    garbadge open diff is main cause of snapping rear end on lift off, in my opinion. when u lift and weight transfers, especially in cornering even if slightly, rear is so loose that its dangling around like nothing when there is no interlocked rear two wheels. if there was 1.5 or 2 way LSD in it, it would act like feathers on arrow, it makes rear end planted and stable. that's my assessment of stock e46 behavior when DSC is OFF, it is very dangerous to drive on limits with E46 DSC off, not for rookies. it can snap pretty easily and send u elsewhere. (am 330ci owner, I've done my share of stupidity with it)

      I'm not sure if it's the main issue, but it's true that a proper LSD helps a lot in this situation 👍

      Very true, I own a 325i compact with a stock open diff and no ASC or DSC due to the ABS pump failing a while ago. Just driving at moderate pace and then abruptly lifting off and braking at a decreasing radius turn caused the car to snap, some over correction by me resulted in fish-tailing (tank-slapper) until I stabilised it.

      I don't think a Compact will have a "planted and stable rear end" without use of sorcery. Not on the Ring with high speed cornering and uneven track. It's one of those cases where you better rebuild the entire suspension and modify chassis greatly. Or just get an E46 proper. Otherwise you are always "unstable" compared to your options.

    Great video. I am picking up a 318ti to daily and track. have you changed the diff or gearbox? Do you of a good compact fourm that I can get some questions answered?

    • @quirky_but_quick
      @quirky_but_quick  Před 10 měsíci

      Good choice! I've changed neither diff nor gearbox as it's both already good in the 325ti. But I can't speak for the 318ti about this point to be honest. I don't know a special compact forum but as it is technically like the sedan besides few specialties you can use the E46 knowledge of the internet. Compactnation is the only compact specific community I know yet

    hi mate, i have question for you, the rear suspension of e30 323ti and 325ti are the same? because i use to have a e30 , but i dont like how it bahave , as i see in your video at min 3.38 , know i see a 325ti in my city for sale but if is the same suspension maybe i will look for an e36 or e46 but not compact. thanks

      Luckily the E46 Compact has the same rear axle like all other E46s

    Thanks for the tips buddy. Im getting a 325ti for track use. any advice for the first thing to change as a track car? semi slick tires and brakes is my first plan. Then coilovers and seats. last a cage. My gtr is way too costly to do tracking with it.

    • @quirky_but_quick
      @quirky_but_quick  Před rokem +1

      You're welcome and good choice!
      Nice GTR, but I can fully understand not to risk it.
      I would suggest the following order of changes:
      1. Brakes (Pads and Cooling)
      2. Remove all unecessary interior parts for weight reduction
      3. Bucket seat at least for the driver
      4. Coilovers
      5. Semi slicks (need a stiffer suspension and more negative camber in the front)
      6. Roll cage
      ...

    Fahre auch einen 325ti als Tracktool. Ich habe ihm seine bekannte Tendenz zu losen Heck ausgetrieben. ST XTA Fahrwerk mit 2,5° Sturz auf der HA und Zugstufe auf 8. Dann habe ich NUR VORNE eine Domstrebe verbaut. Auto fährt sich nun deutlich sicherer und das Heck hat sich komplett beruhigt.

      Danke fürs Teilen deines Setups! Kann es sein, dass du den Stabi an der Vorderachse meinst und nicht die Domstrebe?

    • @michaelhesky
      @michaelhesky Před 3 lety +1

      @@quirky_but_quick Natürlich, ganz vergessen und hab natürlich beides. Einen dickeren Stabi von Eibach habe ich vorne auch verbaut. Also beides, Domstrebe + Stabi. Ein Setup nach dem Motto: Harte Birne, weicher Hintern.

      @@michaelhesky Stabi von eibach für den Compact? Der wird leider nicht mehr hergestellt oder wo hast du deinen her?

      @michaelhesky Před 3 lety

      @@dent_drifter Der Stabi für die VA ist der selbe wie bei der Limousine und kann per Einzelabnahme eingetragen werden. Nur der Stabi für die HA ist ein eigener da der Compact eine andere Hinterachskonstruktion hat.

      @@michaelhesky Achso cool, wusste ich gar nicht. Was brauch man denn für die Einzelabnahme nur das Gutachten von der Limo? Den hinteren Stabi hast du Serie, richtig?

    Das DSC war deaktiviert? Wäre interessant zu wissen, ob es den Dreher vermieden hätte.

    • @quirky_but_quick
      @quirky_but_quick  Před 3 lety

      Das DSC war komplett aus, da es sonst viel zu stark regelt und damit eher kontraproduktiv ist. Ich denke wenn es an gewesen wär, hätte es den Dreher unterbunden, da es schon sehr früh angefangen hätte dagegen zu halten. Dafür wäre meine Bremse im Brünnchen schon platt gewesen. ;-) Mit 100 %iger Sicherheit kann ich es aber auch nicht sagen, vielleicht wäre es mit der Situation überfordert gewesen.

    Very good and Informative Video! If only the compact wouldn’t have this ugly Face :( I have a e46 Clubsport Coupé but would consider a Compact as Fun car aswell!
