thanks for making this series
@@AK-sj6vt yea no worries! Thanks for watching
@@RussellMidfield You the best
Haha thanks Sasson!
You have no idea how long I have been trying to get the sculpting process in Blender down. Your videos, of the thousands I have watched, have been the most helpful and constructive to a character design flow. Thank you so much for clearly showing and telling all of your processes as you work through sculpting this character!
Thanks Miles! I appreciate you saying that man, it means a lot! I'm glad they helped!
This is the most underrated tutorial I’ve ever seen. I’m so glad I found you!
Haha thanks Lydia! I'm glad if it helps!
For sure
Thanks Suno!
after watching the tutorial found myself saying "I hope he gets millions of great subscribers and views" This is the best tutorial I have watched, thanks for making it.
Haha thanks so much! You put a smile on my face! 😀
In sculpt mode, use alt-q to switch between sculpt objects. However over the target object and hit alt-q. Avoids switching to object mode, selecting another object, and switching back to sculpt mode. PS: great videos!
Thanks Corbin!
Mate. I've seen many sculpting tutorials in blender, but your videos are phenomenal. Clear, concise and brilliant. Keep up the awesome work mate.
Thanks John, appreciate you saying that! I'm glad if it helped!
Thank you! This video makes sculpting so much easier for me. Using several components instead of trying to create a face from one mesh is genius.
Yeah no worries, I'm glad it helped! Yeah I found it much much easier to block everything out first. Sculpting from just a sphere always ended up being a little bit of a mess for me haha.
Thank you for this series. Love the way you display short cut keys, very helpful!
Yeah no worries, I'm glad it helped! Yeah, shortcut keys are so helpful in Blender!
Instant sub for me! I love the way you are blocking the shape and then refining it ... have to give that a shot! Keep it up
Thanks man! Yeah, its a nice way to sculpt for me, do it kind of quick and dirty with big rough blocks and then do a second pass with a little more refinement in mind!
Wow 5 min into the video and I am rly impre on how professional this tutorial is... the fact you put pop-up shortcuts is impressive, very attentive! Thanks man, subscribed! 🤙
Yeah no worries Pedro! I'm glad they are helpful!
Great Video Russell!.... I love the way you didn't not time lapse any part of the Video.... Great Job, KEEP IT UP!!!
Thanks Oyesomi! Yeah I try and not do too much timelapse haha, I know it can be hard to follow when things move too fast! let me know if you have any questions though!
@@RussellMidfield
No questions so far, I just found your channel recently, so I started with this series.... And am not done with the part 1 of the tutorial just yet😕
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing it, Russell!
Yeah no worries abel! I'm glad if it helped!
Thanks 🙏🎩✌️🧨🧨🧨. Love this series...demonstration speaks louder than words.
Thanks John!
This series are very understandable. Thanks a lot !
You're welcome Seyda! I'm glad it helped!
Thank you so much Russell for your hard work.
Thanks for saying that Evri, appreciate it! 🙏
Please keep making such awesome tutorial 🙏
Thanks for the support! I will keep trying!
wow i just found your channel i always want to make stylized characters but didn't got any tutorial this is gold thanks subbed:)
Thanks, I hope it helps! Show me what you end up making! I love seeing people's Blender creations!
i love this!!! thx~💕
Thanks so much!
Quality stuff. Thank you very much!
Yeah no worries! Glad if it helped!
Amazing, thank you so much!
Thanks so much! Glad it could help!
Thanks man, this helped a lot!
No worries man, I'm glad it helped!
New subbie. Going through videos I've missed so far. I really enjoy the format of your tutorials. Thank you for making them.
Thanks Shinique! You haven't missed much lol! Thanks, I know they aren't the best but I hope that there is at least one tip somewhere in each video that is helpful for someone.
@@RussellMidfield Of course it does, and i have a question if you do not mind, did you go to a art school or self taught. I am trying to be a 3d artist as a job.
Thanks Sasson! You're awesome for saying that. I'm self taught, keep practicing and you'll be a 3d artist for sure
@@RussellMidfield Thx you so much, that means a lot.
You have the best tuts. Your workflow is really amazing but I feel like there was so much time involved in creating the base mesh of the eyes. I usually just add eyeballs and sculpt the eyelids ontop. My opinion. great video.
Thanks Rada! Yea I agree, every time I do it the eyes are a big chunk of time in each video. I'm not very good at sculpting haha, so whenever I try and sculpt in eyelids it ends up being an absolute mess and looks terrible.
I normally use Yansculpt workflow for the eyes and I have adopted yours now for the body and head. looking forward to finishing this series.
That's awesome, its good to try different workflows! Yansculpts is the king though haha, I've watched his mouth sculpting video about 100 times haha 😄
great tutorial!
You got my sub :)
Thanks so much! Let me know if you have any suggestions, i know they could use some work!
@@RussellMidfield i've always used substance painter to texture, but i wanna get into the blender node system, and texturing ofc, so that might be interesting. :D
Oh yeah for sure, texturing is so key, can make a nice model look ho hum pretty quick haha. Substance Painter looks incredible.
Great job!! M new subscriber.. where was your channel till now.. 🤔 loved your simplified presentation
Thanks Parry! I'm glad if it helped!
Great tutorial, While it depends on what you end goal is I prefer to use he Bool tool to join my objects. While CTL-J does join objects together the bool tool removes the overlapping faces.
Thanks Bryan! Yeah, Ctrl+J does leave the intersecting faces inside its true. I always do a voxel remesh after which cleans it up nicely.
@@RussellMidfield Voxel remesh, I will have to try that wotkflow. Never noticed that effect when using voxel remesh.
Yeah it came on advice from a commenter on one of my other videos where I use the boolean union modifier, they suggested it as an alternative, perhaps easier/quicker method. I found that I liked it, since I use the voxel remesh function heavily when sculpting anyway, so it fit nicely in my workflow!
2 min in and i already wish id found you sooner
Haha thanks Batman! Haha two more minutes and you'll probably start thinking oh no this guy sucks haha but I hope there are a couple of useful tips hiding in there somewhere
I was new to the voxel remesh technique before watching this. I'm interested to know, do you have experience with how this translates in facial animation with the absence of clear edgeloops around the facial features? Is that a trade-off for the relative speed which you are able to block out the character?
Oh yeah I wouldn't think the voxel remesh would be optimal for facial animation, but I haven't tried to be honest. I just use the remesh for the blockout and sculpt only, then I add the control loops in later during the retoplogy stage.
FIRST PART COMPLETELY LETS GO NEXT :)
Haha lol YES! Keep going! And then show me what you make when you are done!
@@RussellMidfield I will do it sensei
@@jaddd haha hai! 😄
I can't seem to find the round cube mesh.. does anyone have it in zip for an add on?
Check at the 0:17 second mark of the video!
@@RussellMidfield I should use search
Haha! I always skip through videos, especially the start haha
Can help blue print image fro stylized character
You can do it man! I know you can! Put the camera in Orthographic view, it will help in making the blueprint image!
But from where you find blue print or how to draw the blueprint
I made the blueprints. I model the shape of the body, then I render the front and side views by switching the camera from perspective to orthographic.
@@RussellMidfield have you taught how to make blue print in your channel
No not yet, but that is a very good idea! I will do one today! Thanks for the idea!
@@RussellMidfield can you give idea from how I can draw base of sculpting model
@@dipendrasingh7502 if you want to draw the base, I would probably use an image editing software like GIMP, it's free!

I am using a laptop and I don't have a mouse. Is there another way to do that?
In the Edit Preferences menu, in the Input section, there is an option for Emulate three button mouse
@@RussellMidfield
K thanks. Gr8 tutorial
Thanks man! Hope it helps you make a sweet character.
@@RussellMidfield
😀
@@RussellMidfield
Yeah about that.....
Just found out that my PC isn't compatible. I try to make a character and it pays in the middle☹️☹️
What computer do you use??
Is missing the image reference link, could you provide that?
Whoops sorry, here it is, thanks for letting me know, I updated the description as well: www.dropbox.com/sh/wxpesiwhnrgyrp0/AAC3Tr2J1dinKwf3GdRS6yMga?dl=0
@@RussellMidfield Don't worry about it, very appreciate your tutorial =) thanks a lot. I'm looking forward to the next chapter!
Thanks! I hope there is a helpful tip somewhere in there for you haha!
@@RussellMidfield
Hey I don't know why, but if I try sculpting a cube or a sphere, it just changes it shape. I am not able to use the actual brushes on it
where can I get these kind of blueprints?
I make these ones and have then on my Dropbox, link should be above. You can find them on Gumroad and Artstation by many artists, an artist I like is George Zaky, he has really good stylized ones. His Gumroad and Artstation have quite a few.
@@RussellMidfield I was searching for reference with blockout but didn't know it's called blockout and then I figured it out and found references. thank youu
Oh haha sorry, yeah lots of good stuff out there!
Bro can you create a video for 3d model for mobile game plz 0_0
Haha yeah for sure man, I'm going to do one pretty soon!
