit the entire machine.
    Now... the CIS did have some organic troops, but never enough to really allow them to do well against any military force that stood against them... As in the Clone Wars, while the Republic had more than just Jedi and Clone Troopers they would have a fairly large number of dedicated troops and local militias. The Droids got some of this sort of support... but to a much lower scale, and without the droids of the CIS, what organics the CIS had wouldn't have the numbers for major combat.
    In this, while the Empire could theoretically rule the galaxy... the CIS really didn't. It could scare people, but its numbers and "mind" was too weak to do more than scare the galaxy... (though that was all part of the Sith's Grand Plan).

    • @SamuelJamesNary
      @SamuelJamesNary Před 5 lety

      @@christiandauz3742 - Perhaps, though any sort of warfare can prove financially costly and could bankrupt a country. Britain was bankrupt by the end of WW2 and America wasn't too far behind in that regard. Which would mean any sort of battle would be costly in either manpower or economical cost... And since much of the CIS's executive branch is dominated by corporate interests, those money issues would be a problem for them...
      But my primary criticism of the CIS remains that proverbial "off" switch. Any military that depends on automation THAT much is going to be extremely vulnerable to electronic warfare. And the CIS could never get away from that...
      Against foes that can't think outside the box and just fight an attritional battle, that sort of thing might work. But any faction that has a character or multiple characters that CAN think outside the box into all the vulnerabilities the CIS might have... the CIS would be doomed against that faction.

    On the scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best, I'd rate them as 4. Besides the fact that the battle droids had intelligence issues, the Separatist navy was handicapped by the fact that the CIS didn't have as much industrial infrastructure as the Republic which meant that the Republic could outlast them and eventually overwhelm them with sheer firepower.
    Despite these two big factors, the Separatist Navy had the early edge in sheer numbers and experience as they originally fought for big corporations who used the previously separate forces to fight against pirates or overrun weak worlds like Naboo.

And those ‘fixed turblaser shell guns’ you mentioned were actually proton torpedo launchers not turbo lasers.

  • @tba113
    @tba113 Před 5 lety

    Maybe this is a criticism of the Separatists as a faction in general, but they really didn't _need_ to do nearly as much as they did.
    Their big end-game goal was to leave the Republic, because the Republic was doing a crummy job of everything other than bickering and core-world power games. To that end, they didn't need to screw with the Jedi or invade a single world: all they needed to do was, ultimately, nothing. The Separatists have their own planets, a huge tech and industrial base, and a galactic shipping and transportation network, each with its own homegrown defense force, so it's not like the CIS needed Republic resources to deal with pirates or anything - and besides, the Republic mostly existed only on paper once you got beyond the core worlds anyway.
    But instead of just trying to, well, _Separate,_ the Separatists built war fleets by bolting cannons on merchant freighters, to support invasion armies made of Commercial Off-The-Shelf rent-a-cops, all led by career bean-counters, technocrats, Company Men, and financiers.
    No offense to her, but there's a reason that Debra from HR probably shouldn't be made an admiral.

      and imagine a cylon like brain that recovered vulture droid AI and learnt from the battles, they could mount it inside the massive captial ships, or a cloaked brain ship, which if used for only this purpose could stealth easily, it'd be great for following waves to have data that they'd already got first hand from the battle.

    Off topic, but did Dooku know Palpatine's final plan regarding order 66 and the decapitation of the CIS?
    That this war all a ploy to set up a Sith Empire …?

    • @gilesbarnes7456
      @gilesbarnes7456 Před 5 lety

      Yes it is strongly suggested in the novelization of Star Wars episode 3 that Dooku knew everything and also hated non-humans and planned to wipe out the separatists because they were all alien. Also in the same source Dooku speaks with Palpatine about Anakin and his potential and it is implied that Dooku understood that Palpatine was grooming Anakin which would only make sense if he knew Sidious was going to re create the Sith Empire and Sith Order and so Dooku would still be around in a New Sith Order with Anakin and his master. Also in the Clone Wars season 5. The Kaminones I believe first contact Darth Tyannus (Dooku) about 5's chip malfunction which suggests that Dooku was actually the one that first ordered the chips to be created in the first place for the explicit purpose of order 66. That's the evidence but I have no clue. Star Wars is weird and I kind of don't get why Disney doesn't deal with the whole lore contradictions by saying history isn't clean with it's sources why should the history of a fictional universe be clean. The rebels won and may have made the Empire appear worse than it was and vice versa.

(that the corporations ended up running the seperatist warfront is of little note to this) and over all the Seperatists were quite ideological. just. a lot of different ideologies who could all agree they did not like the corruption of the republic.

    The covernant

  • @yagdtigercommander
    @yagdtigercommander Před 5 lety

    Well I rate them about a 3 out 5. The separatists By far weren't the worst faction but had many flaws as pointed out in the video. However the whole war was proxy war a conspiracy to over through the republic to make the Galactic Empire reality. But Palpatine was no fool in politics he knew he had to create a crisis to gain emergency powers to over throw the senate and assume full control ending the republic and turning it into the empire. So the Separatists had to lose but still have some strong forces to make the war and the republics victory believable in the public's opinion while use that victory to leverage power and brain wash the people into believing that the galaxy needs a strong government with Iron fist to keep order and other factions in line. As the Empire would get tough on crime and piracy especially giving citizens a reason to comply. But The Separatists and Battle Droids were just pawns and allies of palpatine to manipulate factions to have conflict with one and other. While in the background Palpatine is sitting his chair saying "Everything has Transpired as I have For seen". Then doing his evil laugh in secrecy while the clones and droids were mere fodder to the endless slaughter with both factions never really going to win as the clones were absorb into the empire before normal humans took over the storm trooper corp. So yes they didn't do well in the sense of going to win the war. But they played there part well in the sense of fooling people that this war was real and just but just fabricated lie to so the empire could rise. So as fellow actor in this theatrical show CIS did very well in its part to con the republic to becoming a dictatorship. But as war winning force no not by long shot. So consider that Generation films and Star Wars fans a like. The Clone Wars was all lies and deceit to brainwash people into accepting a totalitarian inter galactic government.
